Sewing My Dream Vintage Dress: 1970s Laura Ashley 

So cute. Love the longer length. Loved Laura Ashley. Her stores were amazing.

I became obsessed with Laura Ashley when I discovered the Batsheva and Joanie collaborations. I stocked up on so many of their dresses, but since I am learning how to sew, I thought it would be nice to make my own using paper patterns!! I'm obsessed with finding old Gunne Sax patterns too. I wish more people would make PDFs out of their old patterns, because I think these are starting to get harder to find and more expensive too.

Isn’t sewing just magical? You learn something new with everything you sew and eventually could make any dress you could ever want!

I’m almost certain that fabric is actually from the 70s! Unless they did a revival in the 90s! I have Laura Ashley’s from the 70s with that print ❤️

This is such a lovely dress! the pictures in the garden were so pretty! I'm not sure you or someone else in the comments can help but I have a seeing question. I think I'm seeing that the seams aren't all even. For example, at the shoulder and side bodice seams it looks off by about 1/8 - 1/4". I find this to be the case especially when I use vintage patterns. I wonder if it's my cutting, my fabric choice, my technique (i.e., the difference is part of the pattern and I should be easing the seams together to fit, hard to do at a shoulder seam), or the actual pattern pieces. Do you just ignore the difference and keep going? (What I tend to do but feel like it's not probably the correct approach.) I hope I'm being clear. Do you have any suggestions or preferences for how you approach seam length discrepancies?

I'm cringing about the hem. My home economics teacher, who would have included a dress of this era since it would have been contemporary, would have marked you down for not letting it hang to allow the bias to relax.
