I've come to appreciate Shaheen so much more now, even having mained him for a while in T7. He's fun to style on people with, but I can also see how players might not want to put in so much work to get the same level of damage another character could just shit out for almost nothing. But when you get in someone's head with Shaheen, it's a beautiful feeling to watch them crumble.😊
One thing i liked about Shaheen was he was a new generation Tekken character that plays pure Tekken like he was around since Tekken 1. Hes got your usual pokes, df 1 and hop kick and even the slide. He may seem boring to most but hes very fundamental and teaches you how to play the game well.
I think that's the funniest part everyone complains about new tekken characters that "aren't tekken" and then when they see a genuine TEKKEN character with nothing but df1 jabs and low pokes they say they're boring and should be removed from the game. Just like same thing happened with kazumi
@Sammysapphira I was about to comment something like that. "This game is full anime" but Shaheen is boring lol Probably why Namco has kept him though.
@@HelterSeltzer_the_one they definitely went more practical than aesthetic with him. His redesign is cooler though in my opinion but yeah he ain't the flashiest guy on the roster
@@exiledhebrew1994 I used to main Kazumi, she was really fun. Well you could play Shaheen just because you can't be arsed to install "no Law voice/mute Law" mods or can't handle Lee just frames or execution.
Wierd. Thats just what i wrote on reddit a day ago. Its always a nice thing to find someone with your own opinion in the internet. Make him slide on oil
Yh but he's the first character to have 2D style charge attacks, where you can cancel it after certain attacks. Paul's incomplete somersault takes forever to charge up.
Shaheen is the most Tekken character in Tekken 8 imo. He's a combination of every fundamental tool and one of every unique mechanic e.g mix up stance, slide, guard break. He is the perfect gateway into learning Tekken holistically, learning every character. If you learn how to use Shaheen slide or guard break that WILL translate to others.
i dont play T8 yet, but i felt from the footage ive seen that shaheen finally got what he deserved in this game. im happy for the character, even frame thinks hes cool now. ill definitely pick him up when i start my T8 journey.
I just learned that, if you cancel his u+1, you can use fc df+4 df to go into stealth step. Do fc df+4 df db to go into crouch instead. Do it fast enough, you can do a slide somewhere in there. He has has fc df+2 as a safe (iirc) mid. Pretty neat!
@@mm-yq5dt Tbf I'm also in that discord because I tried him in Tekken 7. Doubt all of them are mains and probably 1/15 are actually active. I do like Shaheen however and was just joking.
Then that's a disadvantage for you. If you don't know a characters moves or their gimmicks and you face a good player of that unused character, then you're in trouble 😂.
@@Therealtrilldillup until the highest of high ranks, mishimas are pretty braindead. In low-mid ranks (where 95% of players play) mishimas are very easy and effective.
so go on and play them lol, I play mishimas and non mishimas and I can easily say they are harder to play at all ranks. And also every character has cheese if you dont know them
@@SzyszuPL i main Reina but I also play Jack, Kazuya, and Shaheen In low rank playing poke characters is hard but playing mixup characters very very easy
I’ve put about 30 hrs into Shaheen in T8 at first I thought he was bad but then I realized that I wasn’t using all of his moves he’s really dope and the costume is fire 🔥🔥🔥
Many of his strings (df4,1 or 2,3 or f2,3 for example) are exactly long enough to charge Al Ghul master. Meaning you can chip in heat an just throw it out when they are blocking high already. Also at wall Charge d,u2 wall staggers when not in heat meaning and its minus 13 so 2,3 charge d,u2 is a frame trap loop at wall. Wall splatting df4,3 into charge d,u2 for resplat hits real hard. His ws3,snkc loops require a low juggle. Common route is launch, 3,snkc,fc4,1 db2,snkc,ws3,snkc,ws3,snkc,ws3,3 fc2,(buffer)ff3 or RA 78-125 dmg
I don't understand why more realistic move, not over the top exagerated ones are considered boring. Moves don't have to be flashy as hell to be fun or feel like they have a real impact (i mean the thing when you can "feel" the punch by watching it). I liked Shaheen in Tekken 7, wasn't boring at all for me. Tekken 8 its basically the first time i'm seeing how he is in this game so can't judge. But doesn't look boring at all to me.
