In this video, I am going to show you how you can set up a home photography studio on a budget. I will share everything I know that will get you up and running with your photography studio so that you can do your own personal work and paid photography work.
There are some things that all photography studios need. In this video I am going to share with you all the equipment that you should have as part of your studio. I am also going to show you all the things that you don’t need.
Sometimes we think we need lots of gear to get started with a photography business, but the reality is that you can get started with not much gear at all.
In this video I will show you the truth behind what you need because I am a professional photographer who works out of a home studio, and I can tell you exactly what you need to get started. Below are the affiliate links to all the gear that that I mention in this video.

Hi, I am still trying to do this photography thing part-time, but a comment about your flash segment. You mentioned that you would rather have the "dumb" transceivers that just deliver a signal to fire the flash. You had also mentioned the learning curve with the remote settings on the transmitter. In my experience, I started doing some small portrait work for my daughter's school during a Fall Festival event. When I first started, I had the "dumb" transceivers connected to my flashes as the top of the light stand with modifier. The problem I ran into was that these particular flashes would go to sleep after about 10 minutes of inactivity, so I would have to lower the light stand, re-activate the flash, and then try the picture again. The other thing is that when setting up, if I needed to adjust the settings, I would have to do the same thing; lower the light stand, adjust and then raise it back again. It is for these reasons that I love the remote settings triggers. I currently use the Godox system (TT600 flash with the Xt2-c trigger). Just my $0.02.

Hi Jonathan. You are spot on! The dumb receivers I was talking about are perfect if you are shooting in a studio environment where the settings don't change. Basically... if you are doing volume work. If you need to change the settings on the lights, then your solution is much better. My setup for the last few years has been Elinchrom stones with the smart triggers that allows you to dial the lights up and down and control them individually. Bought my first Godox light about a year ago and super impressed with it.

I just bought a 5D Mkii! Like new condition, it takes amazing pictures. I specifically sought this model out. I had the budget for an R5, but felt the 5D2 was a better choice for me. I shoot portraits and landscapes.

You didn’t seem to link the c-stand you’re using. I was also noticed that it tilts a little towards the end. Isn’t that going to appear in the photos or video? How do you prevent that from happening?
@DanCantero
@DanCantero 6 месяцев назад
Oh! Thanks for letting me know. The C-stand here is this one amzn.to/3W2Atdd Also, you don't need to have it perfectly straight. All you need to worry about is that you can see the background around the persons face. You need to retouch and fix the back ground during the edit anyway so it doesn't matter. I show you how to do it in this video if you want to check it out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zWrJxDfKjEo.html

Thank you so much for your video! Which type of light (flash or continuous) would you recommend to take photos of a model for my clothing store at home? I don't know anything about photography, so your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!
@DanCantero
@DanCantero Год назад
Honestly, you could use both but.... it depends on where and how you are going to be using it. If you can answer these questions I can guide you a little better. 1. How big is the room you are going to be shooting in? 2. How bright is the room you are going to be shooting in? 3. Will the model be moving around or still when shooting? 4. What camera are you using?
@dvasfer
@dvasfer Год назад
Thank you so much for trying to help me! I am extremely grateful to you! 1. The room I am planning to take the photos in is approximately 16 feet (that would be the distance between the backdrop and the camera). 2. It doesn’t receive much natural light. There are large windows, but the shades are permanently closed. There is only one window without shades. 3. The model will be still. 4. Sony a6400 mirrorless camera. I will use a white paper backdrop, and I would like it to appear as white as possible in the photos. I watched a video, and it showed that I should point at least one light directly to the backdrop so that it looks white. Which light would be best for this? Thank you so much! @@DanCantero
@DanCantero
@DanCantero Год назад
Ok, this is what I would do. I would go with flash. It'll take a little playing around to get it to the point you like it but once you have it set, just note down the settings and you can recreate it really quickly. In my opinion, if you want to get the background as white as possible I would have 2 lights at either side pointing at the background. You need to lights because of light fall off. If you only use one light, you will have one side brighter than the other. Cheap ones will work fine as long as they are at least 400wats. I would check out any flash from godox or newwer. Will work fine. Something like this amzn.to/3rZNPuc. I would just use the standard reflectors that come with the lights. I would also get a third light light (the same model) for the actual talent but for this light I would get a diffuser of some kind like an octabox like this one amzn.to/3QrgQIw which is 120cm. You want a large diffuser so that you can light the whole body. Honestly, I don' think you need anything else. This 3 light setup should see you for most scenarios. Let me know how you go and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Cheers. Dan

Hi, not sure if i missed it - the multi backdrop holder - where would I get it? Thank you so much.
@DanCantero
@DanCantero Год назад
Hi Daniel. I should update the description with the correct links. So basically, you have a couple of options. The first one and the preferred one is to have the mounts permanently mounted to the wall. For this option, this is the version I refer to. amzn.to/3CJsE1b If on the other hand you are like me and don't want to drill holes in your wall, you can have the option that I use which uses a couple of light stands to hold it up. amzn.to/43TcCO5 The light stand version works well but obviously isn't as strong as the permanent option but if you work out of a home studio and don't want to drill holes in the wall, it works a treat. Hope that helps.

Smaller pupils do show more color. Larger pupils appear more friendly. Your pupils react to more than just light. When a person sees somebody that they like, their pupils will enlarge. The rest of us are subconsciously aware of this phenomenon. So when a person’s pupils enlarge, they seem more friendly.
