Me too! My daughter is tearing out some perfectly beautiful white cabinets, and I am going to buy them off of her. I am going to hang them in my sewing area, put in a counter top, and completely redo the space. I am so excited. (She probably won't let me pay for them, but I am going to insist. My husband is helping them remodel their entire basement, tho, so he is contributing in a big way to help them.)

I have an inexpensive glass-top desk that I started with. You can iron straight on it, which is really nice! Gives me a decent sized surface for ironing out larger pieces of fabric. Add a bookcase for organization/storage, and you're on your way! Check out Habitat for Humanitie's ReStore, and other used furniture stores or garage/estate sales.

I couldn't stop laughing my head out when I Watched how crazy you are with fabric and how cluttered your sewing room look like before it got organised. Infact i was organising mine and took a time to rest and Alas! I just jump on your video. that was the reason behind my laughter, Knowing that I am not the only one😊 Secondly, can I suggest you start selling fabrics as you have created an inspiration for youself re: having fabric store! thats what I do as well. I sew and sell fabric on-line. You are very amazing an brilliant!🤗

Okay! Seeing this was SOOOO helpful! I have an ikea kallax system with bins and it's hard because I can't see anything, and everything is layered on top of each other in the rolls (which is the way I learned in school) but I love that you were inspired by fabric stores, it makes so much sense!!

Your room prior to make-over was indeed a HOT mess...omgosh. However, since you've re-structured...now, you can see what you have by putting your fabric on boards is so much easier. I too am a Designer and use to work at a fabric store when I was a student and making "categories" of where your items will go is so essential. Sorting and organizing is always an on-going process, and the small step you have made is an "accomplishment" and wishing you continued success.

I love Ikea. I have their peg boards, etc. You did a GREAT JOB! I am a quilter and I have way too much fabric!! I have a similar idea for fabric storing, but I use acid free comic book boards. Folding 40 to 44 inch fabric (20 to 22 inches as it comes off the bolt) again. I don't use pins as they tend to rust, yup, they do. I have ruined many pieces of fabric from the past. Plus, I find the little pins everywhere, especially on the floor, which my dog manages to find as well. Instead, I use rubber coated paper clips to secure to the board when starting my roll. I also use them at the end to secure to the previous fold. ( or elastics). The comic boards stand up well in my Armoire on the shelves...double deep and by color. My friend used my idea on a tall bookcase. I also measure each fabric, as I roll, and mark it on one end of board. If I remove any while sewing my projects, I simply minus off that amount and put new amount. That way I know right away if I have enough for a project without unrolling. I saw a video on putting a sticky address label with Manufacturer and name of fabric. I like that idea. I am doing that going forward. I have run out of a fabric many times and unable to match as I don't have the info. Again, Congrats!

I love how this turned out and what a great idea to make it feel like a fabric store! I had to stop myself from buying anymore fabric until I get projects done, too. But I have found another use for a lot of my stash because of Covid-19 I have been making masks! You have inspired me to organize projects for clothing so that I can actually see them instead of buried in a plastic covered bin - "out of sight, out of mind". Thank you for making this video!

My mom was a fabric fiend too. She kept hers folded in stacks on open shelving. Eventually she placed those stacks in carboard boxes with the front panel removed. But a word of caution....the sunlight from the windows faded some of mom's fabrics at the exposed edges.

Omg 😭😭😭😭 I don’t know weather I’m super jealous or amazed or inspired maybe a mix of all of these tbh it looks soooo good I’d be feeling super happy even walking in the room if I had my own fabric store in my house lmao!! I’m amazed that u could press and fold ALL of this fabric in only 6 days ????? I have like not even 10% of what you have and I feel like it’s gonna take me weeks to sort out once I find the courage! at least it makes my organization seems more doable in comparison I thought I had a lot of fabric but I guess not anymore haha! I like the downsizing I’m also frustrated at my huge ass sewing table but hated to cut on the floor when I didn’t have it my back pain can’t take it 😭 and it makes such a mess. But yeah anyway congrats on your sewing room make over u can be so effing proud of the result imo!!!! and thank you for inspiring me to rethink my own organization

That was very interesting, and you did a great job! May I offer a tiny bit of advice, though? Cutting stuff on the floor gets old VERY fast, trust me on that one. I'd recommend you keep that big table, because you may miss it sooner than you think. I'd suggest doing something with hinges like your Ikea table, maybe with some cork so you can pin inspiration stuff on it when it's up?

I am so relieved, I thought I had a lot of fabric, I guess I can go shopping again (not really) ~ Thanks for the tour. It does look very pretty. I am working on making my sewing room easier to use, and also have a shopping list for Ikea. I'm actually a clothes hoarder, and my New Year's resolution for 2020 was to not Buy any new clothes. If I want something new I Must make from my fabric stash, and I'm only allowed to buy items needed to complete a project (vs starting a project). Current events have made the not shopping thing completely easy, but I have become very aware of the shortcomings in my sewing space. New chair is pretty much job one, and a table top ironing board for sure.

Really got a more than a few good ideas from this makeover. Funny, when you poked fun at the messy room, I thought how did she get into my sewing room. Having the room work better is definitely, a better road to creativity. It's hard to be inspired when you have to clean up or look for something and make more of a mess to find the thing to start the project.
@TheCrafterpreneur
@TheCrafterpreneur 4 года назад
I agree! It was almost as if a block had been cleared when I organised the room. Now I'm in here every day and even when its a mess (im messy) it's still inspiring. I did a studio tour of it in its current state (meaning I didn't clean beforehand) so you can see how I use it on a day to day.

Hi, only just found your channel, I think that I am going to enjoy it. Early 2019 I reorganised my fabric and rolled it, I was never happy with it, I think that it looks untidy so I am going to redo it, I like the way that you have done yours so I am going to try it, will order foam board. I know that by now you will have reorganised you patterns but I did mine, some time ago using the Mimi G method. I find it great. I am sat in the living room, as I write, with my file of pattern covers by me! Than you for doing these videos.

I've been brainstorming how to organize my sewing room after having moved to a new house. I don't want the same sort of mess I had in the last place so have been doing research. I'm not fond of bolts because of the center crease down the middle... but your fabric shelves look so great I may have to reconsider... I'm thinking 6mm laminated wood planks would look stellar... I absolutely LOVE how you organized your fabric! I have a ton of nice fabric that I store in big bins and piles and cannot see it, then forget about it and just run out and buy more. Your method of folding it on boards like a fabric store is brilliant! I am going to use your idea for sure as I am planning a big fabric organization and storage solution. One question: what do you do with your scraps once you have cut into the fabric? That is another big problem that I have because I tend to keep the bigger pieces of scrap fabric thinking I may use them someday, and sometimes actually do use them. Just curious how you deal with them. Thanks for the great and entertaining video!
@TheCrafterpreneur
@TheCrafterpreneur 4 года назад
So for large scraps I have a big storage bin that I put them in. I make small projects, Scrunchies, FACEMASKS with them. I also use the cottons and knits as cleaning rags if they are really too small for me to do anything with. Another thing you can do is chop them up more and use them as stuffing for other projects (if you make dolls or teddys) Cushions or make yourself a tailors ham. off the top of my head that all I can think of. but I do a few of those things and its makes the pile a little smaller.

Wow great job :D Just found your channel! Look forward to looking at your other video's. One thing that helped me personally was taking apart the pattern cover and put them in a binder and then file the patterns and instruction in a special drawer system using plain white envelopes. That's kinda when I realized I have so many! But now I can just take the binder out and look at what pattern I have. Useful too when you go to someone else's place and what to choose a pattern with them. Keep up the awesomeness and happy sewing :D
