This video is WAY better than the "official" orbit tutorial. Well done and THANK YOU so much. Hope your channel is pushed by the algorithm more because it is well deserved.
Oh my goodness!! This is exactly what I needed! Thank you! We just bought our first home a few months ago and our neighbor showed us how to even turn on the sprinkler system a couple week's ago. His late mother had owned the house and was the only one who used to program the sprinkler, so he had no idea and we've just let it run on whatever she'd had set. I realized tonight that it literally cycles through all the zones the entire night!!! I don't have a key to open it yet, but I'm so excited to finally have some control over this! Thanks again! I have no experience with in ground sprinklers! I didn't even know they existed until I moved out west since growing up in Indiana we hardly ever needed to water thanks to the rain and humidity! Now I'm just nervous about prepping the system for the harsh Idaho winter in a couple months! 😅
This was one of the most informative and clearly stated videos I have ever viewed. I can now program my Orbit system. The gardner had no idea of how to set it up.
Very comprehensive. Lost power and decided to try to reset myself vs waiting and asking the gardener. Wasn’t sure how many zones I had so really helpful seeing the open panel and how to set the zones. I tested this out running the manual mode. This is also the only vid I watched that discussed the budget setting. Thanks a bunch
Thanks Isabel, I appreciate your kind comment. We have a lot of other content on our Channel too so, be sure to Subscribe, if you get a minute. Thx again 👍
I was kind of confused in all this when I had to take over running the household after my husband passed didn't know how to do the timer but watching this makes it so much easier I thank you so much

@@garyssprinklerrepair Awesome video Gary! Can you help me out? I just want to be clear about multiple times and how they react with each Zone or rather each station. So when I go to "Start Time", "Program A", and I set it for 6:30 a.m. and I hit "Enter" and then I go to "Run Time" and set "Station 1" for 5 minutes, will all of the stations run in sequence at 5 minutes, or will only "Station 1" run for 5 minutes until I add minutes to Stations 1,2,3 and 4 in "Run Time"? Also, how do I tell the sprinkler that I also want it to water at 7 p.m. all stations for 5 minutes? I truly appreciate your time and the elementary way that you break down the operation or the setup!
Answer to your 1st question if you only set zone 1 for 5 min and no others only 1 will run. Answer to 2nd question, in start time hit the right arrow to move to #2 start I will say “off” until you set a 2nd start time of 7 pm and hit enter. Hope that helped, places be sure to subscribe to our Channel it really helps and bookmarks us for your future needs.✌️
Your video sold me on getting one of these. I've had 2 six zone Hunter controllers, but I had to add another zone so I got a single battery Orbit. So easy to set. Thanks for a nicely done and informative video. I live in Redding so I'm going to build a shade box for the controller rather than having it in the garage on the opposite side of the house.
how can I just turn on one particular station to see if it's the one that needs repair? I thought hitting manual would do that but it doesnt. Thank you.
Hit manual then the right arrow around the center dial until your desired zone appears put in the time you want for it to run using the plus button and hit enter. It will run just that zone for that amount of time and shut off and be ready to go for normal operation. Please help us hit 5K in Subscribers, by Subscribing to our Channel 😉
This was the best explanation. Thank you. I have 6 zones but only 4 show up on the screen. How can I add the other two. Also, is their a tutorial on how to adjust the sprinkler heads. Mine seem to water the sidewalk more than the grass
Sue hi, turn the center dial to run times and then use the right side arrow to go to #5 then put time on that zone using the + button, then hit enter. Repeat for zone 6. When finished return the dial to run
Thank you so much for this video! I had reprogrammed my orbit and didn’t realize that I had not set the timing for Station 2! This video was very helpful in figuring that out… thanks to you I saved some $ and my plants 🙏
Absolutely awesome video Gary! Thank you very much Can you help me understand something? Let's say that I want Station 1 to run at 6:30 a.m. for 5 minutes and then I want Station 1 to run again at 7:30 p.m. for 5 minutes , how do I set the 7:30 p.m. time? Also what tells Station 2, 3 and 4 that I want them to run at a certain time? Don't get me wrong I do understand about setting the run time for each station what I don't understand is how to set the multiple times and how to direct that to each station! I truly do appreciate the way that you laid out in the video the general set up, thank you!
