You can say Master Systrem "crushed" the Nes, if you don't count the informal market. because actual Nintendo products werent licensed at the time, so it was all those nintendo-clones, but it was a huge market, with many a bootleg carts. I never owned an actual Master System, and I only knew 2 person that did, but bootleg nintendos were everywhere. That said, interesting to note, like in that Sonic and Street Fighter mentioned cases, lots of these games were ported down from Sega Genesis/Mega Drive or Game Gear.
Great video! I recently heard good things about Choplifter, so I downloaded it. I prefer Air Rescue, but Choplifter is as good. The first time that I've played it, I had the same question about the opening screen, when the helicopter starts shooting at people.
I loved putting parting gift on the little bottle characters that only lasted one turn and watch tem doing ridiculous damage while stealing the enemies weapons
Everything... Its a great game.. It was made by the same team who did AC Odyssey.. Which is why Odyssey is so good.. yet different because both Immortals and AC odyssey were made by a different division of Ubisoft (Ubi Quebec.. I think) to their regular AC team.. Its just a shame Immortals 2 was cancelled, even though it was really well received and is still loved
Hey friend this is another video that brings back one of my fondest videogame memories, as Choplifter was my second cartdrige (first was Alex Kidd in Miracle World), and I played it A LOT in my childhood. THe third level is indeed very challenging and the fact there is no continue makes it a hard game but it´s so well done that its fun to play until today. You didnt mention in the video, that the pilot can bail out with a parachute after being hit (by pressing button 2 many times before crashing) so it spares one life in the dead counting.Another easter egg is the Superman that appears if you hit 10 projectiles, which boosts the hostages speed.. Very cooL! Keep those Master System videos coming! :)
Nice review! I'm always amazed how they were able to get those kind of graphics out of that system compared to NES, and yet they weren't as popular over here! I don't have any nostalgia for that system since I didn't own it as a kid, but I can see why you liked that system so much! Great video and keep up the good work!
The SMS certainly produced some beautiful games with Choplifter leading the way! It's a very solid game overall, but if you don't have any love for shooters or the SMS, you can skip it! It's a fun one though for me. Thanks for watching buddy!
My ranking would be, from worst to best: 3, i don’t like doc robots or most of the endgame really 1, it’s not the best game, but i have nostalgia for it y’know? 2, i like it, it’s not my favorite, don’t really have much to say 4, i’m one of those people who thinks the 4,5 and 6 era are generally better than the og trilogy, i find 4 the weakest of the second trilogy, it’s good, but i feel 5 and 6 improve upon it 6, i like both 6 and 5 almost equally but if i had to choose a second place, i’d go with 6, i always play it after 5 though, so it’s possible it’s burnout that makes me like it less 5, i think this game has the best level gimmicks with the least amount of beginners traps, best soundtrack to me too That’s my ranking, but it’s nice to hear other opinions
I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on each game and the reasons for your placements of them. The entire series is very good and it's awesome to see different opinions. No matter the order, they are all very solid games that are quite fun. Awesome order, and thanks for watching!
Thanks for the review! I've been thinking about looking into getting a Maater System. Watching some of your reviews will help me decide if it's worth the investment.. :)
The Master System is very underrated and there's a ton of great games to play on it! It would be very cool if you got a Master System and Choplifter. Thanks for watching and happy gaming!
@@TigerChainsawVideoGames I'm thinking about getting the Master System Converter...I think it's called?. Goes into the Genesis.. Do you know if i can use my Genesis controller while playing Master System games in the converter?
I did play Choplifter on the Apple II a little at school, but that's it. I played a lot more of Sopwith on the old IBM 5150. It was definitely not as good as Choplifter, especially that SMS version! That looks slick! @3:18 rofl, I didn't even notice! Poor civilians. RIP. I love that you can just tap up a little while rescuing hostages to glitch out the ground attacks, lol This game looks fun! I'm sure modern gamers might not like it, but someone who appreciates retro games, like myself, can see the awesomeness in a game like this! The game over music is a lot of fun. The game songs I catch myself humming most are: Punch Out, Contra, Dr Mario, and Wario's Woods 😀(though that last one is my ring tone, so that probably puts it in my head) 6.5 seems fair :-)
If there was anyone who was going to play Choplifter on the Apple II I thought it might be you! Even cooler though you played it at school! Yeah, I'm not sure what the chopper was doing but those poor civilians look like they wanted help, not to be blown into bits! That certainly is a cool trick with the lifting off and then touching down to avoid enemy ground attacks. There is a lot of fun to be had in Choplifter and I appreciate it for what it is on the SMS. The music is very good overall even if the Game Over screen is a bit extreme. Thanks for watching buddy!
