2003 wc was epic due to these moments. Lee, akhter and bond bowling in the same wc whereas Mcgrath and Pollock fighting for the best line and lenght bowler.Sachin, Lara and ponting and Kallis at same place. I miss those days😔.
What a bowler he was! Swing at that pace! One of my all time favorite. The only fast bowler who consistently troubled the mighty Australian batting lineup ever since his debut. Had he played long enough would certainly have been amongst the greatest of all time.. Was just too good for his body to handle.. Wish he played longer.. Strike rate and average was similar to that of Waqar Younis of 1990-93
Neil Johnson scoring century against Australia in 99 World Cup and beating India was the pinacle of their achievement. I think they made into Super Six back then. Alistair Campbell was captain i think.
@@BabaThanos oh yea now I remember, I was 10 yrs old back then. I remember that Australia match specifically as we had a power cut in our area from afternoon, I listened to the match sitting on balcony in a transistor radio. Good ol days.

@@Tipu830 bond performed more consistently as compared to shoaib for whatever small period he played i remember 3or 4 times when bond bamboozled that great Aussie team shoaib was never effective against aussies see his statistics in aus in test cricket they are average shoaib wasn't that much big bowler that he boasts on his channel
Akhtar, Bond, and Lee made this world cup worth watching. All 3 steaming in and bowling 150+ km/h. In fact what made it better was that one ball was used for the entire 50 overs which also aided reverse swing and made them (Akhtar in particular) even more lethal. It's sad that 150+ speeds are a rarity these days and reverse swing with the white ball has become almost non-existent.
@@splitsecondblackswan on the plus side we don't need to wonder at the 35 over mark of every game whether the ball will be replaced because it was dark and dirty.
The best year of Cricket WC is 2003 Pacers like Bond, Lee and Akhtar were at beast mode. McGrath, Pollock, Vaas and Heat Streak were the line and length machines. Spin duos like Muralidharan and Warne was epic ❤️👍
Pace and swing. Unbelievable!! His dashing looks, strong body, blonde hair and unforgettable performance made him my favourite even when I saw him for the first time in late 2000s. I was just a little kid back then.. Even at that age, I knew that he was someone special.. A legend
@@Nazeem_6621 if I am not wrong, his hair had a little bit of tan in it.. So, yeah he was a little blonde.. Even in this video, his hair is not completely dark
One of the greatest fast bowler I have seen during my 24yrs of witnessing this particular game i.e. cricket...he was only bowler in the world maybe alongside McGrath who could get Rahul Dravid clean bowled b/w 2002-2004...in his (Dravid's) prime...for me Shane Bond was the combination of McGrath's line ,length & accuracy and Lee's pace in one man...one of the most dangerous combo one can hope to find...for me he was the 007 ...Bond Shane Bond of the bowling...
I remember watching one of his recent two three years back video while he is bowling coach for some IPL team he gave small explanation on how to swing the ball...he showed the technique of knuckle bowl what a brilliant bowler Shane really was. I used to copy his bowling action when I played cricket.
He was a double edged sword... Normally as a batsman you either have to manage with pace or with swing but in case of Bond you have to manage with both... Astonishing bowling...
I remember talking with my friend about the stats of top bowlers of that era and Shane Bond was certainly one of those..Best Pacer Newzealand could ever had
Steyn was slightly slower than Bond but better at swing(especially outswing). Steyn was a consistent mid to late 140’s kind of a bowler with an occasional 150+ while Bond was late 140’s to early 150’s kind.
@@jaybreacher4430 have you seen the world cup or checking the stats at Cricinfo???? I don't want to undermine your knowledge but your statement makes me think. Now if you are going by stats, please go match by match scorecard. Check the type of wickets bond and Lee got, att what time which opponents, what were the order of the batsmen. Was Lee even the best bowler in the match..... Please check all these details. And if you have seen that world cup, then you would know that Andy bichel bowled better than Lee.
The number of all time greats , legends and future hall of famers in the 2003 world cup was mind boggling . Sachin , McGrath, Waseem ,Waqar , Pollock, Kallis, James Anderson, Shoaib akhtar ,Bond, Brett Lee, Dravid ,Sehwag , Vittori, ponting, Lara , Murali ,Vaas, Sangha, Mahela, Flintoff, Hayden, Gilchrist....wooof. Talk about star power.
Bond was the best from 90s pacers, it's just that his fitness was an issue. Lee and Akhtar were nothing in front of him. Check his records you shall know.
2003 World Cup Top 10 Fastest Bowlers list_ Shoaib Akhtar 161.3 Brett Lee 160.7 Shane bond 157.4 Jermaine Lawson 153.2 Andy Blignaut 151.1 Aashish Nehra 149.7 Makhya Nntini 149.4 Jason Gillespie 148.3 Dilhara Fernando 147.9 Zahir Khan 147.4 Andy Bichel 146.1
As a kid while watching 2003 opening overs of Bond, Akhtar, Lee, vaas, akram, zaheer khan I thought playing gully cricket is fine... I wont play cricket at this level
The batsman must be Craig Wishart, reminds me of late 90s Zimbabwe team. They also tried experimenting with Douglas Merillier, Neil Johnson, Dion Ibrahim etc if I remember. 90s kids?
Looking Back now we realise how the quality of players have deteriorated. Especially with T20 matches the sport has become an entertainment and players are showered with money they don’t deserve .
What a WC this was.. Awesome players on display. Bond was one of the only few fast bowlers who bowled with a clean action. Mostly saw him tk ball out had no idea his inswing was also this lethal