Ok, put station #1 in the A program with a run time of 5 min... @6:30 am and then set second start time for 7:30pm, not set water days. All other stations 2,3,4 will move to B program (Not station#1) Set them to start @ 6:40 am only For let’s say 10 min each. Chose water days for them...done
Sir! Thanks you for the expertise & advice BUT I lost a sprinkler head & wanted to zero min the time for that station BUT it only goes down to 1 min. How to pause, indefinitely, 1 station but have the rest run as scheduled? Also can this be scheduled to run daily every 2-3-4 or 10 hrs for lets say 10 mins at a time? Thanks again for the great tutorial! *If anyone knows please reply...
Turn the dial to run time, use the right arrow to move to that zone you want no water time on. Then hit the button that says “clear” done rerun the dial to Auto/ run position. Don’t forget to Subscribe, it really helps the channel grow.✌️
Turn the dial to start time and hit the program button to change to B program. Set a start time, turn dial to run time and set the 4 zones you want there and skip the ones you don’t want, turn the dial to water days set the days you want them to water. Hope that helped answer your question, if it did feel free to Subscribe to our Channel to support us on RU-vid for free! Take Care, and stay safe! 👍

@@garyssprinklerrepair Does it matter if you turn the dial counter clockwise versus clockwise when setting? Someone else was saying counter counter when turning the dial but I did not think it would make a difference? In any case I will turn counter clockwise. Thanks!

But I set my clock at 7AM, two hours later, it still reads----7AM. Can't sort it? Made sue it had power, and battery, nothing. I can set the clock at any time I want, but it stays at that setting now and forever it seems.
Just making sure you’re setting the clock not Start times, correct? If you’re doing it right, the only thing left is to try hitting the reset. If that doesn’t work try unplugging the timer, removing the battery (upper right side) and letting it sit for 5 min. Then reinstall the battery (display should come back up, if it doesn’t battery is bad). Now plug power cord in, if you can’t set time of day still, bad timer. Hope all that helps, if you found it helpful Subscribe to our Channel, as it helps us as well.✌️
@@garyssprinklerrepair thanks Gary, this leads to yet another weird problem. Taking out the battery--completely OUT and put aise, and unplugging, the clock display still shows the time--7AM. So I change the time to the current time, 2:20PM and an hour later? Still 2:20PM. I'll try the re-start and, thanks again. (Don't know how it displays anything without battery or plug in)
Thanks for the video. If you don't want a station to water at all, what do you do? It looks like the timer stops at 1 minute and won't go to 0. Do you have to remove the wire?
Lynn hello, turn the dial to run time chose the zone you want to delete by using the arrows to the side of the dial. Once you’re there, hit the (clear button) Your done ✅ be sure to Subscribe to our Channel for more new videos and a list of others we already have✌️
I think I have an unusual problem. I followed the advice in this video for setting up my controller. I have the orbit model just like this one in the video. Mine is a 6 station. My problem. As each zone comes on, the previous zone stays on. By the time I get to zone 6 all the zones are on. Needless to say this is frustrating. I even went so far as to push the reset button and reset everything to zero.I have each zone set for a couple of minutes so I can see if I have any leaks or bad heads. I haven't used the system in quite a while. I did replace all 6 valves and the wiring between the valves and the controller. Any ideas?? Thanks, Bob
Yes, make sure each valve is wired to a separate color. I have a video on how to wire a set of valves you should watch it. If that doesn’t work you might need to ohm the wires. I would check the valve wiring first then go with a new timer. Hunter makes a much easier, reliable timer. I have a video on that timer as well. Let me know how it turns out.
How can I choose one section to be watered only?Another question is if I can add stations coz due to loss of power the program set by gardener vanished and now out of 9 stations only 5 is set and rest 4 no watering. How can I add station to program?I love your channel, hope more irrigation tricks we will learn from you.Thank you in advance

If we want to water everyday do you have to check everyday of the week? Which we have done. I went to change to the time and it now shows INT with the days unmarked. Thank you
Great video, Gary. Very good explanation and to the point. Just to the movement of the camera was little distracting, otherwise a great video. Thank you.

