I hope you guys enjoyed this video, please bear with me- I know the fish tank is far from perfect but as mentioned I will have to redo the entire thing in a bit anyways!
Some of the fish in this tank are rescued fish so I am aware that it's not the perfect mix of species but I took a few from different people who wanted to get rid of their fish tanks.

Two things- Algae is beneficial to your fish tank; it adds enrichment for your fish, lowers nitrate, absorbs proteinaceous toxins. That's why many professional aquarists use algae filters for their fish as it gives superior water quality. I would happily let it grow on the rocks as I hold my fishes wellbeing to be more important than the aesthetic of the tank. I also notice that you have a pleco of some kind, plecos basic source of nutrition is algae. Removing the algae covered rocks will be rather detrimental to that fish. Secondly I notice you have a green terror cichlid. Please be aware that these are well named. I realise that the fish are rescues and what you are doing is very commendable but as this fish grows it will stress your fish and prey on them. I really suggest you set up another tank ASAP, separate this fish and not wait until your other rescued fish become stressed ( I noticed that your fish weren't quarantined, stressed fish have lowered immunity so any latent diseases they may be carrying will surface as the green terror matures and begins to dominate). This is not a "Fish Police" comment, you are entitled to do whatever you want and I don't know the context of your aquarium experience. This is just some friendly advice from an advanced fishkeeper so as to avoid potential problems in the future.

I had no idea about the algea thing! I thought a lot of algea was unhealthy. In that case ill see if i might not leave it like this. They were quarantined! This is a new tank, they all were in a smaller one before and i just upsized them, no new fish were added :) Thank you for the info on the cichlid. Maybe I'll look into getting him into a new home in that case, where he has a partner and can grow in peace. I took him in from a pet store, he was kept in a tiny tank there and didn't look great... ill definitely take this advise to heart thank you so much!!

@@KioWatanabe There's many different types of algae and some are not good for fish (red slime algae, brown algae, black algae, blue-green algae) but they make valuable indicaters. The point being that these algae make accurate warning signs that your tank is not balanced. To much phosphate, nitrate, nitrite or ammonia grow all of these algae. Brown, red and black tend to grow in low light ; too low for most plants while blue-green algae likes a brighter tank. Green algae in tanks comes in three forms , spot, encrusting and hair. Spot and hair are very unsightly, spot will grow on the glass and needs to be scraped while hair can be removed manually or by algae eating organisms -shrimp, snails, or fish ( like your pleco). Green encrusting algae is definitely unsightly on the glass however it is a sign of a healthy tank. If green algae grows so will your plants. Fish find it somewhat nutritious and many enjoy picking at it, the pleco will definitely enjoy eating it. I really suggest that you watch Rachel O'Leary's channel. She is probably the most respected English speaking presenter on RU-vid. She is absolutely amazing and has many years experience in lectures, articles, forums, and books. She also runs an aquarium fish selling business, breeds very rare species and is an expert in planted tanks. She has a few uploads on algae that you may find interesting.

Try less intense lights and I see no water movement at all.

Actually there's a pretty strong filter in there but it's below the surface so it's not too noticable. I will try cutting the time the lights are on to 5 hours per day and i hope that will help!

Kio Watanabe okay. Are you using bio wheels. Also I use the ultraviolet light filters. Does wonders for controlling algae.
