I've watched your video at least three times, maybe four. My machine is on the way, and thanks to you, I am now well versed on how it goes together. After 3 days of frustrating study on Carbide Create I was able to design two projects: a Christmas ornament and a foot stool. Can't wait to make some chips. Thanks Sam for the useful and entertaining information.
Leaving us hanging for the next video. Gotta love it! Nice work, Sam. I can imagine how excited you were to finally get the machine, not to mention putting it together. Well thought out assembly video. This will be a go-to video for lots of folks, I'm sure.
Thanks Sam. I used your video instead of Carbide's to assemble mine because you added just little bit more helpful information. I also squared the machine after step 2. I found it easier to do and maybe a little more precise by using a large l-square to sure up each side. If you try squaring after the end plates are on, then you can't use an L or T square and you're really just eyeballing it.
Welcome to Shapeoko. I bought the XXL in July and love it. I learned really quickly that the wrench (I believe 22mm ) that comes with the router is no good. It bent the first time I used it. I bought a much better quality one online. It also took me about three days that there is a lock button on the router to help it in changing bits. My only issue so far is random disconnects from the cutter, which is do to electromagnetic interference. Carbides support is outstanding, they even replied back to me on Thanksgiving Day.
Great video. Looks SOOOOO much easier to assemble than the original Shapeoko 3 I bought 5 years ago. It took me longer than that not taking video. Enjoy!
FYI....the “s” is silent at the end of Illinois. 😁 I can’t wait to see what you do with your new toy! I wish I had the room for one of these where I live....in Illinois. The possibilities are endless! This is really going to step up your creativity and shop offerings!
Sam, I am truly happy for you. I know you have waited a long time for delivery on this so who says Christmas comes but once a year. I can't wait to see what you make with it first. So two thumbs up ( I would give you more but that's all I have ). And as always thanks for sharing the unboxing and assembly process video.
Sam, enjoyed your video. I'll be putting a Shapeoko Pro together soon too! Seeing you hefting the boxes and assemblies really hit home how much beefier this model is than the original flava Shapeoko. I've enjoyed my Shapeoko and I'm looking forward to this upgrade!
Sam you are a poet and don’t know it ! Love your Vids ! When we watch we wait for your crack me up comments 😂😂🤣 hope to see more of your boys ( a.k.a feral children )in your vids as they get older they are so polite!
Thanks Sam.. I've been waiting for the Pro to be released. Your video was quite helpful with aiding me in my decision to go with Pro or another brand. The machine looks well built and sturdy. I'm sold!
Great video! I just ordered my Pro (upgrading from a 3). I loved my 3, but we had a bad thunderstorm and it got fried (part of the board went bad, some of the homing switches don't work, some of the motors went bad). I can get spare parts for it to fix (unfortunately, the controller board is on backorder), but I figure it's time to upgrade. I'm excited to get the Pro. Carbide3D has great products, so, I know i'm going to love it.... I love your hat by the way....
Excellent job recording and editing a pretty long and detailed assembly. If I was getting the Shapeoko Pro I would definitely be saving your video. The Carbide crew should definitely give you some sort of a kickback for all your time, effort, and let's not forget money. Lol
Sam I am putting together a Pro my self today when you got to the drag chain for the router cord you video was going so fast I could not tell where you fastened the first drag chain and did it also run down the y rail also and how did that work out after you installed the Bit Runner Thanks Jeff Peters could you take a picture or 2 as to where the router drag chains are installed thanks Jeff
It’s a GRBL controller. You send Gcode like to any other CNC really. Nothing special about this. You can use Carbide Motion, Universal Gcode Sender, Linux Cam, Candle, CNCjs, etc to send the Gcode file.
It was very pricey for me, but in the world of CNC machines it's considered a hobbyist machine! LOL I'm looking forward to the business opportunities it will open up for me and for it to begin paying for itself! :)
Considering the linear rails and the rigidity the price of 2800 dollars is almost a steal..you can have a workbee queen bee for less but i dont know if that unit is more ridgid then this
@@Samcraftcom I’m about to move house and into a 17x17 shop space. I’ve been trawling your shop tours and going frame by frame for layout tips. Love your channel. Loved watching you put the shop together for the literal ground up. I was just about to ask if you had a layout diagram, but see it on your IG. Some great content over there, too 👍
on the website for the cnc, its says cnc, AND router. but the router looks like one you'd buy from the store. is that the router for the machine or an extra?
