Always thought this was an amazing song. Not really a Sinead Oconnor music fan but loved her for everything she believed in. Fearless lady. the very people we need to upset systems today.
"Sinéad saved my life, she was always a great friend to me and Victoria and she always looked after me when I needed her. She felt a lot of responsibility for people and for the world - she let it weigh her down and sometimes it got too much for her. Maybe she thought she needed to do more than it was possible for her to do. She was an incredible singer, that voice and those eyes, those enormous eyes. 2:04 I had never seen anyone like her when she first went on telly doing "Mandinka". She was really powerful, in her bovver boots with her skinhead and her ballet tutu. I was blown away by her." Everyone who ever met her will miss her and I just pray that she is at peace, and that she is with her son Shane who was also a really great kid." - Shane McGowan
The exact opposite of all the manufactured nonsense and talent show crap. These 2 were pure talent and totally indifferent to anyone's opinions. Ireland has lost 2 of the very best singers and songwriters this year but their songs and their music will live on as long as there are people who appreciate real and inspiring musical genius.
Totally agree with you Fin. Sinead and Shane were both wanting to make great music unlike a lot of people in the business today just to make money. Sinead and Shane's music is timeless and will last forever. Best collaboration ever.
This was also manufactured. Just in a different way. It didn’t just come from nowhere. It was produced, polished, pimped and pushed as much as anything at the time. That said - they are both great singers and performers.
Sinead was so beautiful in this...her hair, was really quite flattering, and her beauty, contrasted with Shane's 'beast' makes for such a brilliant song.
Agreed Beauty and the Beast Comes to mind ~¤~ right ✅ this is a moving collision of two individuals who both have individual and collective genius placed within this one MesmeriZing song 🎵 RD from RDesignsInk LLC keep on singing 🎶
Sinead O'Connor is beautiful in this & all her videos. She is still just as beautiful still & as for beauty & the beast. Most beasts are very beautiful in their own ways. So I would say beauty & the handsome beast. Great song.
I think at a time like this we need to look past all the controversy and provocation and remember and appreciate and respect her for the beautiful human being she is, mother, rebel, voice of of an angel, I raise my drinking horn to you sweet soul.
As far as I’ve read she didn’t have strong politics. She just didn’t like people abusing children and wanted to make a statement about that fact. She was right, and wanting to protect children is not political per se. have a nice day sir. 😀🙏✨
@@SolutionsWithin Indeed you are correct! Aside from the Qanon lunatics spouting nonsense, there is indeed nothing wrong with trying to protect children. That said, as a correction to you, she made numerous statements which are, at least in the US, political issue including feminism (her short hair was, in her own words, a statement on traditional ideas of femininity), global climate change. She was quite vocal about being considered "left" in Irish politics and even called on Gerry Adams to back off.
