July 29, 2021. North Cascades National Park, Whatcom County, Washington.
This trail is used mostly by climbers summiting Mount Shuksan via the Sulphide Glacier route. On this day I went that route until I reached one of its two designated bivy spots.

Thanks for the video. I climbed Shucksan via Fisher Chimney, this looks like a fun way too. How much more milage do you estimate you went up for the view of the glacier? And another 400+ feet elevation?

From the park boundary up to the top of the nearby notch is about a 400' climb. From the top of the notch to the lower bivy site I'd estimate as another 800' of gain and at least a mile.

Any advice to hiking this trail? Going in July.

Yes indeed. Until very late July it is likely early to go up here. Could be quite a bit of snow, perhaps even on the road before the trailhead. I did not do this trip in these conditions, but if I did I would like to have microspikes and a GPS. Also please be aware that while this route starts off on an established trail (Shannon Ridge), the upper part of this journey was off trail on a climber's route up Mount Shuksan. Was quite steep and rough. It's more than a hike, in places it's a non-technical scramble requiring use of your hands. If the snow is lingering late in July, there are a few places in the area with south facing slopes that are hikeable. Goat Mountain in Whatcom County comes to mind (great view of the north end of Shuksan from there).