Waow characters can have mid-high mixups in tekken 8 in a sane and a reasonable fashion and not just have them from neutral where they also get extremely strong lows for no reason? Didnt think that was possible i thought a counterhit 40+ damage low that's not launch punishable that you can access in neutral was actually required in characters like these yes I'm talking about king what the hell is up with ff n 2
That HAS to be the best low in the game. They took the best properties of AK and Kings and combined them and now we have this abomination of a move. Honestly wtf were they smoking when designing T8 King LOL.
@@Farhan-ny8wt 55 damage on counterhit range 3+ low that's only -13 for a character that was specifically designed around not having strong lows (db3+4 is also only -14 btw)
@Farhan-ny8wt oh yeah but you know throws were nerfed in this game he needs it -is what I would say if throws were nerfed this game and not buffed he clearly doesn't need it
Shaheen is my main so far. I know why he didn’t catch but I thought he was solid in T6. I thought jack8 would replace my favorite character in gigas, but he is no gigas.
Shaheen main since T7 overall. And I just like the honest fundamentals. He was a bit boring overall and I agree with the points listed. But all I wanted was a glow up for our boii. And we got it!
Just the addition of uf1 and the cancel makes his mixup way more fun in my opinion. Slide and follow up into uf1 cancel into whatever mix up or ws1 ch check is a super fun loop
I just picked him up 2 days ago. Finally got his stealth cancel down lol I’m a Leo main and I enjoy using unpopular characters and he’s really cool to me. I don’t see why everyone says he’s boring.
your t8 videos have been so good. Keep it up! Never thought i'd try this char, but he genuinely looks so much deeper and more interesting than I thought
I like this character a lot, his outfits are cool without trying too hard, his moves are cool without trying too hard, hes...generically cool. The problem with Shaheen is that he's so far down on the list for a lot of people, I'd play Bryan if Kings didnt exist, and Steve if Bryan didnt exist, And Drag if Steve Didnt exist, and then finally Shaheen if none of them did. I wish they would've made him a boxer, or a thai fighter, or a wrestler, combatant ideas that already have a strong following, instead hes just...Shaheen
Nah I don’t want him to be a boxer. Awful idea He wouldn’t as cool and would lose his identity Love shaheen exactly as we have him now. He was pretty cool in t7 but now he’s got so much more sauce and looks and fights smoother He’s awesome and belong on the tekken roster
The situation where both you and your opponent have a lot of recoverable health, you connect with a heat engager, regaining all that recoverable health and then immediately get them to block the charge move and get the unblockable grab removing their recoverable health is FUCKED UP. I love it Going to try shaheen out
Do a video explaining all the characters’ different heat gimicks. No one has done a vid like that yet & personally I have no idea what everyone’s heat lets them do. I just know it makes some moves a little better🤷🏻♂️
Shaheen feels like a pseudo steve in t8. Not in the CH department but he has so many cancels and so much flexibility with his fc game. Lots of different pokes and plus frames. Big guard breaks and on demand evasion. 41 is a solid ch. While lacking safety, there and mind games that come after that have been working for me. This is the best upgrade from 7 imo. Uf1, d to close the gap feels amazing too.
Thanks for this frame! ♥ Shaheen revolved in T7 around the heart of tekken - fundamentals, so always found it a bit weird when people said his gameplay was boring. I guess pretty sparks and stuff just don't matter that much to me personally lol. I do agree he didn't really have his own identity, and that that was a problem. I also agree he is boring as a character, lore wise*.. Boring standard noble one-dimensional character.