@@davelister6632 Hi Dave. I am Irish Canadian. Here we don’t consider “feminism” or climate change to be “political.” With all due respect, feminism is an academic principle that we (men and women) can and should advocate for equality for everyone and for no violence against women, children, disabled people, and other minorities and disadvantaged people. It may not be apparent to all men immediately, but the result of equality and non-violence/non-abuse will be a boon and benefit to men as well b/c women are beneficial contributors to human advancement. The long term male dominated progress is lacking fullness in every way. Re. climate, there was a time about 10 years back that some climate scientists claimed that climate change cannot be proven to be caused by humans; however, more recently, virtually all scientists have come to agree that the updated empirical studies, data and facts show that it is real, humans are causing it, and that we should at least be trying to reduce carbon emissions immediately and intensely. The biggest problem is that our social and physical construct was not designed to function in super high temperatures, rising water, violent storms, decreased sea currents, etc., etc. There will be crop failures. The idea was that helpful changes can be made, but it needed to be done fast. That said, I think b/c not all politicians and citizens are on board, and of course b/c we can’t force all countries to acquiesce, I personally think it’s too late and the tipping point has already been crossed. I don’t think much can be done to stop destruction now b/c of the feedback loop that feeds climate change (i.e. mass melting of permafrost and people refusing to go vegan, etc. etc.). That said, there is a scientific argument to be made that humans could still mitigate the level or intensity of destruction that is to come, but sadly, I doubt they will organize enough or swiftly enough to accomplish that. I believe the only hope for this planet now is for the aliens (angels -good angels) to come and save us. That particular process may actually be currently initiating as well. Note that the aliens are feminists and believe in climate change too, and they do not approve of pollution or using animals or animal products for sustenance or abusing or imprisoning animals and they don’t care about human notions of politics. I do not mean any of this to sound antagonistic to you or anyone, I’m merely stating the truth. All the best to you ♾🙏✨
Sinéad was by far one of the most intelligent humans to walk this Earth! Sinead's "politics" were all about Irish pride and railing against two oppressor forces, the english and the catholic church. I refuse to give these two groups of oppressors recognition or respect by placing capital letters. The atrocities perpetrated by both oppressors including the Genocide we call An Gorta Mór (or as the english propagandists claim as a Famine...when, in fact, the Irish experienced surpluses throughout this timeframe but were purposefully and systematically murdered by the english through laws and policies against the Irish) as well as the molestation of Irish children and the destruction of Irish families by the priests, nuns, and church hierarchy are what fueled Sinéad's Truth Seeking and Truth Telling! Sinéad suffered untold abuse by her mum and others. SInéad was diagnosed as bipolar and depressive. These matters do not diminish her intelligence or her talent! Sinéad loved her country, her family, her people (The Irish Nation); she advocated for the Truth, she loved her art, she spoke her Truth, she spoke Truth to Power! She believed in women's rights, equality for all people, and advocating for those with mental health issues. Sinéad persevered even though the majority of the ignorant masses hated her without justification other than their pure ignorance! These same haters FINALLY learned the Truth that Sinead had long been telling DECADES after the world "canceled" her! Sinéad was eventually proven to be RIGHT!!! Sinéad had a brilliant Light. Now, Sinéad has been released from her physical bonds. May Sinéad's Light Shine forever! GRMMA for EXISTING Sinéad!
The rain in Dublin today cant disguise the tears of sadness at the loss of one of her sweetest daughters , heartbroken she's been taken from us so prematurely. No more pain may she rest eternally in peace 💔👊😔
She created to leave when it was her time. She's free pain sorrow..she was a very lost soul indeed..shes with her son mum. Surprised she lasted this long 56 is good for tormented soul that she was. Very tramatised lady bless her heart soul ❤
Here's the best musical equivalent of "The Beauty and the Beast" voice wise. This great song has always been one of my favourite songs in the the male/female duets genre. Rest in peace, Sinéad O'Connor. May your angelic voice join an angelic choir and may you find the happiness that you did not find in this cruel world.
Rest in perfect peace dear Sinéad with your beautiful son...... Such a beautiful poetic soul...... Ireland has lost another incomparable artist today.... 😢😢💔💔😞😞
!!! THIS IS FOR ALL RECORDS !!! SINEAD'S SWEET UNIQUE VOICE WILL NEVER BE COVERED BY ANY OTHER SINGER.. I AM GUILTY OF NOT SAYING THIS BEFORE..REST IN HEAVEN WITH YOUR SON SINEAD, YOUR MUSIC IS HEAVENLY ON THIS EARTH.THANK U💙🎶
RIP Shane MacGowan (December 25, 1957 - November 30, 2023), aged 65 And RIP Sinéad O'Connor (December 8, 1966 - July 26, 2023), aged 56 You both will be remembered as legends.
This was the last song I heard from Sinead and loved it so much. I was hoping that this would be her big comeback and people will recognized how beautiful all her music is. RIP Sinead. You will be missed.