I ordered the 4 on July 30, 2022 and it was delivered on August 4, 2022 so ... delivery was quick ! 2 very heavy boxes delivered in the middle of my driveway, not on my porch.(That's UPS for ya). NO Printed Instructions !!! Postcard in box. Assembly video has not been updated after 2 years. The left and right Y shrouds have been modified and I'm awaiting response from support as to their orientation.
Reference the table you made for the Shapeoko. What is the size of the top? Would you have made it a different size or anything about it you would have done differently? What is the height from the floor to the top of the table? Thanks - great video - Was there anything that was a problem area during assembly?
That command lies within your gcode file your design software generates that you then load into Carbide Motion. I use Carveco (links in description) and it handles everything for me. I don't know about Carbide Create, but would assume they do, too.
Placing my order monday. Does the Pro XXL come with the BitZero V2 or do I need to purchase it? Any other accessories besides the clamps and "endmill starter kit" that you reccommend me buying? like the bit runner or bit setter? Thanks for the help, bud!
Double check to make sure what I say is still correct -- in case they have changed it since I bought mine in December 2020... Mine came with the green clamps you see me use. I also has the BitSetter built in. I bought a BitZero separately (v1 was the only one available at that time, but v2 is much better). The BitRunner is awesome. I have a separate video on adding that to my machine and showing the setup. For bits, I would say get some cheap ones from Amazon to experiment with. Skyone CNC is also a good US-based affordable bit company, but I have no affiliations.
Yep, I was. I didn't know until another viewer mentioned it to me. Sent an email to Carbide 3D and they shipped them out super quick. Easy to install too -- don't have to remove anything.
You made that look easy. I'm starting to climb down off my intimidation mountain...starting...to me, starting means to think about starting. Ok, I'm starting to think about starting :/
Hi Sam, I’m having a homing issue with my shapeoko pro. And I’m thinking it could be my wirings being all mixed up. I’m thinking it could be my “YL” and “YR”. But I’m not sure
I have a video uploading right now showing some issues that I had too. One was Y Axis issues. It traveled to the front of the machine during homing instead of the rear. Quick fix: swap the Y1 & Y2 cables on the controller board. This video should be published soon...
Here is my 3 Month review video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZENCEK67nqU.html I still have it today (Jan 2023) and hope to get to use it in my new shop soon!
Bought it myself, no kickback, no affiliate commissions. :) Sharing all of this to help others who may be interested and to share in the fun I have in my workshop.
Thanks Sam. I have received my PRO and have assembled it. Is there a guide on how to actually operate it and a trouble shooting guide? I didn't receive any such information and am at a lost as how to proceed. Where can I go on You Tube and Facebook for further information. Thanks again Sam. Enjoying your videos.
Hey David, congrats on the new toy err.. tool! :) The best resource I know of currently is the Shapeoko facebook group if you're on facebook ( facebook.com/groups/unofficialshapeoko ). It's full of helpful people and a great place to learn and grow. Carbide 3D also has their own community forums if you're not on facebook, but it's not as active.
I think it could... it uses a power inverter "brick" to convert voltage from our 120v to whatever the controller board needs, so surely there would be a similar one for your area.
@@Samcraftcom Thanks, but I just saw the woodworker from onefinity and I guess I will be going with that one. Seems very stiff, and good to get rid of belts. Also price and shipping weight play a big role.
@@langrock74 Thank you, I have since this come almost full circle and am set on the Nomad 3. Then later a big 5x5 feet router. Gonna need that nomad for fine detail on aluminium. Aluminum. Whatever
Hay Sam. I'm waiting for mine to arrive. I noticed that in your video there is no mention of or installation of the plastic strips between the T Slot bed extrusions to keep debris and things from getting trapped under the table. Did they not come with your kit? Or did you just not use them? Great video!
thats a awesome first cnc look great, are you able to flatten that whole bed of is some of it beyond working area. carn wait to see what you make with the machine
That's a concern of mine... the hybrid table is beyond the surfacing capacities of the machine. X Axis and Rear Y Axis. Not sure what to do on that yet. :-\
Yes, it sure will! It's not an option from Carbide 3D directly, but there are people who have put them on the machines and added some other software with success. I recently saw on the Shapeoko Facebook group that someone added a laser + software to theirs for less than $150.
I'll cover that in my next video, but the basic overview is: install Carbide Motion on the computer, connect machine, send initial configurations to the controller board, then you're all set. :)
ok stop the presses, a person has to spend 2,800.00 dollars on this cnc and it does not come with a router, you have buy one seperate, it says it on the web site, wow.
Can't believe I watched that entire video and didn't see it cut a thing, disappointed is mildly putting it. We didn't need another "how to put it together video", I'm mean how many other video's have we watched where the editing was a collection of days work.
