Okay... Here's my 2nd attempt at getting a line over that pesky broken branch using a bow and arrow. I made some changes and improvements to the system, but was I successful? Watch and see!
I could see this being useful if I had tall trees to fell and wanted to just sail the cord over the entire tee, base tie and pull hard untill it cought in the canopy. Thanks for sharing Sir
Getting those widow makers can be a challenge at times. I never tried with a bow. I deal with them a lot. Sometimes just throwing works, other times I use an extendable pole hook, big shot or air cannon. On occasion either have to cut the tree or just leave it there but mark the tree.
I really want to get the big shot and try it. I hate leaving them up there. They always want to come down when you least expect it. The pole idea seems like a really good one too! 👍
Yeah, the Big Shot seems like the easiest solution. However, if you're hiking a ways and want to minimize weight, the bow is probably the lightest. (unless you just carry the sling-shot elastic band without the pole, and find a small log on-site to use as an improvised Big Shot pole)
Use 40 lb. test fishing line and hook to back of arrow. idrill back and place small wire on back to tie to. pull throw line up with fishing line after you get fish line over branch. I have done it for years.
That's what I was thinking. The line has to connect to the arrow anywhere behind the arrow's center of mass. (Google "rocket stability" - from a theory standpoint, the center-of-pressure must be behind the center-of-mass; here the throw line counts as pressure)
Sam, with a “Fishing” bow, it will work great. You are nose heavy with the set up you were using. But, glad to see you got it to work with the throw bag. 👍👏😁🇺🇸 Rick PS: a “Potato Gun” works great also.
Awesome you did it!!!😁👍 I thought the arrow would work too. That is one huge tree. If it is at the end of its life you will get a lot of firewood out of it. Thanks for the video 🚜💨🍳