When you programmed the three stations at fifteen minutes each are they all running at the same time? Or will each one run separately for a total of 45 minutes, one after the other? The reason why I ask is because I can't run more than one station at a time or I'll loose too much water pressure. If this makes it easiest to answer, can I run station 1 for three minutes on program A starting at 8am and then run my second station on program B for ten minutes starting at 8:05am? I'm trying to figure out a way to have each station run separately to use the full pressure of my water source. Hope to get an answer as I'm leaving for vacation and want my newly planted trees alive when I get back. ;-)
Go to start time, it will show the first water start on the display then push the right arrow in the center right of the timer…..it should say OFF, enter a time then hit enter. Now you have two start times. Let me know if you have any other questions.
This was an excellent video--thank you! I have a question that I cannot seem to find an answer for. One of my stations needs repair, but I'd like to keep watering my other stations. When I try to set that station to 0 minutes it skips down from 1 to the largest number of minutes. What can I do?
Hit the clear button for that zone. Hope that helped. Let me know if you need more help. Don’t forget to Subscribe to our Channel. It really helps us too.✌️
Recently had a power outage in my area. Which reset everything. Going through the process prior to seeing your video, i got the entire unit set up to automatically turn on 5am and 7pm. Switching the dial back to auto once completed. But the unit won't start watering at those times. I have to manually turn them on as it only works this way. thoughts?
Double check the timer outlet has power. The display and operation will still appear as normal and even show it’s manually watering when activated but is only running on battery power. Not enough power to run the actual valves. Hope that helps, for great info Subscribe to our Channel. 👍
Put the dial into Auto position, hit the manual button, then enter. It will run the A program fist then the B program, it will then shut off and be ready to go for the next scheduled start. Hope this helped sorry so late, don't forget to subscribe to our channel and tap notifications. That will bookmark our channel to favorites.
What are the wiring connections marked "Pump" and "24VAC" used for? Can one of them be used to activate an anti-siphon control valve that supplies the irrigation manifold valves?
Tom DaDude pump is if you’re using a pond for irrigation water and the timer needs to turn the pump on down at the pond to provide water to the valves before tuning them on. 24V a/c is the transformer connection (power) from the house for just the timer.
Sorry about that, with the timer in auto position two rain delay, next use the plus or minus button to chose 24/48/72 delay (pause for a minute) the timer will add the delay, once it begins to again show the time of day on the screen you’re done. To remove stain delay hit the clear button once. Hope that helped, don’t forget to Subscribe to our Channel if you get some time.👍
Go to start time with the dial, it will show your 1st start time. To add a second start tap the right arrow (center right of the dial) add your second start where it says off and then tap enter return dial to run position. If that helps be sure to Subscribe to our Channel it helps us too.👍
Excellent instruction video. One question, if Zone A has been assigned a start time do I need to set the other zones start times or will the timer automatically sequence through all the zones based on Zone A’s start time?
S Montague, be sure to Subscribe and tap notifications so you’ll see when I respond to any questions or add new video content including Giveaways. Program A Needs only 1 start time to sequentially run each zone given a run time in that program Ex: starts at 8am and runs zones 1 for 6 min it will automatically move to zone 2 next for 10 min then 3 and so on. If you wish to water them all later that day again set a second start time for let’s say, 8:30 pm and they will all start over.
@@garyssprinklerrepair I think you basically answered my question here. Cuz I thought they ALL RSN ST THE SAME TIME once the time hits but no...it first starts with station 1 and the 2 etc ..
You're video is great. The only thing that you didn't explain was how to program the station on the PROGRAM setting. Everyone says if you have a garden or if you have a special pot you want to water certain day but how does it know which station?
J M the most used program is the default “A” program. You can put the zones you want in n there ex: 1&2 front lawn. Water everyday except “Wed” when the Gardner comes. Next set “B” program to come on later that morning after “A” finishes and water 3&4 front and back shrubs everyday. Hope that helps, if it does feel free to Subscribe to our Channel as we have over 60 different sprinkler videos. ✌️
Check out Krain.com. Click on index valves, then click on 4000 series. This isn’t something we use here in Northern California residential irrigation. Hope the info there helps, looks like there are two methods one is a manual and the second method is likely the one you’ll want. I inherited this timer and wanted to view the current programming, however, when I go to look I cant see any times as it looks like it has not been programmed. Isnt there a way to view the current programming?
