Sewing a matching Caraco+Petticoat from an Ikea duvet | Scroop Amalia Jacket

We're heading back into the 18th century in this video. When I originally bought this queen-size cotton duvet set from Ikea I wanted to color the black and white print with fabric markers but when that proved too tedious it sat away in my stash for over a year until now! In my ongoing attempt at stashbusting I'm taking the remaining-uncolored section of the duvet and turning it into a matching 1780s petticoat and jacket ensemble using the Scroop Amalia jacket pattern and miles and miles of hand-sewn trim.

I definitely did not read Caraco in my head with the correct pronunciation the first time. Love the construction detail you give and also the fabric is lovely.

Inspired and inspiring! Seeing your little one napping on the false rump makes me wonder how many children in the 18th century did the same thing while their mothers worked. (Hope life has been kinder to you since you filmed this!)

The black and white fabric is far more striking than any color would have been. Good thing you didn't try to finish it with color markers. Absolutely beautiful gown! And the little heart is an adorable accessory. 🌷

You could make another bow out of the coloured fabric and wear that with the dress. Could be a subtle pop of colour 😉

Thanks, I knew I wanted to do trim to make it stand out from my other late 1700s ikea gown. Glad it worked out!

It came out so well! I would have completely melted down halfway through and put the outfit into “The Corner of Frustration” and your daughter looked so cute sleeping amongst your costumes

Thanks, I definitely had a few mini meltdowns sprinkled throughout. It’s nice to know a false rump can be used as a sleeping pillow as well as a fashion accessory 😂

Oh my gosh! I just love the Jacket and the petty coat. Soooo pretty! I just bought the Amalia Scroop Pattern! But I know it will be a very long stretch! I first need to make some stays! And a linen fabric I ordered turned out to be unsuitable because of the flower design.

So pretty!!! I am thinking that you should use the left over fabric to make yourself a garment for everyday wear. Use the coloured in sections for the bodice of a dress and the rest for the skirt. xxx

The project may have taken way longer than you planned, but the result is wonderful. Your little girl has grown so much! Maybe you could use what's left to make something or several things for her--you might get a cute dress and/or playclothes. Bella Mae Designs had a vlog about using forks to make pleats. That's what I plan to do whenever I need to make them!

I love the end results! I'm planning on making an 18th century Belle cosplay and I think I might either make a short gown or a jacket like this to go over the matching skirt. I found a royal blue fabric with a small floral print and I think this is the sort of project it's made for but with a pleated back to give me maximum volume over the butt pad and give me a rather elaborate look.

Truly enjoyed watching this video and found tthe finished ensemble satisfying. I have been struggling with a Victorian jacket and skirt to use up some linen-look brown fabric with lovely brown flowered cotton.

Oh my goodness, your little is now table height. And yes, that generally means that any breakable thing is now on it's own as far as survivability goes. But, honestly, that's part of the fun... Bum pad as pillow - brilliant. It always amazes me how much a body can get done when faced with a 'don't know what I'm doing' kind of problem. The dress came out beautifully. Well done. Perfect for a B&W tea. Right now I'm still doing work in leather. Because the fully-lined leather belts of my dreams will not make themselves. I found some nice buckles on the ebay for me and Mister Husband. My first belt is done (huzzah!) and ready to hang a sewing sheers sheath from (which is on the to-do list of makes). I'm also making tool rolls so I can build up my 1000 hours while trying out different techniques. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

She’s not yet cutting table height so I still have that surface that’s safe lol! Congrats on finishing a belt. I’d love to do more leatherwork but buying a bunch more tools for another sewing-adjacent hobby is daunting.
@stevezytveld6585
@stevezytveld6585 2 года назад
@@DixieDIY Yeah... taking up leatherwork may not have been the best idea when it comes to downsizing. The tool rolls are to help stop the impulse to buy all the things. It takes less tools than it looks and it cost less because I was finding vintage, but yeah... the 'stuff' of it all... So. You've reached tippy-toes-blind-grab height. At that point my parents resorted to don't touch that thing (in this example, an old vacuum tube TV), because it will explode if you touch it. It didn't work, but points for trying? The only thing I know is that distraction is your very best friend.

I absolutely love this dress. Probably because that fabric is totally stellar. That jacket is so pretty. I would be tempted to wear it for daywear. Did someone say History Bounding? Life has a way of getting in the way of our best laid plans but you stuck with it and got a beautiful dress as a result.

This is beautiful 😍. Thank you for keeping me inspired. My plan is to make a caraco jacket soon, with a piece of fabric, too small for a gown , but have been mulling over design choices. Now I want to make trim ! Although I might run out of patience before you did ..... Hope you and your family are keeping well 🙏 ❤

That trim turned out lovely! Your highest level of success. This make looks nice. The fit looks very good. These jackets look bad when the fit is not well. I think a more sheer ficu would lighten up the top half. You make great videos short sweet to the point faults and all. Thank you. Appreciate you.

I am currently finish my 1840s wrap dress that turned into a day dress (as in, I decided midway through I have enough wraps and want a waistband so it has been a journey) for the summer, and making a makeshift white 'shift' to go under it until my real white shift is complete because I actually want to wear this dress this summer, not next one. Just missing the real buttons and some lace I can buy this weekend so its almost finished. I have also drawn up my next project pattern and I am about to start the adjustments on that. It's a 1840s corded corset with a button closure and I am both terrified and excited to try making it!
@DixieDIY

Oooh all your projects sound exciting! Good luck with everything. The corset sounds unique, you don’t see a lot of people recreating button-front corsets.

this is gorgeous! Could you use the coloured in bits to make some smaller accessories like bows and caps? (not necessarily to go with this dress, jsut because the pattern is cute! and it seems a shame not to use it after you've gone to the effort of colouring it!)

How that you mention it, I could probably cut out a big square to make a handkerchief/fichu. I’m imagining lots of small projects in my future. Thanks for the ideas!
