Well what's an interviewer to do ?? If you don't ask questions of your guest.....It could become a little tedious . Not a word often associated with the marvelous Macgowan who answered the valid ( in my opinion ) questions brilliantly , honestly and most of all thoughtfully ,and didn't seem at all put out . He answered thoughtfully, and his parents as well. Cracking interview . God bless you Shane , I cried when I heard , pulled my car over , finished the whiskey , and cried some more. Then called my mum to drive me home to listen to ' If I should fall from Grace 'on repeat .😢😢😢 Love ya Shane !!!!

That interview was so embarrassing on National Television. Shane was subjected to continuous personal questions. Shane you were a brilliant poet songwriter musician singer and entertainer. Your parents were so supportive. You are a kind and generous man. We all love you Shane R.I.P. ❤❤❤❤❤❤.
@@MissX33You don't know what his parents did or did not do. Pure speculation that's quite damaging or at the least unfairly judgemental. You know your truth & they know theirs & everyone has to live in their truths, so if you're correct in your speculation, I'm sure his parents were quite tortured. Just an FYI: I believe I read they worked a lot & grandparents looked out for him. Grandpa gave him liquor every night. He also struggled with mental health issues & you don't know the story behind that & why a grandparent might be compelled to do such a thing. The mental hospitals were far from helpful back then. He was a brilliant artist & his soulfulness & pain & love can be distinctly felt in his music. This interview was painful but Shane handled it brilliantly, as did his parents.
Shane has such a kind heart, it’s amazing how his addictions didn’t cloud this. Ultimately he spoke and sung his truth I think this honesty preserved and prevented the alcohol from attacking his spirit and soul.
And also, Shanes old pair sitting amongst the smug/disapproving arse faces, and then coming out with pure truth and calling out the BS. Legends of the legend.
I fecking hate this kind of bullying. They invite him on, ask him about his music ffs, don't harangue him about drugs and booze. Almost every Shane interview goes like this. He loves a beer, we all know that, talk to him like a human and not a fecking science experiment. Boils my piss it really does.
Very well put; it’s no wonder this shy brilliant man did very few interviews. The grilling Mr. Kenny put Shane through was disgustingly awful. As a novice to his interviewing style from the US, Kenny strikes me as pompous huckster. We have turds like him ( Colbert, Kimmel,etc) and their viewership is dwindling rapidly. RIP Shane MacGowan.

Kudos to Shane for keeping cool, calm and collected during this interview that had a condescending tone from the beginning . Instead of trying to focus on his substance abuse issues, the interviewer should have been focused on his music. And Shane's parents are so supportive of him during this witch trial of an interview.
I am not sure that I agree w you. By doing what he did, especially giving Shane's parents a platform, I learned more about Shane , his character & depth. I believe the announcer knew the direction this was going.

Aside from some seriously stupid questions from the interviewer, this is a wonderful interview to watch. I feel sorry for Sinead - but hearing Shane's parents speak at length is sheer pleasure.
I love the bones of Shane. He is a bloody master of song writing. He is who he is and is such an intelligent person. He speaks so carefully and honestly. He will always be in my opinion one of the very best song writers along with Jim Morrison Charles Thompson Otis Redding and Amy Winehouse.

Thats how Ireland was at the time. It was incredibly judgemental and narrow minded. The interviewer was the highest paid broadcaster in the country who worked for the state broadcaster. He has made millions from our taxes for being exactly what many people wanted back then. And that was to ridicule and demonise everything outside of a tiny worldview and to defend the sex criminal priests. Its no coincidence that Irelands suicide rate was and still is so high. You either fit in or you leave. One way or another.
