In my 100th video I shared the long version of the story of my niece's death. I wanted to give a recap for those who didn't know the story because I have a few new videos about her coming soon. Here is the story of her death. We focus on her life and not so much on her death but we have lessons we learned from that time.

I lost a niece at 15. I did the eulogy at her funeral. It was peaceful though she died in such tragic circumstances. I worked for the funeral home after I moved back to Oklahoma. I wish I was still there.

Thank you for sharing your story. I worked in the funeral industry for 20+ years. From April 2008 to March 2009 we lost 5 family members. I was involved in each of their arrangements at the request of my family. I was honored to do so, however, I developed compassion fatigue not long after that. I had no time to grieve for myself of all the loss we had encountered in such a short amount of time. I left the business about a year later. Thank you for emphasizing that funerals can be as personal as you want. There is so much "unknown" to the outside public who has never worked in a funeral home or never asked. I hope people will listen to your advice and thank you again for sharing. I'm so sorry your family had to experience such loss. Blessings from TN.

Kari, I couldn't watch this video; I can talk about death all day if it's an adult or myself we're discussing.......but a child or an infant? Oh hail no. Especially seeing the picture of that sweet, adorable face......that wrecked me. 😓😓😓😓😓😓 Some could say the child's Spirit had just a short "assignment" here in this Life, but the thought of any family losing an innocent after such a short time is crushing.

I remember watching the video about your niece. I'm sorry for your loss and your family's loss. My Dad passed away unexpectedly and suddenly on 12/12/23. You are the first person I thought of that I wanted to take care of my Dad, but I'm in Ohio. So, we went with a funeral home here. We set up a direct cremation, he did not have life insurance and money is tight. I was so disappointed with the way they handled things at the funeral home. I felt so rushed and like there was only a minute or two to see my Dad. They did not come across as caring at all. They stood around near us and were being rather pushy for us to go to the other building to make the payment arrangements. I felt like that was all they cared about. I wish I would have had more time to say goodbye to my Dad.

I'm so sorry about your dad's passing and the bad experience with the funeral home making it worse. Your story made me wonder if there are people, who volunteer or for a reasonable fee, who take on the role of an advocate for the bereaved in this kind of situation. Maybe someone not connected to a funeral home, but someone knowledgeable who can accompany the loved ones land explain things, give advice, and help them navigate the process in a way that's beneficial. (Or even quietly take the rude the funeral home staff aside to tell them to back off and stop being pushy.) The funeral is your final experience with your father and you will have these memories for the rest of your life. Final memories are always going to be sad because of the loss of a loved one, but with the right support form a caring and knowledgeable supporter/advocate, it could be a comfort that will eventually help you look back on the funeral with peace. There are life coaches, wedding planners, child birth coaches, therapists, etc who help people who don't know what to expect or are too stressed to think clearly enough to know what to do to advocate for themselves. I would expect that to be the responsibility of a staff member at the funeral home, but maybe not? IMO, people in your situation could benefit from a professional support person who can advise the bereaved and protect them from pushy and predatory funeral home staff.

BINGO! And I also want to add my condolences on the passing of your father, and the way you felt you were “rushed” through. I think you can always call the BBB and give your HONEST REVIEW! Enough people complain, it can affect on their business poorly, and therefore, I’m sure you may NOT be the only ones.

Thank you for talking about this. My former student was part of a murder suicide. I went off the deep end getting involved with a man trying to hide from the pain. I have since been told that people mourn in different ways. I want to go back and call someone like you. I have since dropped the shovel whereby, I was unknowingly digging my own grave. That was the last of March. I am learning slowly to accept this young man's death, and move forward in my own life.

Ever since I first heard of this tragedy, I've wanted to know how old she was. Thank you for revealing that here. She was way too young. My heart hurts for you and your family having to lose such a young family member. I can't begin to imagine the things that go through the minds of those who have this happen to them. As I've said before, going through these trials makes you not only a better funeral director, it makes you a better person. My heart, love and prayers go out to you and yours. Your heart is made of pure gold. Your compassion for those who are hurting speaks volumes about you being able to relate to and empathize with anybody who loses a friend or family member. I'm truly sorry. There's nothing else left to say.