Choplifter was my first SMS cartidge. We got it along with the system. Played the heck out of it those first few weeks. It was one of the games that made me want an SMS. Great review!
That is very cool that it is your first SMS game! Heck of a game to be paired with your system at first. It's a very good game overall and one that showoffs how beautiful the SMS can look. Thanks for watching!
And here I thought the SMS King of Europe knew every secret! It's a nice little trick and helps a lot to avoid ground troops. Thanks for watching, Oli. Always great to hear from you. I hope your Summer is going great.
Thanks for this review! My local game shop has a copy, but I've been holding off because I wasn't sure how good it was. I also appreciate you using the full review scale; there are a ton of 6-7 score games out there that are quite fun especially if you enjoy the genre or are not bothered by the particular issues the game has. In this case it looks like something I'd really enjoy and will snag soon.
I hope you get yourself a copy of Choplifter! It's a very solid experience and one that all Master System owners should play. I'm glad you enjoyed the review and the scoring scale. There are so many 6-7 range games that I've had a blast with. Thanks for watching and happy gaming!
Nice review. I also felt like it was a fun game that needed more content. More levels, bosses, and a story would have made this a "cant miss" game. I could not finish the first six levels until I realized you can fly backwards through the James Bond villain lair level with ease.
I agree, I was really hoping for some more content instead of the repeating levels with different backgrounds. I love the idea of having a boss or two in the game. Yes, the trick of flying backward through the cave to avoid being damaged by the spitting lava is a classic! That cave level was so difficult when I was a kid. Thanks for watching!
No I haven't! I really enjoyed Choplifter on the SMS and Choplifter II on the GamBoy but I haven't gotten around to the SNES version which I need to. Thanks for watching buddy, awesome to hear you like Choplifter!
In all honesty, mega man 5 is my favorite in the series I know it didn’t bring anything new, but it has good level design, fun little gimmicks for the levels, less beginner traps, and good music
Each Mega Man game on the NES is a very good game, so I can't disagree that Mega Man 5 is a good game! To me, it was just one of the weaker entries compared to the rest, but I won't fault anyone for saying it's their favorite. Glad you enjoyed Mega Man 5. Thanks for watching this review!
Whoa, I never knew about this soft lock issue. I just looked it up! What a bummer, well if you move onto the other games in the series, they are all better. Happy Gaming, and thanks for watching!
@@TigerChainsawVideoGames I’m kinda marathoning the classic Megaman games so I’ll come back to Megaman 1 later. Locking the player out of the final stage because they overlooked the Magnet Beam was vintage poor game design.
@@AstonishingRed Yeah that's a fatal flaw, and it would make me quit too, especially having to redo those tough levels. I recently replayed all six Mega Man games too and reviewed them all. I'd love for you to come back and share your thoughts on the individual games once you beat them and compare them to my reviews on the games. Best of luck!
I'll always love the first Wonder Boy only because back in like '90 I would play it at my mates house and he would always have a melt down over not making jumps properly and hogging more turns lol.
Really interested to see this list! lol I wasn't into horror until I was about 11 or 12 so I missed out on horror NES games @1:56 okay I love the dancing goopy skeleton looking dudes lol I would definitely like 'Monster Party'! @6:22 lol you say it like maybe it happens too much 😂 @9:31 okay wait... I feel like I've played this one?!? Ghoul School looks pretty cool too! @12:55 LOL I can't get over her name 🤣 woah 129 room levels? I'd probably want to try Monster Party, Zombie Nation and Ghoul School. Really cool video TC! It's fun to look back on older games and see where it all started!