I’m new to Tekken (played a bit of 7 but only with friends) and I’m playing a different character every 2-3 days so I know what they do. I was expecting Shaheen to be straightforward and simple, that’s what everybody’s been saying but oh lord he isn’t. Canceling SNK into FC is absolutely needed for combos, duck under highs and access low parry after a stance entry, and get the better pressure game (if you enter stance at +10 you can WS1 for a mid while SNK 1 is a high). Also there’s not much bullshit going around with the stance like Victor/Azucena, and detering/punishing opponents from mashing (especially d1) is HARD with Shaheen.
uhh thats some cool stuff^^ i used to play him in t7 as a pocket char, but he always bored me after half an hour. I like what they did to his combos^^ you can probably still do 3df into ws1 as a dmg filler combined with the ws3 loops it could be super satisfying
For me Shaheen in t7 wasn`t boring. He was exhausting to play. He had every tool that you needed for a win, but your fundamental knowledge should`ve been very good. Every win was deserved imo. Hope in t8 he will receive more attention, despite TMM`s judgement for Shaheen being boring even now, that have the most influence for newbies.
Wait….Shaheen’s uncharged up+2 is the same as Miguel’s regular up+2. I always thought that move was useless but… Does Miguel have charged moves in Tekken 7?
I actually picked up Shaheen in Tekken 8 as a new character to learn and it was a STRUGGLE. He is a halal character in a game full of haram opponents. Like literally he is too fair and honest in his gameplay. I was getting absolutely WRECKED by people with low combo starters and moves scooping you off the floor multiple times per combo and I watched this hoping you would reveal one to me with this video. People can just stand in neutral and block your whole movelist. You even mentioned how this Tekken took its focus away from counter attacks and the only low starter that I've seen he has is only effective on counter. I actually just loaded it up to check and of course its minus 6 on block. 20 start up frames. I dont even understand the frame stuff like that but for all the scenarios I set up he gets cooked if its blocked. I guess that's kind of standard but this is amongst pretty much all of his strings being blockable by putting the controller down and rolling a spliff. Tekken monsters please tell me I'm just misunderstanding our honourable Akhi Shaheen so I can pick him back up but as of now at my current skill level it's just easier to hellsweep and shoot a laser at a guy.
Low normal hit combo starters are all seeable. Good players duck and launch them on reaction. Only works in low ranks. The only exception is Devil Jin’s hellsweep. Which is unseeable (still launch punishable of course). Counter hit low launchers do exist, but they are much slower than counter hit highs and mids, so it’s not as easy to land a counter hit low.
@@sebbbi2 I think I understand this but playing reactive in T8 at my skill level (not rank) is suicide. Especially with someone like Shaheen who is honest in his fighting style. Clumsy wave dashes and hell sweeps are gonna have to carry me because I can't be spending 2 hours in replay mode doing maths wondering why my moves didnt work to find out I was too slow by 4 frames. Every time it happens. Which is a lot. It's not that serious.
btw found out shaheen has far easier and faster KBD, just do multiple back then forward inputs and the distance you get is insane. its prob a bug since its only shaheen but pls let my boy have this
Much easier staples i found and alot more damage is, *launcher* into 3 snk cancel ws1 4,1 micro dash into f23, db2 snk 3 or another option after bound run up FC2 into heat activation then ff3
Let me correct you on the charge part..Shaheen is far from the first charge character..Law is the first and paul..Law has a charge flip kick..And paul also has that charge flip kick that he tries to do but falls face first..Both are charge motion..Also Anna has a charged flip kick
I felt Shaheen was good but way too basic in T7. T8 Shaheen feels like a step in the right direction in many ways. An actual strategy behind fundamental play while adding complexity with his new ws3 loops, strings and recoverable gauge removal.
He's a Negan. Both have correlated struggles, toolkit ,gameplan & story background. One lost his wife and become a monster & him his dearest friend and in pursuit of triumphant justice.
Ive been playing him a bit, but he is still pretty boring to me, I'd rather play Law or Lee instead, but he does do good damage and can be a threat. I just dont like playing him.
I actually started T7 with Shaheen, but soon my attention went to other characters. I liked his concept but he was kinda boring as you said. Glad he is so much more fun now and in interesting ways!
I had this problem yesterday. I love playing unpopular characters and i labbed Shaheen and.. suprisingly was dissapointed. He feels boring (not weak) but he just has his defaul tool plus a tiny stance and thats all. And i already tried Claudio as a simple character. But Claudio at least goes into JoJo poses. And Shaheen only has slick pose and dash animation thats all. I wish they just gave him visuals if not tools