I remember that video. In fact, I watched it twice bc I stumbled across it, after watching another one of ur videos. So I just clicked on it. It hurts me to the core, to hear abt infants & small children dying...for whatever reason....in the dawn of their lives. To think of how much, they will miss in a lifetime they will never, get to experience. This was particularly sad. She was a beautiful child. God bless & keep her.💕🪽💐🕊

So sorry for you and your families loss. I just don't understand why anyone regardless of relationship would take a 7 year old baby and do such things, It's hard for me to wrap my mind around something so horrific as murder/suicide, there really is no reason for it and it's uncalled for. That little girl didn't even have a chance to grow up and experience life. This is so aggravating that nothing can be done legally, that closure was taken away. I do recall watching the other video, it's heart breaking and I cried through it. 7 years old is just too young to be ripped away from the family, it's far too young to be murdered (any age is far to young for murder, I don't want anyone thinking I'm ok with it as long as your not a child and there is NEVER a time murder is good, it just shouldn't happen to anyone).....Just tragic, I'm so sorry

I’m so sorry. My mom died at home, after 5 cruel years of ALZ. She was buried with a cut of my daughter’s beautiful red hair and a cut of my now thinning gray/brown hair. We each made her a beaded bracelet and she had her favorite amethyst marcasite ring. Having regretted not being a pallbearer for her I did join my husband and family when my MIL was buried. Why not, female pallbearers? Not too much weight when you’re one of 8.

Hi Kari the mortician, thanks for having a RU-vid channel addressing death for me is really hard to accept death because the grief causes me emotional sadness I can recall being in funeral and burial of my maternal grandfather in Mexico when I was seven and it was very tearful everything black for Catholic chapel everything in Latin. Then the second funeral it was here on Oddfellows cemetery my soldier stepfather whom I was very greatful to because he adopted me and gave me a greencard. The third one was my boyfriend brother at 17he hanged himself in the garage. That's all after therapy no more funeralPero gracias por to-do lo bueno que puede Evita a una tragedian Thankyou very much for all the better efforts to avoid bad things from happening to kids specifically those billboard warnings of indoor accident or pool accidents and May they rest in peace . Oh Kari! I am so incredibly sorry for the pain and heartache you, your sister and family had to endure. You know the saying…no parent should ever bury their child. On that note - what an amazing gift you were able to give your sister. I’m sure it wasn’t easy for you, but in true Kari the Mortician style - you didn’t skip a beat. How incredibly stoic of you. How thoughtful and caring. You handled it with grace, while harboring your own heartache. As an Aunt to 11 kiddos and 4 great-nieces, I would’ve done exactly what you did. Losing my husband 15 years ago, taught me a lot about death, dignity and honor. Thank you for sharing. I wish more people understood their choices when it comes to the death of their loved one, especially a child. You simply amaze me. ♥️

Kari, I remember that video, and it was very sad. I like how in this video you said it was ok to do all those various things. A family needs to do what they need to do to work through their grief. If they need to have party to celebrate the deceased's life go for it. Where is it written that says things need to be gloomy? If anyone is offended by doing something like that, well, as a wiseman once said, Tell them to "blow it out their ..,." Keep up the good work Kari. You bring more comfort and knowledge about things like this than anyone else.

I drive a red ford flex and I’ve always joked about my hearse; but damn it shocked me to think of a precious baby girl’s body in a casket in my car. Losing a child is a crazy thing. My family lost a 10 year old boy suddenly in June 2004, to an aneurysm. The family did everything our way and the funeral home was so accommodating to us and helped arranged for his classmates, teachers and their families to come in for their own viewing and getting the school counselor in with them. His death is still like a punch in the gut some days but mostly it’s the beautiful, happy memories now.

That story of your Niece Kelly death was one of the first videos I watched of yours. Thank you for all the education you have shared with us over these many videos. Even if it has been a couple of years, that time is frozen in time, so senseless for a father to kill his own child. Mentally, illness strikes in so many ways and hurts so many families. My brother did the same with my nephew who passed away at eight years old of Medullablastoma. He dressed him. Carried him to the hearse and followed to the funeral home. They let my brother carry him inside and lay him in the casket as they closed and sealed it. My brother didn’t want anything else more done to his little body as he was poked and prodded the last three years with chemo, radiation, two surgeries. My brother said ‘no more’. No embalming. And we/he buried him the next day after the service. As we left the grave site my brother stayed behind and help with the burial. We were all numb but this somehow helped my brother. He was with/took my nephew for every chemo and radiation treatment. Also, the army somehow arranged for a figure eight to be done while we were at the grave site…another story. My brother would not have it any other way.
