Anybody that can get on RU-vid and and call themselves an idiot for mistakes has a great sense of humor. I laughed all the way through...and took notes!

Yes Ray, my RV came with friction hinges. The bottom hinge has bound up and has actually failed, threatening to pull the bottom of the door jamb away from the trailer. Mine are the five leaf hinge, not six. I saw on RU-vid a man replace just the one hinge on his trailer that had the identical same damage as mine. The manufacturer has not been easy to deal with. They only sell the five leaf hinge in a 2 or three hinge set, not individually. I'll let you know how it goes, thanks for your response

Another tip for your water hose ( any hose ) is to connect it into itself when storing so nothing or nobody ( bugs ) gets into the hose , and therefore not getting into your water system or you. I noticed your hoses stored with ends wide open to invite unwanted visitors.
@LoveYourRV

I usually do that, it's a good tip. Lots of times though I don't worry about at as we are moving from place to place quite often and it's not getting stored for long periods of time. I also flush out before hooking up. Cheers! Ray

I was in the Air Force for years and learned that checklists were important, if you do not follow a pre flight checklist with a jet there is a possibly it will crash. I was a ground pounder in civil engineers and check lists were important for equipment maintenances and operation. Also important for inventory to make sure you have not forgotten something. thanks for the tips, David

Great video. I wish I had a video of my mistakes. Bought a class c rv this year, got it backed in it's spot in the driveway and managed to rip a clearance light off on a bush. Got a cheap back up camera right away after that! I didn't have it but a couple hours and made the first mistake. It's a learning experience for sure. Too bad there isn't a troll filter on RU-vid. There really is no need for nasty comments, but it seems to be always present. Thanks for sharing your insight. I really enjoy your videos.

Thank you!!!. right after Thanksgiving, I bought a 2008 Bigfoot 21 ft trailer with a Dometic fridge. Previous RV's, a Winnebao View motorhome and a Thor trailer, both had Norcold refrigerators and they have a door hold open built into them. Well, this Bigfoot has a Dometic fridge (my first experience with a Dometic) and I noticed it did not have hold opens like the Norcold. I did however, discover a funny blue piece of plastic in the folder with the manuals and instruction books, and now i know what that is! Yes, secure your loads, how many lawn chairs and sofa cushions have you seen on the interstates? EVERYTHING has to be strapped, secured, weighted, etc., leave nothing to chance.

I LOVE lists. In dealing with changing situations, it is so easy to forget things. When I take off small stuff, I put it in my back pocket so it will remind me that it is there when I sit down. I NEVER set anything on the vehicle roof, hood, or in the engine compartment. Interruptions come, the gear is forgotten and scattered down the road. I also like to pull off a site, then go back for a final inspection. I find what I had overlooked. I also inspect just before pulling onto a site, and find what others failed to remember, and at the same time check for hazards to tires.

I think it takes a mighty nice/strong person to admit their mistakes to the public! Thank you for letting us know, to spare us the costs. There is nothing like the public to let you know how inferior you are & if you were as good as them (even tho they don't use those words) you would be sooooo much better. Look at the log in their own eye before they pick at your splinter. Thank you so much for your good/informative video!

thought you did a good job! i give you one of mine bone headed mistake that maybe you can pass around. those handy dandy ratchet straps that a lot of people who are like you said are tired and just throw in the bed of the truck can be a huge nightmare! had the long end get airborne, went between cab and truck bed, wrapped around the drive shaft sending the ratchet thru the back window at 60 mph. lost a back window, as well 5 or 10 years off my life because it scared the hell out of me when it hit the window. lucky that that wass all the damage. be safe out there every one

Here are 2 helpful tips that I have. 1. after you are hitched up and ready to drive away, do a walk around your rig to see if you forgot something. 2. after you pull out of your camping spot, stop, get out and do a visual check of your camp site. one thing i have seen by doing this is the dog leash that i would have forgot.

The extra valve at 4:00 is also handy when the cable operated valves fail. They fail often. Either the valve jams or the cable breaks or both and you have a "keeper" or back up valve and the trip continues to when you can get around to fixing it.

My bonehead mistakes to date have been: 1) to attempt a turnaround in a parking lot with a ATM kiosk. The kiosk had an overhang projection 0.5 inch lower than my trailer roof, 2) to heat up the electric water heater when it was on bypass and it was empty, and 3) to forget to pin down one of my anti-sway bars.

Guess everyone knows to empty the black water tank first when in a campground and refill it and empty it a second time.....then run a few more gallons into it to slush around, cleaning the tank while traveling.....and, it will already be there when you need to use it.....sorta' a buffer to debris sticking to the bottom.....and, after emptying the black water tank go ahead and empty the gray water tank and this will clean the hose....also have Full Timed for a few years in the past.......definitely a great way to live........have great travels....enjoy your videos......

