Had a hysterectomy at 33 years old after severe endometriosis. Am now 66 years old. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING CHANGED. I got my life back. Best decision I ever made. No more pain, no more Pms. I also kept a piece of 1 ovary. No hormones were prescribed. Best thing that ever happened to me.

Thank you for being so open about your experience. This really helped me. I am having surgery in a few months for a subtotal hysterectomy. I was panicking about the after and thinking of backing out of surgery because of misinformation others had put on the Internet telling me I could never be normal again or experience sexual pleasure post hysterectomy. This gave me hope. Thank you.

Thank you Jessica for these videos- I am 5 weeks post hysterectomy and your advice has been so helpful- in fact I am doing my kegels right now while typing. In this video the idea of "mourning" before going into surgery- yes! I am a Life Cycle Celebrant- so naturally I thought about rituals and ceremonies on how to say "goodbye" to my uterus. Before my surgery I "took" my uterus (aka myself) to favorite places, took photos and documented on my social media our goodbye tour. We went leaf peeping, mountain biking on our favorite trail, to a concert, and we looked through photo albums together of our pregnancy photos. It was a proper goodbye, and I built up such as story about our final adventures- the surgery felt like teamwork and I had no problem letting go. It was all good fun but sweet and helpful too.

They called mine a radical hysterectomy back early 90s. The one thing that really helped me stay away from Premarin was an herbal choice of black cohosh in Remifemin. Some of those hot flashes are down right horrible. This keeps me sane and a little drier! Helps a bit with mood swings too I think. I love that your excercise is slow and impactful. I do not like heart pounding exercise anymore. Will be trying this on my lower back pains. Thanks for making it simple and meaningful as well. Most of all, thanks for sharing!

I had a hysterectomy due to fibroids. My doctor said keeping the cervix gives more support to the pelvic wall. I have never had children but did not want to end up with a prolapse so I kept my cervix. If you test negative for HPV and have the same partner, annual pap tests are not required. One thing that really made me want to keep my cervix is because of the "vaginal cuff". That is where they sew up the top of the vagina where the uterus and cervix used to connect. I read horror stories of women having a vaginal "blow out" during sex ( the vaginal cuff split open) and I certainly did not want that! It is one of the risks of removing the cervix.

I am so glad and blessed to come across your videos. I am 52 and perimenopause and have been diagnosed with stage two prolapse about a year ago. I have been dealing with it going to physical therapy, but it seems that I may be getting a little worse, I can feel my cervix and see it, my job keeps me on my feet running back-and-forth and it’s been extremely busy lately. I don’t know if that has part to do with me getting worse extremely nervous about getting surgery. My regular GYN feels I shouldn’t have it. I should try to maintain it, but it is truly annoying and I’m comfortable most days, not sure what to do

I just found your video on my feed, saw the title and knew I had to watch. I can’t believe I’m going to share this, but…I had an emergency hysterectomy at 44 due to massive blood loss during my periods. I have no children, I am now 54, post-menopausal (kept my ovaries). I always knew I had a “short” vaginal canal. At no point pre-surgery did my surgeon ever tell me that in removing my cervix, it would get even “shorter.” Sex was incredibly painful afterwards, to the point my husband became scared because he did not want to hurt me. Result? We have not had intercourse in 8 years. We love each very much but our marriage has obviously suffered. The lack of intimacy just grew into what is now a sexless marriage. I am embarrassed, ashamed, feel guilty all the time, and I don’t know how or what to do to fix it. I figure I’m probably “frozen” at this point. So, I’m watching this in tears, wishing I had had a better surgeon, that I asked more questions. Thank you for doing this video, I think and hope you can help a lot of women avoid the sad situation I’m in now.

Well of course. If you're just having a hysterectomy then they're taking out the uterus but I'm surprised they're leaving the cervix since it's part of the uterus. If they were taking out your ovaries then that would be an oophorectomy,a separately named surgery sometimes done the same time as a hysterectomy.

Thanks for sharing your hysterectomy story. I had a full hysterectomy- removal of my uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes in 2022 at the tender age of 50. The linen of my uterus was embedded with fibroids and I had a huge fibroid the size of a melon that had grown outside of my uterus; connected to my uterus from a stem that looked like a bone. From the photos it looked like I was carrying twins. In fact, my uterus had grown to the size of a woman that’s 7mos pregnant so I looked pregnant. My surgeon decided to keep both of my ovaries because they were so thick and in tact; according to my surgeon’s statement and Pelvic MRI- like that of a 20yr old. In addition, I still had so many eggs left and prior to my hysterectomy, I was still having menstrual cycles. My twin sister and I are now 52 and she still has a monthly cycle which means I would too had I not had the hysterectomy. Overall, I feel great and am still se*ually active with hubby. After my 6wk post-surgery checkup with my doctor, she said the cuff had healed well and I could have se*. Lastly, my surgeon performed a bikini incision and I was glued back together. You can’t even tell I had surgery. I was up and walking the day after my surgery and was fully healed within 6wks. I also did not take any pain medication. It was the BEST decision I made.

