Mami, I'm really impressed with your cooking. I'm an iyengar vadagalai born in srirangam, brought up in New Delhi. My mother has been a very great cook, though she is not there any more. Me , my sister miss her a lot. She's spoilt us so much that our taste buds are very strong & dosent accept anything still other than our food. Though we are vaishnavites , she learnt seeing a pallakad iyer mami cook. We had been told so. Today, you are such a blessing to me that when I see you, hear you & cook , i see my mother in you. As I am unable to understand Tamil, I just follow along with the visuals and sometimes when you post the ingredient quantities in English. I know this channel is intended for those who understand Tamil, but if it's not much to ask, I would be immensely grateful if you could occasionally translate some of the conversations in English - maybe it might benefit some others too. At about 6:20, Maami and you mentioned how a child would follow what is being seen and felt in its immediate surroundings. And this is very true adversely as well. In a recent discussion with someone I know, we were discussing how the grown up son is struggling with his stammering speech..which he feels strongly is limiting his life in various ways.. and interestingly his father has this stammering problem but in a limited form. An eminent neurologist I spoke to regarding this stammering speech problem, I discovered that Stammering Speech is not at all a physiological or a physical problem. The problem, he said manifests often from a very young age by visualisation, exemplary behaviour around the child and also as a coping mechanism psychologically and can be cured with specific counselling and therapy. In this case I felt..just maybe.. the child observed his father and possibly also started mimicking..so as to cope in early phase of speech... So behaviours are absorbed by a young child like a sponge from its surroundings. If at all some problems are observed it should be corrected as soon as its realised. That is why early child hood is important not only in diet but exposure to the best moral examples, analytical conversations and language etc which in the past,extended families with grandparents provided...They taught the young, by way of bedtime stories etc and simple conversations ..not necessarily like now by academic trainining/ tuition and mind training prowess like now...literally I was aghast when I heard some parents would give brain stimulating tablets!!!

You are so right ganesh. Living in north america I have experimented a lot with south indian food and salads etc and just when I think I have invented something new I find that the recipe has already been discovered and been practised in India for 100s of years. Not only have they discovered all the variation they have also discovered best optimum nutritional value of that recipe. They have prescribed what is the most healthy portions of the ingredients and for what condition. Pure pure genius of our ancients. India has has the best chemical labs in terms of food with the greatest scientist in every indian kitchen contributing. Mami is one such genius herself mixing recipes with knowledge.
