+VinylEnergy Team Fortress Grand Prix needs to happen now! I nominate a trio of medics in a van where two of them get high off of each other's medi guns the whole time, a demoman in a totaled beater that's somehow still drivable getting drunk off his ass while driving, and a heavy in full biker attire on a badass chopper.
The ending was breaking point. The statement that "The BLU Team vehicle was Airborne when it crossed the line so BLU is disqualified" being a way to pass the Trophy to the RED team, was out of nowhere and made it feel like it was done as an excuse to deny BLU team the Win... What doesn't help was how none of the other racers were disqualified for using cloaking devices or harpoons installed within them to attack other racers, yet BLU's truck is disqualified for... Being thrown flying by an opposing racer's Explosives that the Racer planted on their vehicle, and the Judges _Very Clearly Saw the Whole thing!_ It's the same reason why a Payday 2 Saxxy entry didn't get a win either, since the video basically had the ending reveal that the Payday Gangs' masks were fitted with rebreathers... At the last minute of the Heist... By Bain literally telling them that when they needed an extraction point. An easy fix for the Payday saxxy video was to have had Bain tell the crew that from the start. Here, I cannot see a way to make the Biased ending work. The only way to have made this even somewhat qualifiable, would have been to have made the judge unbiased, as an unbiased Judge would have disqualified half of the Racers for having modifications meant to directly attack other vehicles, and the DemoTanker for blowing up a chunk of the race course... Which would have meant only the _Judge_ gets to walk away with the trophy, since the _Other_ half of the racing roster are kinda Dead... But if you still want a Biased ending, then the only other way, would have been for the Audience in the stands to get enraged by this Bollocks and chase the RED Team and the Judge... Which would allow for BLU to get a Win of sorts, as while _they_ didn't get the Trophy, RED won't get to enjoy the theft of their Win either, as the Crowd now wants to lynch them for their nonsense.
I think the animation is really good for your first entry. A little more practice and you will definitely have a chance at the Saxxies--just keep on practicing!
I will say Utratomic that i wont admit this the best extended saxxy i've seen and it was a couple of months ago for the awards, but this has a nice touch to it and good idea. Plus ur animation is REALLY GOOD compared to the other ones of sfm you did. So keep it up and dont loose that creativity spark! Sincerely, GENT,EC
I liked the concept and the general direction. However, several problems are easy to notice (at least for me). - *Some of the maps are glitching or not exactly loaded* Examples: Tarmac in first part of race was a little texture-glitchy, Camera angle when exiting second tunnel reveals "hole" in the maps -*Vehicles are not very convincing.* Almost no noise from them, wheels are not turning, and some of the movement is awkward and ill-layed out. - *Multiple vehicles were of lower quality* - *Race Manager's voice changing was not exactly pleasant.* He didn't have a voice anywhere close to Spy's voice, so using a voice clip from Spy was a bit of a mistake. - *Race Length seemed off.* It was clear that this took place over the course of just a few minutes. Consider either reducing the mileage, not mentioning the mileage, or allowing for a day-night transfer. Spacing out the time they leave the start/finish versus the time they made it back to the said start/finish line might help. - *Better Rule Terming Needed* Spy says they are DQ'd due to their car leaving the ground. That said, a more reasonable ruling would have been the 'car was hovering'; cars don't often stay planted, especially on rougher courses. Consider watching any rally car race to get an idea of this. - *Hovering Seemed Pointless* I didn't see any purpose to the hovering. It didn't really benefit them in anyway, and it didn't even stall the detonation (if anything, it made Demoman blow them up quicker). Having Scout activate it BEFORE the Sticky-Bombs are planted would have made more sense. Consider having Demoman have a few rounds nearly miss, Scout activate the suspension in response, and then have the bombs reach the destination - *Entry List says "Maintenance Report" at the top.* Seeing that a custom texture would be needed to add the drawing on the clipboard, this shouldn't be that hard to fix. - *Vehicle paths are of low quality* Most notable 1:35; they dart noticeably that makes them look like they are on a set track. No real weight transfer apparent. Most noticeable with the Scout on the Motorcycle and the Blu Pickup - *Scout's Tunnel Entry Makes No Sense* Scout looks surprised when he cranks the hard right-hander to the first tunnel, as large boulders are directly ahead. However, the way Sniper and Spy reacted would suggest that they had taken an alternative route. - *Demoman's Reaction to the Hover-Truck is Off* It is hard to tell that Demoman notices the start/finish line is approaching, as only a tiny little flag/pole can be seen in the background. It isn't made obvious that is his reaction to seeing the finish line, and it looks more like he is surprised by the Hover-Truck. - *The Intro at 2Fort Seemed Unneeded* No notable event happens here that effects the race outcome. The only thing it shows is that it is Engi modified it, but this is made plain obvious when the truck stalls and Soldier refires it. -*What the Hell happened to the Motorcycle Scout?* After the truck is refired, the Motorcycle isn't seen for the rest of the video. -*Tanks Shouldn't be Capable of That Speed* At least the ones in the TF2 Era are incapable of such speed. Overall, it has potential, but it has several qualities that make it a "medium" quality video. Certainly not the worst video out there, but many improvements are needed. I see plenty of potential here, so if you can improve the areas mentioned, it can easily become a top-of-the-line video.