I have the same timer with four staions programed the same as in video but after the first complete cycle it starts a second cycle a third and a fourth. I only set up program A, 15 min each staion starting at 7am. It runs still at 10 am and I have to manualy shut it off. I havent figured it out. Was good last year. Ill try a reset next.
Go to start times with the dial....it shows 1-A and time hit next button if it then shows 2-A and a time you have multiple start times. If it shows nothing use the Program button and move start times to B program etc. if there are times there use clear button to remove them. Keep me posted if you need more help.
Morning Gary. I have 1A now set for 7 am 15 min on each of 4 stations. No start times for 2a 3a or 4a. Set for even watering days, so we shall see tomorrow. Thanks man, have a great day.
Hello there, I love the way you explain everything, makes it so easy but still need your help if you don't mind...I have an Orbit system most like the same you explain but a little different, and I have issues setting the days when to run the system. Please help me🙏 Thank you
Thank you, that was well done. Still have a question about the different programs and how to set those. For example we have the lawn and drip for shrubs running on A. We have station 8 which will run in our veggie garden. Can we set program A and program C to run at the same time or will they need to be different? Thanks
You could put lawns in A- prog. Leave Wed off when the Gardner mows. B-programs for the plants -everyday C- Program for the garden #8 3 days per week Set start times for ea. Prog run times for the zones you want in there. (Leave the other zones out) Set the days for ea. Program done. Don’t forget to Subscribe to our Channel 👍
Make sure Tuesday has no box around the day. It’s possible you forgot to hit enter when you selected it to a day off. Also check the B program to insure there are no duplicate start times there with the days “Tuesday” set as a water day
That would be used for watering valves on different day of the week and or at different times. Ex: A Prog. Zones 1,2,3 lawn everyday @7am except Thursdays when the Gardner mows. B Prog. Zone 4 waters everyday the veggie garden @8am 3 days a week. C Prog. Zone 5 waters every other day @9 am the shrubs. Now if all the zones on your property have the same needs you can just use the A program for simplicity. Hope that clears things up for ya. Don’t to Subscribe to our Channel 👍
I have this same unit but I have to manually set mine on run time to know what I set it on. It doesn’t flash between the current time and the run time.
1st set a start time for the program next go to run times set each one and hit enter. (If you have 4 zones, you will need to repeat this part 4 times) Set the desired water days out the timer in run. Done….if that doesn’t work you have a wiring issue.
This timer doesn’t have that, you can lower the run times per zone to 2-3 minutes and hit manual chose “all” AB then enter and it will run all zones for 2-3 minutes. When finished change your run times back to their normal times. ✅
Hit the manual button then enter, It will start the A program. If you want B program hit manual then next, then enter. Hope that answered your question. We have lots more videos on my channel. Hope you took a minute to Subscribe.✌️
Ronald Polanco hi, no unfortunately it can not. If you choose interval the you cb pick it to water every second day or every third day etc. Even on the older models the “2nd” was referring to this for 28 days. This model is custom choose days M-Sun or odd or even or nit referring to the above explanation. I have the same timer but unplugged it by mistake. I have reset it but have missed something. I have three zones and only use them manually. When I enter the manual mode it runs through each zone with the correct times but after it finishes with zone three it goes back and runs through them again. Can you tell me what I have done wrong here? Thank you, Nick
Extra programs, for example: use A program to water grass everyday except tues when they mow. Put plants in B and water everyday even when they mow. Put veg garden in C and water only 3 days. Different programs for different needs. Please subscribe to our channel if you found this helpful👍
1st way: Press the manual button, press enter, it will now run the stations in that program on at a time. 2nd way: Press the manual button, then the right arrow until A,B,C go past now it will show zone1, use the plus button to chose water time(ex: 2min) Press enter. Repeat for other zones. Hope that helps, if it does be sure to Subscribe to our Channel it helps us too.✌️
Go to start times and hit the right arrow then use the minus button to put your evening time in and hit enter. Hope that helped, don’t forget to Subscribe 👍
My Orbit was installed not quite one year ago. Why does it look so different with different buttons? My Orbit started going crazy with no one having touched it. It wouldn't shut off and kept watering and watering. I pulled the plug on it. Now it won't do anything.
