Day 5 was a rough one. Up on the hot roof all day setting up the leering skeleton and spider. The spider didn't want to move and it took a bit of troubleshooting and several trips up and down the ladder to figure out why and fix it. Then I noticed the cauldron creep had completely died and while inspecting it the floating bone disk split in half and was beyond repair. Between my exhaustion over being up and down a ladder and on the hot roof all day and my frustration with having to constantly backtrack and fix way too many things I decided to shut the display down for the night, order some parts and go to bed early.
Day 6 went a bit better and we are a lot closer to finished. I didn't get a lot of sleep and wasn't in a great mood, but I headed out to the workshop and got to work on the cauldron creep. Cut a new bone disk from thicker plexiglass and got all of the bones reattached to it. After that we started setting up the spider area with beef net webbing and the rest of the small props that go with it. The new power supply I ordered the night before arrived and I got it in the cauldron creep and got that back up and running again. At sundown we set up the spider projections and did our first full test run of the nearly full display.
At this point I'm pretty much exhausted and at least 2 days behind where I usually am. Since my son broke his foot and my wife has been chauffeuring him around to all of his appointments on top of her errands, I've been doing setup this year entirely on my own. It was ok at first, but now I'm getting a bit overwhelmed. Still need to set up main audio and do the grass and weeds, but that's it.