For being rushed, it was okay. Though even if you're going to rush a project, I would still like to have seen you use the same voice for the same character (the Spy acting as the race announcer) throughout instead of mixing in stock voices with original dialogue.
Don't worry, you have a year to practice before the next saxxy awards. make sure to release some samples to get some feedback on your progress. If it helps, i can sub and critique all of your videos.
I have a few problems with this sfm 1 how do you forget to move the wheels 2 there is no way these cars would be able to go this fast and turn really fast with out the vehicle skidding And 3 there were some lighting errors Overall I think it’s a good idea but it should’ve taken more time to fix on some errors
I really should have taken the time to polish everything, but i felt pressured to get this out before the deadline for the 2015 Saxxy Awards. Fortunately I was able to get a lot of constructive feedback from it, and it was enough to launch me into projects with other SFM animators, such as Channel Chasers and A Baby Trouble. I was never really happy with this video, but it's also done so much for me that I can't imagine not having uploaded it. Now I'm finding myself polishing everything too hard, and I never release new videos because of it :/
“And now here they are, the most daredevil group of mercenaries to ever whirl thier wheels in the TF2 Races! Competing for the title of worlds wackiest mercenary!”
My only issue with this is that we never get to see the other, unique cars (namely RED soldier and Demo's tanks) in full. It's really annoying that I don't know exactly what those vehicles look like, as we never get a proper look at them. I know this is a late comment, and might not be helpful, but no-one else pointed this out, and I just had to get it off my chest.
If the video was rushed and not Saxxy quality, why even enter it in the Saxxies? I am tired of seeing people using the Saxxies as a trash can for half-finished first-time SFM videos. The "wacky races" concept was already done last year in "Mann Co Cup" Short category video by Vet for the Saxxies 2014. That one went for surreal charm. This one is just random. Rehashing the idea (including giving the Soldier a tank and letting him drink coffee) but stretching it out to 5 minutes of random stuff happening is not endearing it to me. Longer is not always better, especially if the animation is sub-par. Lots of filler scenes that go no-where, starting right at the beginning of the video with the scene in the garage. Nonsensical choice of background maps: Characters drive from a winter forest directly into a desert. Other people have already remarked in the animation quality and lightning issues. Terrible voice work on the Spy: bad microphone, and doesn't sound like Spy on top of that, so why not use a different model in the first place. At 1:48 minutes, why is that empty landscape even there?? Did you forgot to put the cars into it? We don't see cars driving through the frame, instead it cuts back to a front view of Soldier and Scout in the van. For a wacky races film, the camera work and camera angles were incredibly static and boring.
+Ultra Glitch It REALLY needed a lot more work, ESPECIALLY in the sound effects. It appeared completely unfinished. For an early attempt its great but it still shouldn't have been put as a Saxxy and should have been kept in the workshop a lot longer.
+Ultra Glitch I'm not saying it shouldn't have been released eventually, it just needs more work, and know that sound effects with the cars would work wonders, trust me on this, have you seen Star Wars lightsaber battles without sound? Most of the time they just look so stupid but with the sound effects it suddenly turns great. That's kind of what you need with the turning cars and such.
this is a great animation , and i can see alot of effort went into it but thier just sliding along on the road and the cars arent making any sound i get that with the engines humming in the background the whole time , some voices would be hard to understand but i would like to hear the engine sounds
some constructive critical: the animation was great, smooth movements and good facial expressions. I feel the background music could be a little better, as with all the sound in general. I think this is needless to say but the story doesn't make a lot of sense, but don't worry about it, something you can fix in the future. The last thing I have to say is I think you should identify characters with more than 1 hat, I know you did that with a few of them but if you could do that with all of them that would be great.
+Dizerel Reeves Thanks for your feedback. The animation isn't my best, I could a lot better now. I know how bad the sound and music is, so maybe if I do a remake then I'll try a lot harder in that area. I can sort of see what u mean by characters only being distinguished by 1 hat. But I didn't really want all of the characters to feel like they had all these cosmetics and everything (I obviously forgot about this with the Demoman).