The worst decision that I ever made was the removal of my uterus. Sex SUCKS and men can tell that something is missing be it less enjoyable. I can not keep a relationship because of it. it's depressing and it has ruin my sex life. kegel exercise does not work...I have tried it. Apparently my love life is over!

There's no "partial hysterectomy". It's a hysterectomy, period. Hysterectomy means uterus removal. They don't take out part of your uterus and leave the other part in you, that would be pointless. If you are thinking it's a partial hysterectomy because they aren't taking out your ovaries then you're wrong. Taking out the ovaries is a separately named surgery called an oophorectomy. They are often done at the same time but are still separately named. So if somebody says they had a complete hysterectomy meaning they had their ovaries taken out along with their uterus they are mistaken. A hysterectomy or a "complete hysterectomy" is just removal of the uterus only. Hyster is for uterus and ectomy is for removal of. If they had their ovaries taken out during the hysterectomy then it's called a hysterectomy with an oophorectomy. Do some research on the proper terminology for things and you'll be surprised at what you'll learn.

@@ericcutrer1467 It is called partial or supracervical if they don’t remove the cervix.
@ericcutrer1467

@@thelmadickinson2740 No no no,like I said there is no "partial hysterectomy." Hyster means uterus and ectomy means removal, plain and simple. There would be no good reason for a Dr to leave just a cervix in a woman and if they do they aren't being very smart. Take it out to prevent any chance of cervical cancer and because she doesn't need a cervix with no uterus. Besides that the cervix is part of the uterus.

I am happy I came across your video. I had my hysterectomy 7 wks ago and had my post-op check-up at 6wks. All was good and healed but still a few internal pains. For the first 2 wks, I felt I had gone to hell. After my check-up, my partner has been caring. When we were about to have sex he picked up I was scared and so we just did him. I am still concerned about the internal healing and I am patiently waiting for 12 wks time-lapse and so is my loving partner.

@@jodieeaves3186 I must apologize, Jodie, I have only just found your reply to my comment section of the Email Box. Oops. I first mention that I recovered well. But sex has changed big time for me. My orgasms were always connected with my uterus and now I feel nothing and am unable to orgasm. My health has been great even my Type 1 Diabetes that I have had for 6 decades has been the best it has ever been. But I am very sad that I can not enjoy sexual intercourse anymore. I had looked over a few RU-vid videos when I found that hard fact out. But I had to have the operation as eventually, it would have turned into cancer. I try very hard to not let it get me down too much, but I do have a wonderfully supportive partner who loves me.

@@amberm.2226 Hi Amber, it does return. I was operated on in April 2021 and I had the most joyous sexual moment with my partner at the end of November 2022. I was believing up until that moment that I was never going to experience that joy and excitement. But wow I was wrong. It does return. I did a lot of research before and after the surgery about the operation, recovery, exercises, and anything that was relevant to how I was feeling and thinking. Whatever you do not give up on your own self. Ask questions by way of the internet and Facebook, hysterectomy groups. Speak with whoever you can about anything that is worrying you. When my doctor told me about the state of my uterus, if I did not get it out I would have gotten cancer. So I am at peace now with all that has happened. The fear you are concerned about is okay and very understandable. If you have any more concerns speak with your doctor or Jessica whose channel we are chatting on. I can reply again if you want. Good luck OXOX

You are wise for them to take the service. I had mine three days ago. Full hysterectomy except they kept both of my ovaries. For seven consecutive years I have had three cancer cells every single year. And then had to get a colposcopy and elite procedure. Because the female cancers run in my family with my grandma having uterine cancer one aunt having breast cancer and somebody else had a cervical cancer, I knew that it was only a matter of time before they they came back cancerous. Plus I had developed polyps in my uterus which had a nine out of 10 chance of becoming cancerous very quickly. My endometrium was growing into the lining of my uterus and I had several fibroids. Not to mention I bled for seven weeks straight. Having microcytic anemia which is a rare form of anemia, I kept fainting. This resulted in a transfusion. I am three days out now. And my postop morning has stopped. I’m very happy about that. I’m still sore and crampy which is to be expected, but it’s far better than it was prior. I have three children at home with special needs and one who does not have special needs. The disabled ones, are severely disabled. I’m doing my best to try to live forever so I don’t have to leave them behind in the system after I’m gone. Also, there’s nobody to take care of me. So I couldn’t be stuck to a bad feeling with cancer for hours a day I try to get the hysterectomy with the abnormal cells after four years, but insurance wouldn’t cover it then. When all the other things came to fruition there was no argument. I’m already happy with the procedure and I have peace of mind that I don’t have to worry about having pre-cancerous cells on my cervix again and this is gonna be the time where it actually is cancer. It has made a tremendous difference simply not even have to worry about that anymore. I have enough to worry about. Thank you so much for making this video about the sex thing. I am too early on in the process to even consider that notion, but I was curious as to how things were going to be afterwards.

Well that's the only kind of hysterectomy there is. They don't do a partial one. That would mean taking out part of your uterus and leaving part of it. Hysterectomy means uterus removal and nothing else. Taking out the ovaries is an oophorectomy, a separately named surgery. They are often done at the same time.