Came here to remind me of the original after the incredible funeral celebration for Shane - what a beautiful song by two beautiful angels of our time….
A truly sad year, losing so many fantastic artists. R.I.P SINEAD, what an incredible woman, full of passion and daring. R.I.P SHANE, totally unique voice, and a wonderful songwriter!
Two beautiful talented people keeping each other company in heaven...hope they are still singing...having a never ending party waiting for all their family and friends .God bless.
Absolutely gutted to hear the news, Sinéad was truly one of a kind. This particular tune hits me. 2 of my all time heroes. suaimhneas síoraí Sinèad, you did us proud!
Both had barbed wire and velvet...two souls truly blessed and cursed...the world was lucky to have them for the time we did. Glad they got together for this tune. Suaimhneas siorai. ❤☮🌎
Tear’s in my eyes as I watch the two brilliant, gentle and tortured souls, gone far too soon in 2023, so many similarities between Sinead and Shane, another very sad day for Irish music, - Ar dheis De go Raibh a Anam
First Christy Dignam then Sinead and now one of the greatest Irish songwriters have all departed this world for the next, I'm pretty sure heaven doesn't know what's hit it with those 3 absolute Irish legends, Thanks for all the great memories and songs you have left the world to enjoy now go rock the next world👍💚💚💚☘☘☘☘
First time hearing this beautiful duet with Sinead. I am so happy I found this! And I felt a huge energy shift on the day of her passing n cried like a baby n didn't know why, until something told me to check the news, n that's when I discovered our precious n beloved Sinead had gone on to the other side. It truly breaks my heart over the massive suffering she'd endured by herself!🥀💔 But I am very thankful she suffers no more, n is in the 🕊️💛✨ of Yahshua Yahuah, now!🙏🏼 You will forever be remembered in our hearts n memories our beloved Sinead! n truly missed!😔💐🍀🥀
One of my favourite songs ever❤. Found it years ago from watching the movie "the matchmaker " Back here again today for obvious reasons 😢. RIP beautiful lady❤
Shane McGowan died today very sad news he's gone in the same year as Sinead O'Connor he was real rock n roll his music was inspiring and empowering two legends gone in the one year I absolutely loved the pogues so many classics rip Shane❤️
Sinead and Shane were both class acts. Both left far too early: Sinead from a broken heart after the death of her beloved son and Shane after decades of alcoholic abuse. He also lost his mother and road manager in short succession. At the peak of their powers, they both made unforgettable and elegant music. Remember them this way.
One of the greatest songs I ever heard -- great lyric, wonderful melody and excellent musicianship. Shane's gruff voice with Sinead's angelic voice is like potato chips and chocolate. Delicious. Shane did this with one other female vocalist and that too was a beautiful song. He should do an entire duet album with great female vocalists. He is a great songwriter.
That was with Cait O'Riordan, she was in The Pogues at the time. Was originally done for the Sid And Nancy soundtrack. Cait was married to Elvis Costello for a while.
@@mauricefitz3296 Cait was also supposed to duet with Shane on "Fairytale of New York", but she had left the band by the time they got around to recording, so they got Kirsty MacColl.
Used to play cards and darts with shane in the pub would drink a bottle of jack daniels and go back to the local studio at midnight and write great music a really great bloke and top song writer .
@@markshort8745 - Thanks for that Mark. I know Shane (I'm American) is sometimes hard to understand when he speaks, but I think he's a great character, an interesting conversationalist, a superb songwriter. I would've loved to have tipped a pint with him. I have his book & have read it twice. He's a far more intelligent man than most people give him credit for. I hope he is well, (he didn't appear so a few years ago when he was pictured in a wheelchair. I know he got teeth). I like him (he's a little younger than I am) but, I respect him. I hope there's more music in his heart. Great artist.
Can’t listen at present but this is an incredible song and incredibly beautifully performed by Sinead and Shane. And reminds me of the summer of 95 when I was in love and in London in a heatwave.
