Nice video, it's cool to see more people showing some respect to the SG-1000. I would say the biggest issue with most of these games though, is they never came to the Master System because they weren't really SEGA games, most hailing from PCs, in fact. SEGA is listed as the publisher for all of them, but that's actually because prior to the Mega Drive, Sega didn't allow third parties to publish for them. They would liscense the ports, then they'd either develop them themselves, or subcontract another developer to make them. The Castle was originally a PC game, and its sequel (Which was really more of just a remixed version, the gameplay is identical) that came to the NES under the name Castlequest, so it was never going to be SEGA's version of a Prince saving a Princess. Orguss was an anime liscence, which always makes remaking things much harder, even back then. The Black Onyx was originally a PC game, but its console port is a massive landmark creation, and I would have loved to see it on the Master System, even if I understand why it never came to it. Perhaps using Yuji Naka's 3D scrolling code that was developed for Phantasy Star 1? Chack ''n' Pop was ported to basically everything in that era, though in this case, I'd argue the SG-1000 port was actually better than the Famicom one, as it followed the arcade level designs. It's particularly interesting given its connection to Bubble Bobble, especially since the creator of Bubble Bobble only joined Taito because he thought their games in 1983 sucked and wanted to revitalize the company. H.E.R.O was originally a 2600 game, but it's definitely one of the best games for that hardware. Xerion's originally an arcade game, and its Famicom version looks much better than the SG-1000's, definitely a showcase of the Famicom's superior graphical hardware to the SG-1000. I think Gulkave is the biggest game missing here, as it's exclusive to the SG-1000 and MSX (The two had extremely similar hardware), developed by Compile, who Sega hired quite a bit even into the Master System era. Though taking ports into consideration, I'd also nominate Rock'n'Bolt, which is a wonderful puzzle game, albeit one also on the C64.

Wow, what a wonderful comment to read! Thank you for taking time to watch the video and write such an insightful comment. You make an excellent point and one I didn't think about with most of these games not being from Sega! I'll have to look up Gulkave, I'm not sure I've heard of that one. Honestly though, what an awesome comment. It's so great to connect with others who share a passion for gaming and have a wealth of knowledge. Happy gaming my friend!

WHAT?!? I know I'm not Sega-savvy, but I'm shocked that there is a system I didn't even know about. Crazy! Granted, in the 80s I had pretty limited access to consoles. I did play an Atari a few times, and several computer games, but other than that I only ever had access to an NES. I am really impressed at how decent these games look! I was born in '83, so I'm always interested to see games from that era 😀 I had no idea something like Black Onyx existed that early! @8:59 wow! I had no idea Bubble Bobble had a previous game? (You said precursor, so I assumed they were related... but I suppose theft is also an option. I hope not, because I like Bubble Bobble, so I hope they aren't thieves) Exerion is insane! Star Fox for the SNES was definitely influenced by the backgrounds on this one!

Haha, now I feel GOOD about dropping some knowledge for you. It's fun discovering new games, so it's even cooler that you discovered a new console! These games are as old as you are, now THAT'S OLD! Lol, just kidding pal, we're young at heart. Black Onyx is incredible. I have a whole historical video game book and there is a dedicated section just for it. It was remade I believe on the GameBoy Color and I believe that version is in English. Yes, Bubble Bobble is a precursor!!! Here's the direct text from the article about it: " "Mitsuji constantly tried to think of new ways to make the game better than it was before, saying to have lost sleep while trying to figure out how he could improve it. He often worked on holidays and late at night to come up with new ideas for the game and to perfect it. Several of the enemies were taken from Chack'n Pop (1983), an older Taito game that is often considered a precursor to Bubble Bobble. Mitsuji intended the game to be played by couples, leading to the creation of the multiple endings, which differ based on player performance." And yes, Exerion looks amazing, I can't believe the stuff they did back then!! Thanks for watching buddy.

I always forget this console exists, and I'm surprised everytime i see it. It kinda reminds me of the japan exclusive psx as well, which is pretty rare nowadays!

It's a pretty obscure console, at least for Western audiences. It's quite cool though and I'm surprised what they accomplished on it along with some of the games it produced. Thanks for watching!

Borderline actually looks a fun take on Dig Dug in some ways, and I’d love to try this one. The Castle also looks like one that could’ve easily gotten an SMS release with enhanced visuals. Girls Garden looks unique for sure, and very vibrant. I never knew H.E.R.O. was released on the SG-1000! I thought that was a cancelled game altogether, but apparently it actually released here! Great video as always, TC!

I never thought of Borderline as a DigDug type of game but I can totally see it now. The Castle looks like a solid platforming game but man I really wanted Girls Garden on the SMS along with Exerion. I couldn't believe the parallax effect it had. HERO looks like another banger and there are some very well done games for the SG 1000. I liked your story of how you played it as a kid when you were young. Thanks for watching buddy!

Drol literally means shit in Dutch. Unfortunate title. Zippy Race is a favourite of mine on the system. HERO is also great.

LOL Oh goodness, I get a language lesson too. That is quite unfortunate. Some others were telling me Zippy Race is quite good. HERO look incredible! Thanks again for watching.

The SC-3000 runs the same games and does have a rare European PAL variant. I have the French SC-3000H with a lot of games. I is great if you like early video games.

I do love history and exploring early video games. Some of these games look really good and I'm surprised they didn't get remade. Thanks for watching buddy!

I've only played SG-1000 games through emulation. When I played Orguss the first time, I also felt some Transbot vibe. From your list, I like to play Drol and H.E.R.O., but also Gulkave, Golgo 13, Sega-Galaga, and Bomb Jack (Played this one hundreds of hours on my ZX Spectrum). Luckily, Bank Panic and Ninja Princess (The Ninja) got SMS ports.

Orguss is super similar to Transbot! Drol and HERO are excellent choices to try out. I don’t think I’ve heard of Bomb Jack I’ll have to try it out if you’ve put that many hours into it. There’s a lot of hidden games on the SG 1000, I’m thankful to it as it launched Sega for home consoles! Thanks for watching.

Interesting console for sure! I've never seen one in person, let alone knew that it came out before the SMS! Not something that I would go after personally (Because I have no nostalgia for it), but it's cool to know about it's history! Great video and keep up the good work!

It's wild that Sega had a console from the early 80s! It's also something that is pretty impressive in my opinion. I don't have any nostalgia for it, but I do enjoy history so it was fun to learn about it. Thanks for watching buddy!

There were some pretty cool games that I discovered from looking into the SG-1000 Library. I was surprised at what they could do with that little system. I know SG-1000 games work on the Japanese Master System, but I don't think they work on others. Thanks for watching!
@Prime-1111X
@Prime-1111X 8 месяцев назад
@TigerChainsawVideoGames Correct. The original Japanese Master System version was a cosmetic remake of the Mark III. Then, when the Master System became popular overseas, they've changed the cartridge port. I think someone made a cartridge adapter.