Henry Quenin they change how they look all the time. Ch k my other videos and see if your model is there. If you unplugged the timer and the water shut off then the timer was the problem. If you turn it off or unplug and the water continues it’s a bad valve. Sometimes lightning messes up timers.
THANK YOU Gary. Orbit Easy Dial is super easy/intuitive for set-up, programming, electrical, etc. however, what step are we missing? The (water) hose bib is on, program is set, but the water doesn't shut off. We're anticipating it's a sequencing aspect. Do you have a video that addresses this basic consideration? Or, can you tell us what we're missing?
Janet Pearson, if the timer turned the valve on and it now won’t shut off. Try turning the timer to off. If the valve still continues to run, it’s just a bad valve. If it shuts off when the timer gets turned off then, you might have a start time in another program check to make sure the run time for that zone isn’t 4 hrs. Instead of 4 min
I have a Zone Indexing Valve that works on "ON/OFF". There are no wires. Is there anything I need to do? I also have a Pump Start Relay...can you advise?
Maria hi, take a step back for a moment. Sounds like you’re saying you have a sprinkler valve.....no wires on top? If you have a pump start relay, it’s because you have to turn the pump on before the valve.....correct? What are you wanting to do ? Automate?
If you shut the timer off and the valve continues to still run. Then you have a bad valve. ....not timer. Let me know if you have more questions, Subscribe to our Channel to help us grow😉

How come you didn't show the wiring to the solenoids I believe each solenoid comes with 2 wires so if you have 4 zones..you should have 2 wires for each zones.right ..
ggg's fan that is correct, each valve has two wires. One wire from each valve goes to the common. (Usually a white wire) The other wire goes to a station wire(usually different colors) I have a video on my channel “How to wire a set of valves) check it out. Thank you for this! I have an issue with a station. I have 5 stations set up, and I have station 5 set on Program B to go for 6 minutes every other day (INT). However when I go to the Start Time, I can't get station 5 to show up at all (it just cycles through 1-4). Do you know how to add a station to the Start Time so that it actually goes off? This is the case on Program A as well.
You need to go to run times and add it there just don’t add 5 in A program. Set 1 start time in B program to begin when the A finished. Don’t confuse Start times with Run times that’s the problem.
I have the same Orbit model. My question is when you set up all stations (I have 3 for my whole yard) and you set up one time frame, does it start with 1 station and finish then the other station starts and so forth with the 3rd one? Or does it hit the time frame and ALL 3 stations start at the same time? Cuz when it is programmed to a set time, it only starts on one station and it finishes that station and starts the 2nd station. They don't all start at the same time.
@@davidandangelajohnson4690 when you turn the dial to start times it will show A-B or C on the screen a long with any set start time. If it says A-5:00am and your good with that then, turn the dial to run times (valves) set the desired run time then enter, then next now put the run time for the second zone and repeat for others, hitting enter each time before advancing to the next zone.(valve) Lastly turn the dial to water days set the desired days, using enter and next when done return dial to auto run. Just purchased 4 zone timer.... I set 1 zone for 7 am and it comes on @ 7 pm also. I have 3 active zones that I want to run different times on different days....#1 7 am Tuesday 40 min, #2 7 am Wednesday 30 min, #3 7 am 7 days 45 min. Maybe not possible these settings with this timer? Everything on 'A' wants to come on @ same days. Hope you can understand my explanation.
Use the different programs....that’s what they’re for. For the everyday zones use A program...then use B program and set a different start time since A comes on everyday. Set B program to start after A use C program and set a different start time after A and B so then set what days and times you want that zone to run.... it will work ya just have to start with A and slowly move to B and C separating days, starts, and run times..Hope you found this helpful, if so help us out by Subscribing to our Channel 🤙
As far as zone 1 starting at 7 pm go to start time and make sure it says 7 am if it says 7 pm just scroll to 7 am using the buttons and remember to hit enter when done or it won’t stay.
Not really understanding fully your question. I’ll take a guess at what I think you’re asking. Just turn the dial to “off” now nothing will water so, you can water by hand. When you’re ready for automatic operation again simply return the dial to Auto.
Turn the dial to start time…use the right arrow button to go to second time….it will say off (midnight) until you use the plus or minus button to set second start time…hit enter…return dial to Auto/ Run position…done.
