From 1987 until the summer of 1989, reruns of Search For Tomorrow aired in late nights on the USA Network. The cable network aired the episodes from the first three years (1982-1985) of the NBC run.
I bawled my eyes out at the end of this episode when it first aired. It still touches me today. So many characters I wish could have been here at the end but the stories moved along. We're all searching for tomorrow.
Thanks for sharing...back in the day, WQTV (now Ion affiliate WBPX) was Boston's clearinghouse for pre-empted network fare, as they also carried daytime Family Ties reruns, Super Password, Another World, Card Sharks, Press Your Luck and the short-lived Double Talk (which ended its run the week before SFT did, as I recall). It's also worth noting that since WBZ chose to run their local chat show People Are Talking in the 1 PM slot, they moved Days of Our Lives up an hour to 2, and in order to keep the two NBC soaps from competing against each other, WQTV aired AW an hour earlier, at 1.
We'd never got to watch the final episode of Search for Tomorrow, as our Ardmore-Ada TV market had only two VHF TV stations and no UHF stations on the air. And if one UHF station were to exist as a UHF NBC station on the air in our Ardmore-Ada market, the entire NBC Daytime lineup would air as scheduled. And then NBC Boston affiliate WBZ-TV (Now CBS owned) was not a carrier to Another World and Search for Tomorrow which Procter & Gamble Producrtons produces, as independent WQTV aired both soaps and other shows never cleared by these Boston stations. Back in 1952-53 my parents bought a TV. After it was set up my mother turned it on and the first program we watch was the opening of Search for Tomorrow. I was 3 or 4 years and it was my introduction to television. My mother watched SFT everyday it was on. At 3 or 4 I had other things to do.
Even though the 80's was a really good decade for daytime soap operas...a lot of soaps were cancelled. Love of Life, Texas, Another Life, Edge of Night, Search For Tomorrow, Capitol, Ryan's Hope.
I remember watching this, the final episode. I was never really a fan of SFT, nor did I really watch it. It's sad that it was on CBS for so long, then due to low ratings died a miserable death on NBC. I watched it just because it was the seminal episode.
