I will be honest, I was a little nervous. Not for our overall safety but comfortability. clear air turbulence, regardless of how severe it is doesn’t bother me at all but when my view outside is obscured and I can’t see any sort of horizon it starts to mess with my equilibrium.
What’s intriguing is that weather never reached DAL (or DFW which is northwest of DAL) brief ground stop for lightning but that was it. It was fun to look at and fly by.
Fortunately we were headed south and were vectored left, prior to the waypoint on the SID. The clouds we went through were the gust front out ahead of the storm. Don’t get me wrong, it was not a comfortable climb out. Oddly enough after I landed in Houston I reached out to contacts at KDFW & KDAL, there were brief ramp freezes for lightning but it never rained a drop at either airport.
@@AListFlierKris Years ago I was on a flight out of YUL with incredibly heavy winds. Thought for sure I was gonna die! Bump and grind until we got through the weather. The view was spectacular! Worth the fright. It just as night was falling. An ocean of dark cloud below and that razor thin stream of light on the horizon. Beautiful!
