What is in Fournette informative video? Great there’s companies that make machines other than for leather. They should be doing these kind of videos through a lot of machines in the trash because they just didn’t know how to use them I neither did anybody else. Great video guys love it.

Best video (of any category) I’ve ever watched. No annoying loud music or story about your first hand stitcher back in 1975 blah blah blah. straight to the point and on point the whole time. I wish you gave lessons on doing videos as well! Great job guys.

I second what Fred said...a great explanation of the basic process of all sewing machines. I think it's particularly helpful for "all" to see, because it's all 4x bigger and more 'in your face' than machines, thread and substrate used by standard machines. Very entertaining and humorous as well. Thank you guys so much!

After 10 years of sewing experience and fumbling around with many wrong machines, I wish I could go back in time to educate the dummer beginner I was. I would tell the beginner me "just buy a consew 206rb-5" to learn on. That machine will do just about everything you need. V69 to v207 thread, 1/2 presser foot lift, built like a tank and higher capacity bobbins. When you get ambitious, consew 227r 2 up to 138 thread, 1/2 lift, cylinder arm for difficult awkward access work . Cowboy 3200 for up to v346 thread. I didn't know what i didn't know when i began. I wasted a lot of time, money and frustration on the wrong used machines. Sailrite ultrafeed, straight and zigzag will round out my collection

If I got, in my times, a couple teachers like you two, I will be a surgeon instead of a retired cook. I am glad I watch this. Sewing is the only thing that stop me between leather stuff, that I love, and retiring and doing what I like. If I learn enough in the other stuff (making belts, wallets etc.) I will get a machine for dummies. I swear. Hope you get to a lot of people. You two deserve it. Good luck people!

I always avoided the "For Dummies" line of books in bookstores and libraries. Call it pride. However, I watched this long video all the way through because I want to learn industrial sewing: I work in a pillow factory, consider myself a laborer, and it was one of my goals to achieve in promoting myself from PSO5 to PSO6. So, thank you, Kevin and Rusty, for going over the basics. I'm beginning to work on a Singer model 111W150, the old black "straight sew-ers" as we call them. The manual I found is crumbly and missing some pages - so I just copied what I have and bound the double pages. Took me two weeks to sew a trash can liner out of raw fiber bale wrapper - kept unthreading. Probably too stingy with loose thread at start. Watched another industrial machine video last week - good instructor. Found you guys today and you added to my training - good instuctors. Thank you.

The amount of patience that you would have to do your job, especially with a pothead, well somewhere in that shop there is a place in the back that is soundproof just in case a scream is needed. I am impressed with your video gents, having dealt with the public for so long.

I own several industrial vintage machines here in UK England I am just a hobbyist but love the big machines for leather work ` after watching you guys the knowledge I have gained has been golden. This tutorial has explained so many issues I have encountered on my machines when sewing leather that I were scratching my head over, Every issue you two had gone over I have encountered, majority of the time its been my fault not the machines I know now, A Big Thank you for so much knowledge this will encourage me to get back on them and sew with confidence.

I was able to thread it correctly, fix the bobbin winder, trouble shoot not stitching right (broken needle and thread inside bobbin) as well as getting some great tips for starting the stiches. I have watched this video three times now and took notes. I had years of industrial sewing experience (aka endless frustrations) and to hear other guys have had the same experiences was oddly reassuring. This is one of the most valuable informative videos I have ever seen. This video teaches the art of the setup, and the small details which seem trivial but are actually critical to a proper setup and successful run. Rusty, the bit about sewing in reverse to start, then going back over to avoid the bundle of knots has been an absolute revelation to me, the tidiness of the stitching is absolutely impeccable now. They teach setup, sewing technique, the importance of proper bobbin winding, threading, maintenance. Just a fabulous production gents. Springfield also sold me on a Cobra Class 26 so now I have a brand new industrial machine and I’m armed and dangerous with this incredible information. No doubt my productivity, quality and joy have increased and the opportunities for headaches decreased significantly after digesting the material. Thank you many times over, -Nick

Thanks for the video. I have a machine I bought from Kevin. Actually same model shown in video. I enjoyed it, and it brought home some good points. Was sewing today and had needle problems...the exact problem I had was brought up in video. Also, the video pointed out that there is actually a set of drawer sides under the table for the plastic drawer with tools, etc. For some reason I never used this.

I just bought a forty year old sewing machine which is totally mint condition and I am a sixty-two year old man. I did not know how to thread the thing and use it so I am looking at instruction videos and this one is the funniest I have watched. It is informative for sure, but more great entertainment. Kevin looks like he hates sewing machines and at times who does not? Rusty obviously knows a lot and loves sewing machines. Anyway it was so funny I watched the whole video and of course I could see Kevin and Rusty were trying to keep the video going as Kevin seemed to be really bored with it. Hope you both together can put out more vidoes of sewing endeavours as I know a hit when I see one. Thanks.

Excellent and good information shared. I have been sewing for some 30 years now - started with my trusty Juki still humming. Now I am using the Cobra for thicker leather. Two points: YES, you will have problems well said and thank you for confirming this! Cobra can be very challenging, especially at first. Problems? I had to return the head, as bobbin timing was way off. Second point, to start, yes I hold on to the thread but set the needle into the leather, much more controlled. (RAM Leatherwork).

Excellent video! I just went from a Consew 118 (I know OLD) to a Yamaha 1451s I think and I’m wondering if it’s the right machine for me. I am mostly doing auto upholstery...light vinyl to heavy vinyl. I have done some leather and it handles it well , sometimes however when switching to vinyl the pressure is not right. Do I have to adjust pressure every time?
@SpringfieldLeather
@SpringfieldLeather 6 лет назад
Hi, there! That machine should be fine for what you're doing with the auto upholstery. You may have to adjust the pressure each time, depending on the thickness and qualities of the materials. We like to run a test strip for each change in leather/material we do to make sure the pressure is right for the project! Also, if you're not already, using a round point needle will likely help with stitching vinyl projects. Thanks for your questions! Hope this helps. :)
