So many songs from Shalamar should have topped pop charts. For me, they were the best band over the 79-83 period.

No one today can match the incomparable Howard Hewett in his prime. Shalamar's music was the soundtrack to my teenage years and really takes me back to the best days of my life.

Jeffrey and Jody had left the band before the promotion for The Look had finished hence they are not in this video. Just on the edge of superstardom it all fell apart. But what great music they left us with. Really there was only one Shalamar and that was Howard, Jody and Jeffrey x

By this point,original members Jeffrey Daniel and Jody Watley had left the group. Jody Watley said in her 2009 “Unfiltered” series that Jeffrey was only on “Dead Giveaway”. Their producer, who was also her ex-fiancée, and the father of her daughter Leon Sylvers III did the rest of the vocals in his place for the rest of the album. She also said that she was on everything except for the title track “The Look” and “You Can Count On Me”. She was supposed to sing lead on the latter song,but it was given to Howard at the last minute. Micki Free, with Leon Sylvers’ suggestion to Dick Griffey,replaced Jeffrey, and is in the video beside him in the booth. DeLisa Davis was picked by Howard to replace Jody in late 1983.
