This is my second video ever watching these tournaments, really fun to watch. I grew up with Street Fighter II in the early 90's when I was a teenager, it was such a phenomenon in 1991 and I would go about every week to the arcades to play. I was never really great, and I got decent with the SNES version. What sucked was being pretty good on a controller, but going to the arcade stick kind of threw me off doing dragon punches. I quit playing after Turbo Edition, SF had kind of runs its course and was getting older. Anyway, really cool to see such talent these days and seeing them play with older characters in this tournament helps me relate a little more. So awesome those arcade sticks, too, that's what I needed back in the day at home.
To people asking why they use old style characters... It's not just a graphical thing. The old characters actually have slightly different move sets/ priority and frame differences, stronger damage hadoken , quicker dp etc etc.
They probably changed it back to original sprites so that there are no shifts in hitboxes and it's the same for everybody. Most of the people that have played this don't know the new HD sprites and their hitboxes as well as the old original ones.
COMPLETELY agree with the Arcade Cabinet comments. I'm transitioning to "Lap Style" currently. The SFxT VS stick helps quite a bit... Looking forward to the Razer Atrox...
I really liked the championship hacked version the best. super slow fire balls that barely move across the screen , and throw 3 fire balls that are still in the screen. infinite Dragon punches that just keep you climbing the screen . do you guys ever play that version. it was my favorite...
I kind of agree with you, but it depends on the matchup. In that Sagat mirror fight, it was more of a poker match than anything else. Reading your opponent and predicting what they'll do.
I've actually improved a little just from watching this video. I mean I suck, i'm a total noob at SSF"THDR, but I love it, it's my first SF game and one of the few fighting titles I play, and I want to improve.
Is there a technical reason why these pro players choose old school sprites? Visually they jar so badly against the HD backdrops. ...Also how do you get the SSF2 /SSF2 Turbo options at the character selection screen? Thanks.
awesome. asians losing is something that warms me heart in gaming . because ive always seen soo many of them so good. its nice to see that everyone is equal
Why aren't they playing the actual arcade version? That'd be a better championship. Or at least give them a bit bigger screen. What is that a nineteen inch screen? You'd think they could at least give em a 30 inch or something :/
There are bigger 1ms TN panels. PC monitors are probably faster than TV's though. But even a lot of them have speakers that can double as a TV which is what I do with my monitor. lol.
It's not really sporting, but every fighting game has its own strategy. In MvC it's all about air juggling and wall-banging, where in this it's about hitting your opponent in the knees with a fireball when they're jumping. That's why I play fighters casually, with other casuals. :X I have a lot more fun.
The shouken on 1:36:26 wasn't even a hit... And the one at the ending at 1:36:42 was supposed to actually be a hit! ...It *HURTS* to see the best SF title like this!
The Sagat vs. Sagat match beginning at about 10:15 reaffirms my belief that fighting games need some sort of 'ammo' or 'mana' system for fireballs. Just look at that shit.
The floor on Ryu stage is so horrible what were the artists thinking? The wooden slats are scaled way too bit, and there is no blending with the rear wall. Its shocking that the most famous stage in the game on a reboot of the game nearly 20 years on was subjected to this :( And do not get me started on the lack of flying midgies!
I have not been caught up with professional gaming for a while or e-sports. Who is the current world champion of Street fighter? They should make the world champion play all the Street fighter games including the original Street Fighter 1 not just the popular Street Fighter 2 and up etc. They should list all the world champions for gaming for the fans so we know all the best players from around the world.
