I've read/watched several reviews of the new Sportage Diesel here in SA now, and Juliet has reported the highest mileage so far. Most of the reviews have reported in the low 6's. My guess is Juliet drives like Schumacher, or she's doing mostly town driving. The HEV will be much more more expensive, and is much heavier too. Kia made the best choice to offer the diesel really.

@@MohsinWadee In Britain, the Kia Sportage HEV 2WD in GT-Line S guise is priced at the equivalent of over R940 000. Note that the diesel is no longer offered in Britain.

They're cutting costs. All manufacturers are. That's why VW no longer makes the 1.2 4 cylinder engine for the Polo TSI, but a 3 cylinder 1.0 litre.

The fuel consumption in the 2.0CRDI does does not justify a extra 80nm of torque.. this has a extra gear, 7 instead of 6 in the old driveterain, go drive one you will be quite impressed. I had a 2018 Sportage 2.0CRDI 6speed auto and it SYPS diesel. Mooved over to a Creta 2019 6speed auto 1.6D and i get like 18-22km/L. So for that bit of less torque would not bother the majority of customers. I had a 2023 Sportage top spec 1.6D DCT as a loaner for the day with 1000km on the clock for a full day when mine was in for service and it goes. However im not a fan of the DCT. I did about 250km of driving that day, in traffic it appeard very jerky and shuddery. I would still not buy a DCT. Rather stick to the normal 6speed torque converter auto. My personal opinion is DCT is a workshop income generator as they do have clutches, not one, but TWO, that WILL wear out faster than any manual transmission clutch.