Look man you should really consider adding in your animations, and maybe consider cleaning up your audio with audacity. But over all your animation looks great, and I could give you some tips on lighting and scene builds too if you would like the extra help. I am currently working on an entry for the 2016 saxxy awards, and I could show you some tricks that I have been using while I was making it. Oh and it's not finished, but I'm really really close to finishing it.
Here's a tip: don't comment this on a 7 month old video. This was a first attempt at a saxxy award and now I have actual links to other animators and voice actors.
ok so: you definitely copied the concept from rivalry rush the lighting was unrealistic at some times some parts were confusing the finish was honestly absurd and i felt like i missed a huge part because of it the invis car was cool demoman was way too coordinated on the spy for him i didnt like it imo
+SALSAAAAA The "wacky races with cars" was copied from last year's "Mann Co. Cup" Saxxy video by Vet, including giving the Soldier a tank. So it's already been done, but better.
Everything WRONG with video: [TF2 SFM] Roadside Mayhem 1. Rocket boost under BLU Soldier's truck does not exist. 2. RED Scout only exist at the short time. 3. RED Sniper cannot stabbed as fast with his arm and hand, because their windows were too small to stab BLU Engineer's face. 4. RED Demoman didn't turn around with his broken bottle glass to smash it RED Spy's head. 5. Tank is not supposed to be fast and good turning. Tank's wheels is not the same as other trucks or cars. RED Soldier's tank needed four-wheel drive. 6. BLU Soldier's Shovel isn't enough to cut through RED Medic's neck while boosting their BLU truck. 7. RED Demoman's big cannon is not very fast rate. Cannon gun can only shots within 180 miles per hour. 8. Blur has a tons Total WRONG: 8
i would recommend you to not use motion editor on the camera; The car wheels are not moving whitch makes it look like the cars are just floating; There is sothing really wrong with the map transition at 2:16; The concept is good, Throught it is a copy of Mann Co Cup and the animation on the caracters is pretty good. In overall: its okay at best. 5/10.
+Skull Video Yeh, I really doubted this would get into the finals. The shading was something I just couldn't control. School interfered so many times that the animation is kind of bad in some areas.
Too much angry criticism, honestly this was ur first attempt a Saxxy, and it's better then like 500% other much more shittier saxxy's made by bumbling 12 year olds. Sure it's not that great, but it's somewhat smooth animation and good storyline. Keep up the work and don't let 15 year olds whom think there god tier critics destroy your overall view of ur work
I like it, the story and the resources you used were limited but you did it, I like it and you can count with my thumbs up... But one thing, in next animation you will make, I recommend you, one, try to remove the static from the voice, (by the way, the voice was very good) and second, fix the sound effects/soundtrack... it's awful, sorry about it, but it is... you could have done better, I am not talking about the music, I am talking about the cars sounds, the soundtrack still goign while the voice is starting, and much other stuff... I am going to participate in saxxy awards 2016, if you are going to make another animation be sure to contact me, I would love to help you as much as I can ;)
I mean, it was pretty rushed and could've been better, but it wasn't too bad. Not Saxxy quality, but it wasn't awful quality either. Good job on the work.
Proud to be #300 of your subscribers loved this and cya soon also I'm a real beginner maybe you could teach me to be as good as you steamuser:Musiqpyre (I'm the original one with a red pyro picture he is holding a flare gun)
Not bad, but as everyboody says, you gotta practice. And the one things killed the video was the voice acting, not the voice itself but how it sounds, not clean, lower than the rest and definively not a Spy or either french impression. But keep on the work :)
The animations and some cameras are not the best.. you know this won't win but nice try! I'm sure that in some months you'll make some really good videos. Keep it up, dude, you're in the right way!
It was a good concept and you could tell the idea behind every part was good. it just... needed improvements. better animation and such. good idea. meh delivery.
Yeah, the shading could use a bit of work. for a few of the characters it reminded me of how one looks when they stand in front of a green screen and are lighted from everywhere, then is put into a slightly darker place than the lighting on the person has, if that makes any sense.
not being nasty but the cameras look as if they were animated while the scene was playing in some area, that's fine for rough work but could do with a little refining
I think people keep comparing every new sfm animation that comes out to some of the best animators out there and they always complain when its not as good if not better. Go watch a few FNAF sfm fan animations and come back and you will see that the animation quality in this video was pretty damn good compared to most. You can really tell when someone puts a lot of effort into something and that really shows here.
