Kyle has a good point this Silveraldo EV is setting the bench mark for a working pick up truck that towing is a requirement. Just goes to show that buying a bigger battery is the way to go for road tripping with a trailer. Great review.

Good point but many off us look at regen more for saving brakes, the power recovery is a bonus though miniscule.

Greetings from Germany! The Silverado is an extremely impressive car. Beyond its capabilities, it also proves that the argument that you can't install a large battery because it's so expensive is no longer tenable.

Yes, Super Cruise does work while towing, it's the only L2 system that currently has support for use with a trailer although it disables auto lane change with a trailer

@@4literv6 The top-spec Sierra EV shouldn't be more than the First Edition Silverado EV RST (around $106,000), and it's likely to be on par with or cheaper than the Cybertruck and R1T's pricing even with the Sierra having a larger battery.

They put out the EV1 like 20 years ago. The Chevy Volt was an amazing car in the 2000-sies. GM has a lot of experience with EV's.

@@mcunha81 Tesla doesn't do it because almost no one needs 750 miles on a single charge. Imagine carrying all that weight daily, only to use the battery pack's fully capacity once or twice a year.

The fact that the gross vehicle weight rating is 9990 lb tells me the truck is perfectly capable of a larger payload. It is just the need to keep the numbers below 10k to not push it up a weight category that limits payload.

@futuristic_car_channel So many watching these do not understand gross vehicle weight rating. Chevy could probably call this a 2500 and let the number exceed 10k lb with no changes and get a higher payload. The Cybertruck, on the other hand, is obviously skirting the limits with the ratings Tesla gave. I would not trust the brakes of the Cybertruck towing 10-12k lb in the mountains.

@@TroySavary Silverado EV is already in the same class as the 2500. It's class 2b, GCWR between 8501 lbs-10k lbs. Same for Cybertruck. I don't disagree on the brakes, Tesla brakes in general always seem to be on the weak side.

IMO this points to a software issue. If there was any problem under no tow loads, towing would exacerbate that tremendously. So hopefully it's a quick fix.

Nice review. I have reservation for the 2025 Silverado and I’m hoping the prices and everything is reasonable. Here in Canada gas prices are a lot more than in the US and I’m looking for something to tow my 24ft camper RV around. About 7000 pounds loaded. I think GM has nailed it

The Cybertruck might have a bigger tow number according to Tesla, but as your test showed, it did not actually handle that weight well, with the brakes getting hot on descent because the regen could not keep speed under control.

@@rcpmac Leads me to conclude that Tesla didn't arrive at their towing and payload numbers by testing, but by looking at Rivian and Ford numbers, and saying "make them bigger".

I like this Chevrolet Silverado EV design. It shows a slightly different shape vs an ICE Chevrolet or GM truck but tastefully done. It doesn't want just to show off like Tesla Cybertruck and doesn't want to be entirely discreet about being an EV like Ford F150 Lightning.

You guys should get the data from your chase vehicle as an empty rustic ring data point. It doesn’t need to be an in depth video all on its own but it would be nice to compare an empty cyber truck to a trailer/loaded cyber truck on the rustic ring or a model 3 or an empty model Y etc etc.

Love the nerdy details Kyle includes in these videos. If you want to shorten the length of time it takes to watch the video then watch in 2X speed like I do on all RU-vid videos. Then you get all the details in 30 minutes. The Silverado is prooving to be a beast in the towing tests for an EV. Still hard to justify the cost and limitation when a high end diesel truck is just under $100k and basically cost the same or less to operate when towing away from at home (cheap charging).

Just a heads up. You don't have to pull over to type if you have a passenger. Either swipe down from the top of the screen or click the bell with the red icon on the upper left and select "deactivate lockout". It only works if it detects a passenger and their seatbelt is buckled but it allows you to type while moving.

Great video and good job to all those GM engineers for making an EV truck that can be used the way I like to use my gas powered truck. Can you add a rating system to this test? It would be great to see how the trucks stack up at the end of the video, similar to TFL or Doug DeMuro. Otherwise, please keep up the great work, as these are fun and informative videos to watch.

Great video, impressive towing experience with the Silverado EV. FYI, Supercruise is designed to be used while towing. However, Auto Lane change is disabled when towing.

24:06 It likely treats map inputs the same as key inputs when driving (i.e., they are disabled). Voice commands should still work, but it might be difficult to communicate to the system exactly where you want it to add a waypoint. I've never tested actual coordinates, but it might accept those over voice command.

Generally larger battery = more amp and thermal capability. I am not surprised at all it soaked 100% of the regen.

Another great highly informative video. The different strategies of the manufactures is what so little of the media gets into. EVs changed the game in vehicle performance testing, and the traditional 0-60 is of little worth if a vehicle cannot go around a corner. Max towing weight is similarly worthless as compared to towing dynamics, and would love to see industry benchmarks address this. OOS is doing the best job! How does the industry instrument it.

To answer the question about SuperCruise, yes you can use it when towing and it can even change lanes for you while ensuring trailer clearance. That’s something that will scare me to try for the first time! 😬

Will be interesting to see how that PHEV Ramcharger will do when you get your hands on one. A run at "empty" (20%) battery to see how the range extender does with minimum battery, and full battery to see how the friction brake transition handles from regen when it can't store energy anymore.

@@Paul-cj1wb many contributing factors to their bankruptcy and the EV1 was over a decade prior to that. Oil prices fluctuate and can influence things but that’s a separate factor in itself.

@@ALMX5DP The crushing of the EV1 and selling the technology to Chevron was less than 5 years prior to bankruptcy, not 10. They canceled it in late 2003 and crushed them in 2004. They went through bankruptcy in late 2008/early 2009.

Pretty epic and would love to see the CT get better thermals (but probably hard to do without a bigger battery). Having said that, curious to see how a dual motor Cybertruck does since it’ll probably be more common and horsepower wise more in line with the 4 WT.

At $0.48 a kilowatt hour going 200 miles VS a gas 1/2 ton getting 10 mpg at 3.25 a gallon. The EV truck is 33% more expensive. $100 VS $75 for the 200 miles.

Does it have some kind of noisemaker to simulate engine sounds? There seemed to be a lot more noise when you put your foot down in this one. 26:29 for an example. The brake lights in the bolt turn off when you're stopped if you're just using the OPD. Did they fix that along with decreasing the brake light turn on trigger? .4mi/kWh is still like 14mpge right? That's better than some big trucks get when empty.

Can you do this with the Hummer EV pickup 3X 381 range (24 module) with 22s. It has more power and torque, better home charging, leveling suspension.

Are you also capturing the outside temp as at night I'm sure it is much more colder. This was probably even more stressful for the Siverado EV than your Cybertruck RR test.
