Great information for the winter fishing, can't argue with your choice of flies as l use most of them. I would maybe add a squirmy under the bung if the fish aren't interested in the others 👍🎣

Morning Lindsay, my boat partner and I like the egg flies ... and no I didn't whisper it!!! We have developed one in particular and this year we have had numerous days where we have had our catch and release limit of 12 fish each in under 4 hours using the egg and the bung. If the fish want them we give them it if not well we go more subtle! Take care ... atb Jim

It is a great fly and always worth having a few in the box, I prefer the silver and white ones this time of year though.

Interesting choices!! I tied my very first snake a couple of days ago, tricky is an understatement!!, used your video to get me in the right direction but after a lot of swearing and some dumbell eyes(on the underside) it worked out ok. Cheers for that!! ATB Chris.

Cheers Bud, great video and an interesting list. The only comment I have is regarding the size of buzzers. Here in the north west of England a size 14 or 12 during peak buzzer time would be regarded as standard with us occasionally dropping down to an 18 or 20 to suit the hatch. When we go down to Rutland or any of the midland reservoirs we can’t believe how big the insects are down there. We’ve even been known to duck when one flies our way. Many thanks.
@lindsayiflyfish

Great point! I think there is an insect North/South divide in regards size for sure.

That grunter is sly killer of a fly. Also the scud is to often flashy and too darn brightly coloured. Buff grey brown olive or black will tend to bring in the better fish. Conversely hot spots and pink can tempt grayling
@lindsayiflyfish

The Grunter is good on the river early season as well.

Great information. Fortunately confirms I’m more or less on track. Reference buzzers. I have a lot to learn and my choice is somewhat arbitrary. Is there an accepted seasonal process you go through when choosing buzzers to use or is it ‘suck it and see’?
@lindsayiflyfish
@lindsayiflyfish 2 года назад
Hi Scott, If you are taking fish you won’t go far wrong spooning one to see what size buzzers they have been feeding on.

I have no idea, I remember when they used stockings and plastazote balls as the eyes.