That skeleton dances better than I do! Haha, it's hard to keep that torch burning... If you've played Zombie Nation I'd be really impressed and you'd get some serious cred with me! You mean to tell me you didn't go to a school named Samantha PomPom? Lol Those are some excellent choices for horror titles. I love horror games but they sure do scare the crap out of me now, at least the current ones do. These ones are baby horror games haha. Thanks for watching pal! : )
@@TigerChainsawVideoGames I'm not sure if I played it much but I def think I did some. It looks way too familiar lol I must've had a friend who owned it or maybe my dad did.
Dragon Crystal was released on Game Gear in North America. It is for all practical intents and purposes an 8-bit console skin over the classic computer game Rogue.
I thought Built To Win had a very cool concept of moving up with car classes, too bad about the soundtrack. After making this list, I really want to get Eliminator Boat Duel. It looks super rad and I love that it has three different perspectives for views. Looks very polished. Thanks for watching.
Ooh, I like a variety of racing games, so this sounds like it's gonna be good! I don't think I ever played Rad Racer 2 on NES, but I think I played it on an arcade (probably in the late 90s though, so not when it was new) Bigfoot looks awesome! I've never played it, but I'll have to give it a go! Days of Thunder is another one I'd never seen. Looks very innovative! Normally with a movie tie-in, it tends to be not very innovative, so I'm impressed! (I mean, did you ever play Top Gun on the NES? Yuck) Galaxy 5000 looks awesome! Another one I'd never heard of! Very cool! I think I did play Super Cars once at a friend's house, but then we switched back to Off Road, because even though the graphics were worse in Off Road, you could see the track, and could plan where to go, lol. I'm sure this one would be fun if you memorized the tracks. Too bad Monster Truck Rally isn't great. I'll take your advice and pass 😀 Eliminator Boat Duel! I'd forgotten about this one! My sister and I did a cartridge swap with someone at school for a weekend, and my sister and I played this a few times before we had to swap back. I had totally forgotten about that weekend 😀 Bill Elliott's Nascar Challenge looks a lot like the MSDOS racers I played, haha Excellent list, as always!
I think the Rad Racer series is generally a pretty solid experience. Bigfoot looks so much fun and as a kid I would have died for this game. Days of Thunder looks very unique and powerful for graphics for the NES. I still need to watch the movie though ha! Yes, I've heard of how terrible the Top Gun game is, man what a bummer! I thought Galaxy 5000 looked super cool too, I like the theme of it. Super Cars.... wow does this one look BADDDDD I purposely put the glitches in just to show off what a crappy game it looks like haha. That's crazy that you played it. Monter Truck Rally... ugh what a disaster! Eliminator Boat Duel looks to be one of the best games from this list. I love that they have three different perspectives and that's so cool that it sparked a memory for you! Yes!!! MS DOS games!!! It struck me as one of them too. I miss those days. Thanks for watching buddy!!
Sweet list, I’ve played a handful of these but not Bigfoot, I’d like to try that! I remember Days of Thunder was one I played early on, quite a few top down and isometric racers in here. Great vid Seth!
Bigfoot looks really cool and I'm not just saying that cuz he is my favorite truck haha. Days of Thunder looks really good for graphics, but I've never watched the movie. I need to change that. Thanks for watching buddy!
Nice list! You can see that I'm not a racing fan by the fact that I barely know any of the titles you've shown! My favorite Monster Truck is and will always will be Grave Digger! My favorite NES Racing game is Off Road so any games that have the feature of winning money and improving your car by buying new parts will always be the ones I will go to so that Bike game looks right up my alley! I still have the same attitude towards more recent racing games which is why Need For Speed Underground hasn't been dethroned as my favorite racing game of all time! Great video and keep up the good work!
My dad always really liked Grave Digger. I love the look of the truck, but for me nothing will ever beat the original Bigfoot!! I do like racing games where you can upgrade the parts and tires to improve your car or bike, those are always satisfying. Ohhh the Need for Speed series is one I need to play sometime, I don't really have any experience with it. Thanks for watching buddy!!
