The video provides a detailed walkthrough on using the SharePoint API with Power Automate to enhance capabilities beyond the built-in actions. The main tasks covered include creating a SharePoint site, adding a list, adding a column to that list, and creating a view, along with essential troubleshooting tips.
Creating a SharePoint Site
Overview: The process begins with creating a new instant cloud flow in Power Automate and adding an HTTP request action for SharePoint.
Details: The video illustrates how to send an HTTP request to SharePoint to create a site using the SharePoint API. It highlights the importance of using the correct API endpoint, setting up the appropriate headers, and configuring the body of the request with necessary parameters like site name, URL, and template ID.
Key Tools: Utilization of SharePoint HTTP action which handles authentication, avoiding the need for manual token management.
Adding a List to the Site
Setup: After creating the site, the next step is to add a list. This is done by sending another HTTP request.
Execution: The tutorial guides on how to format the request to add a new list, explaining how to set up headers and the body with JSON configuration specifying the list details.
Adding a Column to the List
Procedure: Adding a column involves sending an HTTP request to the SharePoint API, specifying the list and the details of the new column.
Configuration: The presenter details the body setup required for the JSON payload, which includes the column name, type, and additional settings.
Creating a View
Final Touch: The last part involves creating a custom view for the list using yet another HTTP request.
Explanation: View creation is shown with specific parameters in the request body to define how the view should be set up and what columns it should display.
Troubleshooting and Tips
Debugging: Throughout the video, troubleshooting tips are provided, such as how to use the 'terminate' action to stop the flow intentionally for testing specific parts.
Learning Resources: The video emphasizes learning by doing, suggesting viewers to experiment with the actions and adjust parameters as they go along.
Conclusion
The video concludes with a comprehensive review of the steps covered, encouraging viewers to explore further and utilize the SharePoint API with Power Automate to automate more complex tasks.

Great content Shane - I love the API stuff as it shows possibilities which aren't available with the built-in actions. Greetings from Switzerland

Great video, Shane. I've usually just created the Sites manually to then connect them to my flows but this could be extremely useful where Sites/Lists etc needs to be created on the Fly in certain use cases so very good to know. Thanks for sharing

Yes, flow is a pain in my butt. I love it and it does great things but it is a lot of work to build with.

Love the API content, thanks! I’ve just begun looking at using Power Apps / Power Automate to update OneNote, therefore, two OneNote related questions: (1) do you know whether something called Microsoft Loop is going to replace OneNote? (2) have you heard anything about OneNote having ‘data’ like capabilities/dynamic tables? I would hate to spend energy on something on its way out, but using api’s to populate dynamic tables in OneNote might be interesting.

Great content shane❤, Couple of things i noticed in microsoft docs, 1. When we are looking for better performance in large data set they recommend Graph API with SharePoint, only difference is max total records in one graph call is 1k but in SharePoint http req its 5k. 2. I've been using graph api in power automate using standard connector (office 365 groups- send http req) but now Microsoft has deprecated that and introduced V2 of it, but it takes the sub group as /groups, so anything apart from groups we can't access. Can you guide on any workaround for using graph api in power automate and that too with standard connector?
