This was such a fun process to watch! As someone who's made a ball gown I appreciate and respect the amount of time I know this took you to make. I would love to see a summer version! I would also like to see more close-ups for the next one. The only thing I would add is a waist stay. They help with the weight of the skirt and keep the dress in place when you move so you don't have to hike it up.
@ThrillsandStitches

Thank you, I appreciate it, especially from someone who knows the struggle! :) Love the idea of the waist stay, will keep that in mind next time (and yes, there will be a next time!)

Hi what is a waist stay please?
@MadebyChann
@MadebyChann 5 месяцев назад
@@Ronnie20239 it's a piece of ribbon you sew to the waistline of a dress and add hooks and eyes to for extra support.

@@MadebyChannthank you. Is this a professional term so I can google it please. Ps do you know how to make a vampire wife dress? There is a dress that has very full sleeves with rows of shirring elastic in the upper arm. Very full lower sleeve. Very long gathered up into a deep buttoned cuff. The top of sleeve is pleated/gathered And sticks up in a puffed up way. I’m not sure if it’s a bishop sleeve? Like a 1930’s style or an Ossie Clark style sleeve. Any help would be gratefully received ❤

Very beautiful and definitely a study in perseverance 🤗. Since you asked for what you could have done differently, I think you could have finished the top edge with bias tape so it wouldn't hurt your skin and it maybe would have looked cleaner without the sequins sticking up. I would have loved to get a closer look at the back because I couldn't really wrap my head around what you did with the different panels 😄.

Thank you, and I agree! I will actually place a velvet edge band to mitigate the scratchiness :) I will keep the closeups in mind next time!

@@ThrillsandStitches hi how about placing a piece of soft fabric or silk just inside the top edge of the dress. A pleated piece of silk just peeping above the top edge would look lovely without detracting from the sequins and line.

Thanks for sharing your failures and challenges as much as the pieces that are stunning successes. I have yet to sew with sequined fabric, though I have bought it three times. Your video helped me learn its limitations in application. I had never considered how my skin would interact with the fabric. Also, the how a voluminous strapless dress design could be altered by the sheer weight of all the layers. What would be pretty is to salvage all that work by separating the bodice from the skirt and wearing the skirt during the fall holiday season. Then, i would deconstruct the corset top, and replace the side panels wear your arms constantly touch & rub against the garment with velvet or wool crepe or silk Duchess satin. Then reassemble the corset. I think the finished garment would preserve and reflect the cleverness of your design. It might also make the front and back sequin panels really pop because they're framed by a simpler fabric. Of course discard this idea if you find the suggestion offensive. Again I think you're a clever, ambitious sewist. I too like to push myself in both skill and application. Watching you retackle this garment to construct a pieces that could be used because they are comfortable and attractive, would be a video from which we could all learn. Thanks so much for sharing! I am a new subscriber. I really enjoy your productions.

the dressed turned out beautiful! its amazing and inspiring to see you take on the challenge of making something like this with limited space and tools. i love the end result tho i personally think the back lacing would have looked nicer if it wasn't attached to the inside of the dress but to be on the main back part of the dress. i also would love more closeup shoots of the details in the future so we can see your beautiful work better, less filters and more just close natural shoots because its a bit hard to see everything at the end shots. it would be nice to see a different version of this with a lighter vibe and maybe sleeves.

Hi! First, I admire your motivation for a project this big, the dress is magnificent! 💃 Second, I think what you could have done to help the scratchiness and maybe avoid breaking needles was to unsew some seequin in the seam like at the top of the corset and at the botom... it would have been a LOT of work but really Haute Couture 😅 Bravo! Ohh the dress turned out so stunning, I love the length on you as well, it looks really beautiful! Kudos to you for fighting with the sequins (I hope your serger is ok). I like the addition of the modestly panel in the back (I think it looked classier than having that much of your back on show in that kind of dress). Curious to why you chose to attach the corset closure after you had already finished the seams of the opening in the back. I would've thought that sandwiching the closure into the seam would've saved some time? In any case, I hope you're proud of this dress, it's absolutely fabulous! 🥰
@ThrillsandStitches
@ThrillsandStitches 5 месяцев назад
Thank you so much, I am really proud :) Good questions! I attached the eyelets on the inside thinking they would be hidden away. The tension of the lacing popped the folds that were hiding the eyelets open, so it wasn't the result I had initially planned - I did like the look though, it has something deconstructed about it, and I think it works on the black dress (gives it additional interest). For my next project I will change the lacing though (sandwich it into the seam), as I think this look wouldn't work on just any dress :)
@bea6987
@bea6987 5 месяцев назад
@@ThrillsandStitches Ah yes, I didn't consider you would have the eyelets exposed of you sandwiched them, makes sense to hide them for this dress. Either way, it turned out stunning! (And I would love to see a different version of this dress! Something summery, maybe organza, like you had mentioned! That would look stunning!)

Enjoyed that so much. You have just earned yourself a new subscriber. If you are really going for the sixties Audrey Hepburn vibe, perhaps a pair of very long satin gloves would help protect the arms from irritation? Also, in the past, I have used folded wide stain ribbon or satin bias with piping cord inside sewn to the top of the bodice which has helped keep irritating fabric away from my skin. However you choose to wear it, it was stunning🤩

Thank you so much and welcome, glad you decided to subscribe! Oh yes, I even have a pair, I should have added those to the styling that would have looked amazing! It looks spectacular, but also, as you say, uncomfortable. Those sequins look... ouch. But I am a delicate flower, and I find brocade uncomfortably scratchy, so sequins are definitely a no for me. I hope when you get to wear it out for real it doesn't cause you any pain. The lace-up back was a good idea; I like that you could theoretically wear for this many years to come because of that.
