Thank you so much for the tutorial to go with your pattern. I just made one for my mother for mother's day and it came out so sweet. She's going to love it. Will have to make a few more styles for myself. Great tips and easy to follow alongside if you can watch video while sewing.
Thank you for sharing the bag making video. The lady teaches very well and is easy to understand. When I have free time, I think I'll practice doing some.🥰
Ah finally!! I’ve done at least 4 crossbody patterns and tossed all of them in frustration!, This video was really great and easy to follow! I put one together this afternoon and it’s so cute! I think I will make several for gifts, they’re perfect for on the run. Thx and plan to check out your other videos! Vicki
You did an excellent video with clear and easy instructions to follow. Thanks a lot for this video. This is a very nice Crossbody Bag that I want to make for all my grandkids (girls), also for my everyday wear. I am a beginner and I made one, I think it came out beautiful. Now I started making my Xmas gifts. God bless you 😊
I love the way the straps are in the zipper I am going to try that. I always put the on the side and I think it looks funny...I just wish there was a way to put them on the sides where the zipper is
I am a very experienced sew-er, but I don't understand how to line up/sew the top zipper into the side seams (that's where I am in the pattern right now). The video helped more than the written directions... I'm ready to give it a try. I added 3 credit card holders/pockets into the back lining piece so the cards don't float around in the bag or fall out. I'm making 3 of these bags with Harry Potter fabric for my kids who are visiting Universal Studios in Florida. Note: definitely use the SF woven interfacing she recommends - amazing results! Walmart sells it by the yard or pre-packaged.
Sewing and lining up the top zipper can be a little tricky. What I do is just line up the fabric seams along the zipper (the zipper seam that was topstitched) and clip or pin that spot so it stays in place till you sew it closed. Also, that’s a great idea adding card slots! ❤️
It’s been a while since I timed it, but I think it was around an hour and half maybe. But it can vary depending on a lot of factors, so you might me able to get done quicker than me, or it might take a bit longer.
Hi there! I just purchased the pattern, and can't wait to make these!! Question....I like to use zipper tape over already made zippers. What length of zipper tape should I measure out?
I haven’t made one using zipper tape yet, but I believe if you cut both zippers to be as long as the width of the rest of the pattern pieces then it should work out just fine without any wasted zipper tape.
Our sewing shops in Townsville Australia don't carry any bag excesseries like the slide adjuster and ? is there a web site were we can purchase these items from for the strap ...?
Amazon has them. The craftmemore hardware was a very good quality - I just purchased and used them. 3/4 inch is plenty big enough, I don't like the look of the 1 inch hardware - too big for this bag. 1/2 inch is great, too.
I've made two of these so far...and have enjoyed them. My only problem I keep having is the top zipper! Once finished & turned, they don't look so nice. What's the secret? Thinking there must be a fix. Otherwise, I'm in love with it. Got any ideas?
I made one of each. One I used the heavier stabilizer and I didn’t like it bc it was too bulky and didn’t look as good. Then. I used a very lightweight stabilizer and didn’t use it at all on the lining. I loved the way that came out. It turned easier too.
I’m so glad to hear you like the pattern! Without being able to see the zipper issue you’re experiencing, here are a few possibilities of what might be causing problems. The ends of the zipper in the seam allowance may need trimmed down a tad more before turning. But I wouldn’t trim the seam allowance down any more than to 1/8” or 1/4” so the zipper doesn’t fray when you turn it. Or (page 26, step 19 of the pattern) be sure to push outward on the zipper from the wrong side of the fabric (hand through the turning hole) to help poke out the zipper corner. My last thought is that maybe the fabric/zipper is shifting while you’re sewing the bag up? If you think that might be the problem, try adding a few more clips around the zipper, or throw a few extra pins in for additional hold. Or you could also try using a walking foot if clips aren’t stopping the shifting. But also feel free to message me on Etsy with pictures if these tips don’t work, or you think it’s something else! We’ll get this figured it! ❤️
I downloaded your pattern and made 2 bags right away! These are addictive! I am having a bit of an issue getting the open end of the zipper to turn out and lay nicely like yours. Any tips would be welcomed.
