In this video, we install the newly designed shackle flip system for the Tacoma. There's so much droop that you can get with this system and it's amazing! You may ask why I'm doing this so make sure you watch Part 1 because if you watch closely, I damaged those rear leaf spring hangers which means it was time to engineer a better system.

I like that shackle mount kit. I currently have Archive Garage rear shock mounts. That let me use 13 inch travel shocks.

Awesome! Which shocks do you have?

@KFloTacoma I have the Bilstein 6125, 25-187748. They're 13 inch travel reservoir shocks. They're great, but I need better leaf springs for when it's loaded down for my camping trips.

Thanks for the input on the shocks. Which leaf springs are you using?

@KFloTacoma I have stock springs right now. Theyre ok. But my camper and loaded down with camping gear it's almost fully bottomed out. I'm looking into the Archive Garage heavy duty springs for next year when it warms up for camping again.

Dude, I think you would like the adjustability of the air bags - especially if you drive with your truck fully unloaded from time to time. You'll see how this video series progresses once I get to the airbag design portion.

I noticed the rust on the frame, with all the work you've been doing, hopefully you'll clean and do some preventions on the frame..

Oh yea, that's definitely part of future work to do. I'm planning on doing some frame gusseting as well

@@KFloTacoma thank you that one works do you happen to know about how much travel is gained over all like I know archive’s is 12+?

My goal with this project is to get 10+ suspension travel in less steps (which means less money/work) using stock mounts. In order to achieve the 12+ travel for Archive Garage (or for any shackle mount systems, even mine), you'll also need upgraded shock mounts as well as limit straps, bump stops, brake lines etc. If you scroll down to the description of the Hammer Hangers from Archive Garage under shackle options: "-Reusing stock shackles (3.4") and OEM rubber bushings are totally fine up to ~10" travel". 10 inches of travel is plenty, check out Dirt Lifestyle's Landcruiser - those shocks only has 10" of travel.

I heard that all leaf springs that are designed for the stock ‘inverted style’ shackles are designed specifically for that use. Flipping the shackles would also require leaf springs designed specifically for that type of shackle. Any truth to that?

Leaf springs are designed to be loaded at the eyes of the leaf springs. If you look at the leaf spring design (check out my video before this), it's literally just a stack of curved spring steel. If the shackle is on top or underneath, the leaf spring is still loaded in the same mounting eyes. The shackle configuration does move the roll center, higher or lower... The same argument that those guys have can go to the same extent as me running with 35" tires or anyone doing any type of modification really. At the end of the day, if those guys don't present any type of research documents and statistical analysis - they're just basing they're arguments on "feelings". FYI, this video was shot back in July, I've been 4-Wheeling on this shackle flip and it's awesome
