Shark Detect Pro Cordless Vacuum
Amazon have sent across the new Shark Detect Pro cordless vacuum for me to test, and I have a great benchmark to gauge it against. For the last year I've owned Shark's flagship model, the Stratos 120 minute vacuum, which I've found to be an exceptionally good cleaner. Expensive, but good.
How does the new, lightweight, offering from Shark fare?

The product reviewed was supplied to me by Amazon as a member of the Amazon Vine programme. I was invited into the programme in 2019, having been a contributer of reviews on Amazon since 2003. During those twenty years I have carried out over 1,000 reviews and was a Top 25 reviewer until Amazon discontinued the Hall of Fame leaderboards. I get no financial incentive for my reviews, nor do I have any contact with the manufacturers. I have no time constraints on using the product so can spend as long as I like getting to know a product. All of the opinions in my reviews are entirely my own, and I can assure you that if I will just as likely to tell you the flaws of a product as I am the positives. Thanks for watching.

I wish I had the energy for a heavier vacuum like the Stratos. It looks great. But I know my 5.5 Tineco was enough for me. The Detect Pro around the same weight as the Tineco,,but better weight distribution and should be stronger, esp. w/ the boosting system. The Detect pro has the best edge cleaning, because of that boost, that I've ever seen a cordless, or most vacuums have.

Yeah, I really do like the Stratos. Even with both at my disposal I always use the Stratos unless it’s very small clean up job.

Thank you for the comprehensive video. I really enjoyed it. Could you give me your opinion which one has the stronger suction power? That is very important to me. Thank you so much. Happy New Year.

My personal belief is that the Stratos is the stronger outright vacuum on all metrics other than weight and manoeuvrability. The suction is decent on the Protect, but the Stratos simply has more grunt and picks up an incredible amount of dog fur every week. The Protect has a place in the market, the weight of it being the main selling point, but for me the Stratos is the clear winner in my house with the demands of a perpetually moulting border collie.

Thank you so much for the quick response. You have convinced me to get the Stratos. Much appreciated. Do you live in England? I used to live in Chester but now reside in Canada@@ToughMonkey

@@ToughMonkeyI the detect pro is currently £189 on Amazon so if at this price and you were to buy another battery would you recommend it over the stratos? The stratos is very heavy I feel but like you say maybe it’s a good heavy once you get use to it!
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 5 месяцев назад
@@markhamill8016 I see the deal and it is a very good price, a quick check on Keepa shows it’s the lowest it’s been on Amazon. I can’t see where you could get a second battery for it though. I’ve just been on Shark’s website and don’t see any obvious signs of a second battery for it. If you are interested in the Detect Pro it’s worth noting that while it’s £199 on Shark’s website I did get a pop-up offering 10% off if you sign up to their newsletter, so it’s potentially £180 on there. Would I have it over the Stratos though? In a straight side-by-side battle, I’d go with the Stratos almost every time. And I’m saying that with a Detect Pro sitting in the cupboard at the top of the stairs and a Stratos sitting in the cupboard at the bottom of the stairs….I always do the vacuuming on a Friday night with the Stratos. If I just want to hoover up something small upstairs then yes I will grab the Detect Pro, but in all other applications I’ll take the Stratos. Including vacuuming the car. That said, at £180-189, there’s a huge gulf in price between the two. I paid £385 on a Black Friday deal shortly after it was released, but normally it’s around £500. While I think it’s brilliant, I don’t think you could justify over £300 difference between the two.

Hi do you find that the triangle inside the dust collector bin collects dust and can’t be emptied?

Hi nice video thanks, do you find that the triangle inside the dust collector bin collects dust and can’t be emptied?
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey Месяц назад
Hi, sorry for the delay in coming back to you, I’ve been on vacation. Do you mean the metal triangle thing that’s fixed inside the dust collection bin? Yeah, it’s a bit awkward that. The entire bin unit can be removed by pressing the release buttons on either side and I just tap it vigorously inside my garbage bin to release the dust. It’s amazing how quickly dust gathers in there, and the triangle-shaped filter immediately in front of the motor. I don’t use this vacuum that much, preferring the Shark Stratos generally, yet it still seems to need cleaning out regularly.

I have a slightly older shark cordless and nowadays I'm lucky to get 10 mins run time out of it. Think I'll stick with the corded!

The other Shark that you see me using in the video is the one I’ve owned since November 2022. The battery life hasn’t degraded too much. A little, but not massively. The percentage of the battery never goes above 70% even after fully charged, but it generally conks out in a similar place to where it did when it was new. Because that’s a twin battery model I don’t have any problem with battery life, but if it was a single battery then I very much would. I can’t imagine ever going back to a corded vacuum. Battery powered is just so much quicker and convenient, and the same goes for my lawnmower. The Cleva Lawnmaster that I’ve got is absolutely superb. But the caveat to that is that I would never consider buying a single battery version of any cordless device.

The Tineco set I ordered has 2 batteries. I ordered this because they offered me half price for the full unit w/ the self empty station, so I jumped on it. I absolutely hated emptying my Tineco, because things get stuck, your hands get filthy and you have to clean and swap an internal filters every time yu empty. I'll likely get a second battery when I can. That's why I've never minded battery powered, because w/ the model I had and this one, it's so quick to swap them, and still a world easier than dealing w/ plugs coming unplugged and dragging them around. Had the Tineco around 4 years, and batteries are still pretty good. One poops out quicker, the other is still strong.

Did you have it in auto-detect mode?
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 7 месяцев назад
Yes, it defaults to that when you turn it on. It adjusts the power of the motor according to what it detects. You can override that by cycling through Eco mode and Turbo.

Some of the other reviewers are noting there's a difference w/ the Detect Pro basic model, like you have, but if you get it w/ the empty station, it's a stronger battery w/ longer life. And apparently you have to look out for the Walmart knock off version, becasue it's not quite as good either.
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 4 месяца назад
I think there may be regional differences. I can’t see anything on Shark’s UK website, or any of their vendor’s websites, that suggest there is a difference. But, that doesn’t mean that other countries don’t have different specifications.

The detect pro with the self empty has a bigger battery and you get 60 minutes of run time, I don’t know why they couldn’t put the same battery on the one without self empty
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 7 месяцев назад
No, I'm pretty sure it's the exact same battery. I've looked through the website at all the specifications and reviewed the product manual, which is the same for both versions of the cleaner, and it's the same battery stated. The stated run time of both vacuums is 60 minutes, which I have not gotten anywhere close to, at all. Either on this vacuum or my other Shark vacuum, I get about a third of that claim. That's across a variety of floors so a "real world" use, rather than a laboratory condition perfect scenario where it must have been on a spotless floor running at lowest power the entire time.

@@ToughMonkey I saw another review on the 2 litre self empty one and they had the normal detect pro and the self empty one side by side and the self empty has a bigger battery but maybe that’s only on the American one
@ToughMonkey
@ToughMonkey 7 месяцев назад
@@uhno123no9 it is possible that different markets have different specifications. But I would still be very wary if it’s saying the run time is 60 minutes. The other Shark vacuum I have is the flagship, top of the range machine with their best battery (in the UK at least), and it still doesn’t go beyond 23 minutes, usually closer to 15-16 minutes after a year of use.
