It's always been a personal critique I've had of most of the newer Mario games that the bosses are only Bowser, Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings. I'd like to see more variety like Goomboss or Petey or King Bo-bomb, especially since the wonder seeds could have given us more interesting takes on those bosses as well.
Yeah it would have been fun to see them do something like in Yoshis Island, where a regular enemy gets super via magic and now you have to fight them in a different way.
the only character in this game who has a unique character trait is yoshi with his flutter jump and the fact he eats enemy's instead of just stomping them or picking them up (though he can still do these things) I heard nabbit can also turn items into more coins but I'm not sure because I didn't play as him
I can't fault you for taking as long to get to the first boss as you did, because I wanted to find every level in every world. It took me an hour and a half to get to the first castle
I like the concept of the Bowser Jr boss fights, but he shouldn't have been the ONLY boss you ever fight! Just imagine how a brawl with Kamek, Navel Piranha, or Gooper Blooper using Wonder Effects would play out!
Or Kamek supersizes the new enemies like the Wubba and turn him into Mario's take on the Yellow Devil from Megaman, the boss of world 5 The Outmaway kicking enemy as Bashmaster 2.0 from Tropical Freeze except a boxing Yeti, boss of world 2 The Condart being Storm Eagle in Organic form, boss of the Petal Isles The Raarggh enemy being a Lion Cerberus on fire like the Fire Lion miniboss from Kirby, the boss of world 6 The Bulrush standing up and being a Minotaur with two big axes, the boss of world 1 with Bowser Jr using him as a Ramming machine. An Anglefish being a Great White Shark, the boss of world 3. The Armadillo enemy becoming a Mechanized Panzer Tank boss of world 4..
Get used to seeing Bowser Jr everywhere, the only sour point of this Wonderful game. Galaxy, NSMB DS, 3D World and Odyssey to an extent didn't have this issue. Cosmic Hoppos Wonder section is a reference to Space Zone from Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins well stage 2 with Mario floating over the freaking Sun, no Rosalina cameo unfortunately. Bounce Bounce Bounce, Bounce on left side of Giant Hoppo to go right and right side to go left, but with multiplayer that level is utter hell. Game Over in World 1 at least it wasn't World 1-1, this truly is the dark souls of platformers, this is why you do the Special World late into the game when you have a good amount of lives. Greed was indeed the enemy so I'll cut them some slack for that terrible fate.
I agree that the bosses are sadly one of this game's few weak points (except for the final boss which I'm willing to defend). I'm happy to see Bowser Jr being given more to do but I think having a different boss like Petey Piranha, King Boo, King Bob-Omb or some new original minions for Bowser being souped up on Wonder power like Jr was at the end of each worlds would've been more fun and interesting
They do have enemies turn giant in some levels with the wonder effect. But they are more like obstacles to avoid rather than an boss fight. Like King Boo for example. Why couldn't they be the boss?
New Super Mario Bros on the DS actually had some pretty interesting boss fights, despite also having Bowser Jr be an recurring boss. Feels like Wonder kinda just gave up on trying to have interesting boss fights except for the Bowser fight at the end... some worlds don't even HAVE boss fights. So weird.
I'd say mario world kind of has a half hub world in that yellow switch, donut plauns, vanilla secrets, twin bridges, forest fortress, and choco island all share a map screen
And thus, Troll Toad made it through the Pipe Rock Plateau, with no new personality traits in sight. Whilst finding other ways to fill the void left from his passion for trolling being gone, these would only be temporary. With the adventure only just beginning, Troll Toad had plenty of time to find some personality trait to distinguish himself from the generic bland boring Toads everyone laughed at in the modern Paper Mario games
Ahhhhh now I see why people complained about the boss fights: if it's JUT Bowser Jr then I agree. They should have been WAYYY more ambitious with the bosses, cause Just Bowser Jr when we already know who it is isn't gonna suffice. Maybe Miyamoto pulled an Adam and didn't authorize any other bosses besides father-son koopas. But for goodness sakes, a PIRAHNA wraps around these held castles! Might as well have had Jr just fly around the cas- oh wait, Mario 3 reference. Miyamoto wouldn't authorize.
Speaking of 3D Land, gotta love how the Koopalings have yet to get a proper appearance as bosses in a 3D Mario game. Restricted to 2D games. Which is odd yet annoying.
@@jaretco6423I feel as though they wouldn't be as restricted by a 3D setting and there's more to do. Since every 2D boss with them feels the same. Fans will still complain regardless.
@TKG785 Yeah. Same with bringing back Boom Boom. But that guy made it to 2D and 3D Mario games. And than they made her girlfriend counterpart; Pom Pom; who wasn't in an 2D Mario game still. Unless you wonna count Mario Maker 2.
Honestly I was hoping the WONDER effects for Bowser Jr might....transform him into the vehicle transformations from Yoshis Island as a cool callback. He could be a train, a helicopter, a submarine, a mole machine...thing! If we're doing weird transformations that game is where my mind goes to immediately.
This level doesn't have a check point, which invalidates that point, so the only difference is that it takes 2 seconds longer to restart the level when you get a game-over. The "artificial pressure" you're referring to is just actually the requirement of developing skill at the game...? This isn't the 80's, getting a game over isn't sending you back to world 1...this is a Mario game that saves after every "relatively short" level. Having to replay a singular level again isn't the "burdensome" task people act like it is, it's mildly annoying at worst depending on the level. In older Mario games, dying in general would've forced you to re-grab those collectibles...because the challenge would've been to do it "without" dying. But 4 people dying and losing 4 times the amount of lives isn't exactly the common situation.
There are 4 bosses, you’ve beaten 1 of them and 2 of the others are pretty much the same. A bit lame Rather deal with a small number of underwhelming bosses than a ton of tedious obnoxious bosses shoved into the levels themselves…
Then what's the point with bosses in general if they break the pace in any platformer for that matter or they are underwhelming, this is Nintendo's flagship title and I expect better from them, this is the reason I will not return to this game, yeah everything is great in Art, Animations, Enemy design but it could be so much more.
