The Shamisen sounds awesome, I've heard it used in many modern Japanese music, it offers a unique melodic sound that really fits with even a lot of today's instruments.
If Geisha means performing artist and if the first Geisha were men. Does that technically mean Linfamy is a Geisha? Exhibit A: He sang at the end of the video Exhibit B: Through his videos it is established that he is an artist through both illustrations and his comedy. Therefore I declare that Linfamy is our Geisha 😂
its good to see someone mentioning about differences between geisha and oiran😂 BTW it’s easy to distinguish their look Geisha: Obi ribbon back Oiran: Obi ribbon front
oh wow that was an Amazing explanation!! Thank you so much for putting this together, and thank you so much for sharing our channel at the end as well!! (Shamisen in Tokyo) Really appreciate that~ Have a good one mate!
Linfamy I appreciate you thinking so. This was honestly one of the most entertaining explainers on Shamisen yet~ I know what video I’ll be linking to next time someone asks me lol
Shamisen the original bass guitar and the one that makes Metallica "One" sound even more epic. I kid you not. O_O Heard someone perform "One" in a high school talent show using this and wow. Very powerful.
Nice. I couldn't find someone playing "one" on RU-vid but I did find master of puppets 🤘😈 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rw0MWlo59Qs.html
0:54 _"A vicious rumor circulated that her dear dog had impregnated her..."_ So basically, Japan had invented the term called "furry" before it becomes a thing now?
I don't think anyone's had a boba tea in a while. Man, I miss going to the boba shops in my local mall and getting my favorite boba tea combo: Iced coconut milk tea with strawberry pop boba. It's unbelievably delicious. I wanna learn to make it so I don't have to wait for the mall to open back up. Any chance we'll get a video on the history of boba and/or milk tea? Pretty please??? lol
I think the Shamisen was the first japanese musical instrument that I ever knew and was always thanks to Samurai Warriors since Chousokabe Motochika did had a Shamisen as a weapon there (But I believe that was a very creative liberty since in Sengoku Basara he have an anchor spear...)
Japanese surf rock guitarist and bandleader Takeshi Terauchi started out on shamisen, studying with a shamisen master as a kid. Later in life, he recorded at least one album of shamisen music played on electric guitar.
Uhuuul, I got early. I first feel in love with shamisen from a cover of BadApple on youtube from a traditional japanese band and they were SO FREAKIN MEEEEEETAAAAL
It's Kineie Nami with some guest players! They have a CD out with vocaloid covers and they also do stuff like this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bKQp5zHMwC8.html
Thanks so much, lot to learn while having fun! I play the shamisen myself, nagauta style. I can recommend it to everyone, don't be intimidated that it hasn't got frets, you will get used to it! Even better for ear training. :D It's so much fun to play and you can improve quickly.
@@Linfamy in my country Sudan, the Asian embassies organized an event where every country had a table to sell their food and some stuff like clothes and accessories, they also did performances and after each performance the ambassador of the performing country would pick a random number from the audience to give them a gift. It was really fun and Japan had the best performance!
Loving this video so much! I live on Okinawa have been to Aka Inko shrine before (was truly surprised at how much smaller it was compared to any other typical shrine), but this is the first time I'm learning the story behind it. Never thought it'd come from a RU-vid video of all places. brb off to offer some water to the shrine.
He could have mentioned that it's a quite expensive hobby, not just the instrument, but also because it wears down over the course of one year, if you are serious about practicing it!
Answers : The path appear when the low tide happen. They learn when a general learn by a local fisherman tell them. I feel sorry for the sad reward of the fisherman: DEATH.
Something else others may not know. In Amami Island (island in Ryukyu), they took the sanshin, gave it golden color strings, and a thin bachi, giving the instrument a higher pitch and a Shamisen "twang" to it, it has a unique play style. They refer to it as a Shamisen. (I hope to get another Sanshin to convert it to an Amami Shamisen one day)
I used to live in Okinawa, Japan, and I remember seeing these being sold in shops and I was like daaaang what kinda guitar is that. I was nine at the time, and I wish I could’ve learned how to play it.
We hard tuning guitars to have the bund the right height awoyding the buzzing sound. There is a bundles old instument (and probably the ancesster of banjo) that intentionaly made to have the buzzing sound.
Nagauta is the main genre used in Kabuki.* The neck has no frets BUT the seams between each fraction of the neck serve as markers for nodes. So players aren't entirely playing blind.
Damn she killed herself... Also thanks for this music I always thought Japan now is depressing but listening this music is quite amazing. Super love ❤️ this channel. Also it's good to know history about Japanese instrument.
Looks like Renzoh is always too fast for you. He comes, ties you up, then vanishes as quickly as he appears. No wonder you always fail to go after him. Oh, and also, quiz answer: low tide.
2:41 to 3:02 reminded me of the musicians from Kung Fu Hustle. Btw, thank you very much for clearing the whole "Geisha" thing. . 4:51 to 4:53 reminded me of Naruto.
you remind of onmitsu kunoichi osono from abarenbo shogun #1 when she use her shamisen as a weapon(concealed dagger and flying darts peg tuners when she plucks bachi in the strings to cut them and the pegs flies into the baddies)
I would reccomend checking out NHK Blends here on youtube, they showcase traditional Japanese musical instruments by having them play contempary pop songs.