Here’s a few things I make a mental note of doing to make sure my zippers lay nicely. Make sure the exterior top seams are aligned and secured together before sewing so they don’t shift around (video time 37:00 for a visual) Make sure to trim down the seam allowance, especially around the zipper, to remove the bulk in that seam. But don’t trim it too close to the seam or it can pull through your stitches And then make sure to push out the corners at the top zipper before sewing the opening in the lining shut (video time 45:15). Sometimes I have to push up on the zippers a tad more forceful than others for whatever reason, but also still gentle so I don’t bust the zipper through the seam 😄
@@AngieKT327 I will try your suggestions. Bags 3 and 4 cut out and interfaced. I think these will be part of Christmas for granddaughters. Great granddaughters, too maybe.
It’s not a problem when you’re using nylon zippers. Your needle just goes right in between the zipper teeth. 😄 If you’re making this and using metal zipper teeth though, then you’d want to make sure to leave the zipper out of your seam allowance.
I used #3 for both zippers on this bag. In the video description I’ve included a link to the pattern and that link also contains a full materials list 😄
Excellent instructional video! I just purchased the pattern. Would it be possible for you to create another one with a box bottom! Love a great box bottom bag pattern.
@@AngieKT327 I'll express what others have said, great pattern and the video explanation really helps. I'm adapting a larger one, is there any reason one couldn't hack in a (albeit small) box corner on the bottom exterior and lining on this existing pattern?
I typically get it either from Amazon or from MoreMeKnow.com. Amazon is cheaper and you can buy in bulk, but the quality from More Me Know is way better 😄
i bought this pattern and was so dissapointed as it wont fit my phone as ive bought the pattern ill have to lenghten it to make it fit my phone is 7inches and wont do up
Sorry, I was thinking this comment was on a different bag. Brain stopped working for a second 🙃 On the crossbody strap on this one I don’t use interfacing just to cut down on the bulk, but you totally can interface them for extra stability. And if I did want to interface the strap I personally would probably just go with a thin woven interfacing, same as the rest of the bag.
This pattern is a digital download PDF so you’ll receive an email with a link to the pattern right away, or it’s also available to download immediately on Etsy’s website (can’t download on the app)
After buying the pattern Etsy sends a confirmation email of your order and this email contains the link to download the pattern. If you click the link in the email that says “View your files on Etsy” it will take you to the pattern link to download it. If you didn’t receive this email from Etsy you can also go to your profile on Etsy.com (it won’t work on the app) and look at your previous purchases and there will be a link to download the pattern there as well.
I been making these bags for family and friends but I been seeing videos about fraying. Should I worry about fraying on this bag? I'm new to sewing so I don't know a whole lot yet
Fraying usually comes into play when a bag isn’t lined the raw edges of the exterior fabric are visible on the inside of the bag. And then as you use the bag the raw edge starts fraying because cotton fabric is woven and it basically starts unraveling. Since this bag doesn’t have any visible raw edges you don’t have to worry about fraying. There might be a little bit of fraying taking place, but you’ll never see it since it’s hidden between the exterior and the lining fabrics and your seam will stop it from fraying any further 🙂
@@AngieKT327 thank you so much for getting back with me. That makes me feel more comfortable about the bags not fraying. Your videos been alot of help to me
This pattern only uses 1 d ring, simply to cut down on the hardware needed. You can definitely add a 2nd d ring and swivel hook though to make your strap removable.
The Pattern materials list ½ yard Pellon P44F Fusible Interfacing (or similar lightweight interfacing) ½ yard light to mid weight interfacing like Pellon SF101 Shape Flex (or similar weight woven interfacing) When is this used?
Those are the interfacings used for the the lining and exterior fabric pieces. If you've already purchased the pattern then you can find the specifics on which type of interfacing to use on which fabric piece in the Cutting Instructions section on page 3 of the pattern document, or they're also on the printable pattern pieces at the end of the pattern beginning on page 28.
Thanks for the feedback! I don’t have a microphone yet so I think the problem is just when I turn my head away from my phone 🙃 I’ll make sure to work on that so my voice doesn’t fade out so much! ❤️
