Dude, you are the MAN! This is incredibly informative and it sounds pretty organic for having to go through so much processing. I played through a buddy's computer set up a long time ago, but I remember there being quite a bit of latency, to the point that I'd get completely confused while attempting to record or loop anything. With newer technology and a way better computer, I think it would be more comparable to thousands of dollars in unique set-ups. Thanks!

cpu processes the all the information from the external or internal sound card especially in a daw, so it does matter. maybe you had a decent cpu back then or your settings were on cheapo mode. meaning low quality hz and bits and buffering. you can make your sound quality playable but low quality and get lower latency.

I needed to know one more thing Steve how do you go about connecting the focusrite to a mixer? I also need to know if I use a condenser mic would put that through the mixer or the focusrite. At the moment I have the M-Audio Delta PCI interface sound card it does work but I can't use my condenser mic when playing guitar at all because my audio signal seems to be the same for both mic and guitar. I tried to change it but it when I do I can't hear anything because it needs the selected default input and output. The reason this is happening is because I am using a standard stereo receiver which connects from the receiver to the sound card interface. I have to do the same for the mixer the the DI-box is connected to the mixer so is the mic I thought I could route the signal but it looks like I can't. The sound from TH3 seems to affect and distort the mic very badly so it looks like I will have to go with the powered speakers to solve this. I can't find a way to to make this work when using a mic. without the mic it works pretty well but I need both do you think I will need the focusrite as well as the speakers ?

Just one question, if you have the time: if I plug the guitar through the PC and I also want to run a backing track (on my PC) along with the guitar, do I just play both of them at the same time and get the results? Or is there anything else ot it? (I'm green as grass in this kind of matter). Again, thank you kindly for the help!
@SFBGuitar
@SFBGuitar 8 лет назад
That can be tricky. It depends on whether the software places an exclusive claim to the audio hardware (it seems most do). That's why getting amp sim software that can load an audio track for playback is a serious consideration. But that's only if loaded in "stand alone" mode. If you use something like Reaper as the VST host, then it's a non-issue because you can just import the audio into Reaper on another track.
@cristianmihai4182
@cristianmihai4182 8 лет назад
Thanks a lot for replying! Does paid software have the same problem? I wouldn't mind paying a few bucks for an amp sim that would let me do that. If that wouldn't work, what exactly is Reaper?
@SFBGuitar
@SFBGuitar 8 лет назад
It seems like they all do. It's very hit or miss. The amp sim wants to control the hardware exclusively to get the best performance. Reaper is a Digital Audio Workstation. Just look up "Reaper DAW" on Google and you'll get all the info. It's free for 60 days, but then you have to pay. It's not expensive, though, it's like under $100.

If i want to play along to a track or youtube i select the focusrite as my default windows playback device and then the computer and guitar comes through the headphones. Do you have active pickups? If I'm not mistaken, active pickups put out a line level signal, so you'd just need to flip the switch from instrument to line and it'd be fine. That's how it works on my 2i2, anyway.

who the fuck gave this video the 72 thumbs down ? this is a great video. It explains things in total newbie form. Personally I knew all this stuff myself, but I thought this video was well planned and thought out. PS- the newer Scarlett's have a pad switch so you can ditch the DI box. Keep up the goods man.

Hahaha when he said Core 2 Duo I almost died. I got my i7 4790K in 2014 and how is this dude recommending Core 2 and Athlon/Phenom??? And the whole x32 and 2 gb of RAM. I don't want to be too harsh though. This is the greatest video of this kind I've ever seen. Made it so clear and straight forward.

thank you for this vid, you explain things very well easy to understand, I've been trying for weeks to read up more on load boxes, di boxes and preamps, I've been trying to get amplitube sound amazing like Ola's vid. Feel its the direct sound going in thats the problem more than anything.

There are a lot of good amp sims. the problem is that 90% of the speaker sims are crap.

@@ClearAdventure IR stands for impulse response. Emulation of everything coming behind or after the amp (cabinet/speaker/mic/position).
