This is a great tutorial. Creating the "tail" to hold at the beginning of your stitch run is fantastic. I've been using a pair of tweezers all these years! You're use of marking the fabric at closer intervals makes for a more even gather...well done!
By the way, I have looked at various sewing videos online when I need help and yours are the best. (You saved me when I wanted to create a contrasting godet to insert into the hemline of a coat - couldn't understand anyone else's instructions). Your instructions are very clear, go step by step, it's easy to see what you are doing, you're not yelling over sewing machine noise, your tips are the best. Sometimes it's like an instructor has come to my house to rescue me from my ambitions (or show me how they can become a reality). You show how doing something simple can make all the difference - like this thread tail to control the other end of the elastic. Thank you for doing these. I'll stop gushing now. :)
Thank you. I’m an experienced sewer and I’ve just realised why my morning wasted was due to human error....I was stretching fabric with elastic. Just goes to show we all make mistakes. Your video tuition is very clear and precise. Lovely.
Can you use clear elastic as the "grip" on the bands of strapless bras to keep the bra from sliding or moving? I noticed strapless bras have elastic or silicone or something (not sure what it is exactly) and does not have "grips", dots or anything raised to qualify as the gripping part unless it is the material itself. So, is clear elastic an option to put on the bands of strapless bras? Many many many thanks!! Jocelyn
I loved your technique of creating thread tales! I want to use clear elastic to create mild ruching in the shoulder seams of T shirts that are now a size large following weight loss. Taking the T shirts in at the sides is not enough, they shoulders are still large. I was struggling with starting off and think your method will work. Also, with your second method, could long thin pins crosswise in the elastic, rather than marking the elastic work? Of course, pulling each one out before sewing over it.
Hi! Im trying to make a swimsuit. I want to make it by making 2 back and fronts and bagging it out, although id like elastic in the leg seams. Do you think this clear elastic would work if i put it in as i overlock the leg holes??