We got our travel trailer in January and were living in a place that regular got below freezing, so after the first trip, dutifully drained the water from the camping. Of course, I opened the taps to break the vacuum, but when connecting the water at the next trip, forgot about the open taps. I wasn't aware of it until the bathroom sink began overflowing.

Check this out. It's something you may be able to retrofit. The new Cougars allow you to store your sewer hose inside the rear bumper tube, with rubber cap closure on the end. Kind of neat! Never waste any space I guess is their thinking.
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 7 лет назад
I can store them in my bumper too, it has the caps, but can only fit so many sections. BUT! I've actually totally modified my sewer output and added the Waste Master sewer hose. Now I never have to disconnect the hose. just pull it out of a mounted storage box and dump then put it back. - www.loveyourrv.com/ultimate-rv-sewer-system-modification/ Makes it really quick at dump sites - rvhappyhour.com/wp-content/uploads/rtMedia/users/1/2016/11/Wastermaster-hose-storeage-mod-at-dump-800x600.jpg Cheers Ray

Believe me Ray, regardless of what the "perfect posse" might want to believe, we could turn this into a, "My bonehead move is bigger than your bonehead move", REAL easy. I just glad my wife is so compassionate, she always just helps me out of a jam, or calls our RV dealer who then comes and does the same! Now, when my Uncle cleared the A/C unit off the top of his RV in a low underpass, my Aunt, "was NOT a happy camper!"

Ray, When you are carrying your bucket in the back of your truck get a small length of rope and tie it to the bed or the side of your truck. The cops can still book you for insecure load even though you have it weighed down as it is technically not secured to the truck.

i used to keep a 2 gallon can of diesel fuel on the back of my truck when i hauled a 5th wheel. as long as the can was full it was no problem. but if i used the fuel and put the can back in the same place it would blow off. i lost about 4 cans that way. each time it would blow off. but sometimes i had the tail gate on and sometimes not. if they tail gate was on it would blow off if it was not on the truck it would not blow off. took me a few times to learn this

Does your landing gear have a "clutch" on it? It could be too tight and causing you to blow the fuse's. If it does, you need to know how to adjust it in case you get stuck not being able to get your trailer on or off your truck.

I'm surprised your jacks blow a fuse just by leaning on the full-up or full-down position. They should build some sort of overload prevention in that circuit

@lochinvar00465

Another one regards a bumper hitch. Make sure to attach the safety chain. Don't just clamp it on and drive even if for a short distance. Did that once with a boat trailer. Short trip, so I figured what the heck. Then when turning a corner, I noticed there was no boat in the rear view. Backtracked it and found it nudged up to a stop sign. Fortunately, it hadn't hit anyone or anything but very well could have.

Only one exception to the items you could lay on a car or truck roof or engine compartement is that exact vehicles ignition keys the vehicle aint going to move without those keys so and about the regulator install at in trailer end well then one will have to consider using a way stronger heavy duty hose in order to handle possibly higher pressures

On a recent trip, my wife through a small stool into the bed of our truck. While traveling, I noticed the stool flopping around in the rear view mirror. I pulled over to the shoulder and stopped. I found the stool wrapped around the breakaway cord and the cord nearly stretch to the end. Luckily, it didn’t activate the breakaway switch at highway speed. Lesson: always secure EVERYTHING in you bed.

Good advice. I carry a ladder back there and use a ratchet strap to tie it down against the tailgate so it doesn't get tangled up. Cheers, Ray

You best let your tailgate down before you decide to drive off and rip it off with your hitch. But then that would be another video. Thanks for the great tips.

I have a car service using vans instead of my old limo I find his more economical in terms of passengers and less maintenance. I want to provide a service with an RV and I think it could work. What do you think? If I get for proficient enough in its operation I would think people wouldn't want to mess around with taking an RV out not knowing what they're doing.

Sounds like an idea, I've heard of some doing that. They take a fifth wheel to a campground and set it up for folks, then tow it away.

I would like to know where you got the plastic/vinyl “washers”, you have helping to hold on the white rubber trim on your 5th wheel?

Hi Ray, Like your channel! I have a young relative that was given an old (but seems ok otherwise) RV to live in. He's just starting out in life (hasn't built credit) plus has a dog (a lot of obstacles to find a place to live.) So the 1972 RV seemed like a great solution! Prob is no rv park will have him with a vehicle over a decade old. Any workarounds/suggestions/advice?
