We bought the lifetime warranty when we purchased ours. Same model & color you have. That hose broke on ours & they sent a whole new head to us. While we were waiting for it to arrive my wife cleaned all the filters. New part arrives wife changes it out and now the the selector switch for the floor settings isn't working. But we thought it was something with the motor. So shark sent us a new motor. Put the new motor on. Still wasn't working. So now they are sending us a whole new vacuum. BUY THE WARRANTY!!!!!

Thank you for this post! I could not get the right size hose anywhere and destroyed the current one taking it out of the carpet head. I also had a floor attachment with the same hose that was broke and it was much longer when I opened it up. I was able to splice and create two new hoses with the old one and the 1.5" I bought off Amazon that said it fit the NV681...which it clearly did not. I did have a conversation with Shark...which told me to buy two new heads to the tune of $175. Can't thank u enough for this idea!!

Sorry for the late reply. I am glad this helped. Be sure to watch all 3 videos because it was a learning curve for me.

John, did you watch all 3 videos? It was all lessons learned as I went. It will be a lot easier if you remove the floor nozzle as I show in part 2. Part 3 has the step by step procedure. Remember to use a shot of WD40 to help the new hose screw in as one of my viewers has suggested. Let me know how it turns out. Paul

@@paulromsky9527 I did not watch all 3, I didn't have to take it all apart I just used an old piece of hose like to you did and twisted it in from the bottom. Working great now. Thanks again.

Seriously... I got made and just ordered a new vacuum... after it didn't even work like my old one I got mad and started researching how to replace that on my old vacuum. This has got me further.. I'm still stuck on one piece. Hopefully I can figure it out... so I can return the new one I bought.

@@hollyspicer-lear9027 Did you see my other videos in my play list on this subject? It was a learning process. I just found out yesterday that the hose that was recommended was smaller than the original. The hose you will need is 25mm outside diameter. Not sure where to find it. You can write to me at romsk22@gmail if you need any help.

I have a 800 series and the upper end was thread but was also glued. I have a 6 inch hose that does fit in diameter but not in length.

@Brook Hernandez. Watch all 3 videos first. I learned the the whole floor nozzle disconnects from the vacuum - I forgot I was designed to be used as a canister vacuum. So make sure you remove that floor nozzle to make it easier. You don't need to pop off that little plug or cut any wires. You can find replacement hoses on line and not have to adapt it like I did. Keep me posted if you decide to fix it.

Do you know how to fix the head on this vacuum? I'm not sure what happened to mine but when I pick up the vacuum it just flops around
@paulromsky9527
@paulromsky9527 Год назад
Do you mean the head flips up and down loosely, or all around? It should move up and down rather smoothly but snap in the upright position, it should also wiggle back and forth but not too much. Can you post a video so I can see exactly what it is doing? If it broken, you can get replacement nozzles that snap in for about $75 to $100.

I did not realize that either end of the hose was screwed into it’s end fitting. I just ended up further destroying my already badly damaged hose. I was under the impression that the hose was epoxied to their end connections. I’ve had the machine a long time and except for the low quality of this component, I have nothing bad to say about it. The design, features, power, quality of plastics… all of very high grade. This hose is the weakest link. It should be a thicker and more supple plastic with a woven fiber laminate layer to provide durability.
@paulromsky9527
@paulromsky9527 2 года назад
@mercoid. I agree, this hose is the only bad feature of this vacuum. Woven fabric is great idea! Shark should offer the hose as a replacement part and not the whole floor nozzle. I think the hose is held in with a little hot glue. Working the hose back and forth may help. Mine had only a tiny bit of glue so it twisted out easily...at least I figured out it was a reverse thread (turn to the right to remove). I would not worry if you mangled the hose pulling it out. Some have theirs glued in so much they have to unravel and destroy the hose to pull it out. How did your repair go? I have replaced the hose twice now on the Shark. Last week my wife accidentally sucked in water from the cat bowl with the wand. She didn't get more than a cup but the vacuum would not shut off - I had to unplug it. So I opened up the handle - that was a pain - and there was an electronic board inside. The switch was fine. Without a schematic I did not attempt repair, so we bought a new Shark. Lighter weight, more suction, a bit more flimsy, but new. I put the old one back together to put it in storage for parts... the dang thing started working again. I think there is a relay inside the main unit, it must have stuck and freed up as I worked on the vacuum. I remember my grandmothers had Kirbys and Electroluxs. If they ever had a problem (which was rare) a repair man would fix it and replace only the part that broke. They sold the Kirby decades ago, I'll bet it is still working. The Elextrolux was given to mom. When she got a new vacuum, she gave it to me. I took the hose retractor off and turned it into a handy self-retracting extention cord. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

My crazy vacuum did not have Phillips screws, but small, Star-shaped ones.
@paulromsky9527
@paulromsky9527 4 года назад
Heidi, Those star shaped screws are called “Torx”, you can get an inexpensive screwdriver set at the major big box or local hardware stores. Your local store may be more help in helping you pick out a set. It was believed at one time in the 80’s Torx was introduced to keep people from opening up things...it didn’t last... everybody has them now [smile]. Make sure you watch all 3 videos first. Write if you have any problems. Paul

It’s always good to have a Torx set in your tool box.

If no 1 has suggested a flat screwdriver will work.
@paulromsky9527
@paulromsky9527 4 года назад
@@angelalong5114 A small flat screwdriver may work but you will most likely strip the screw and mangle the screw driver tip. Plus the flat blade must be a very specific size (non standard). I have a watch maker flat blade drivers set that go between #0 and #2, about 10 sizes - but I would never miss use them. I try to use right tool for right job - unless it is a life threatening emergency. I have not seen a photo of the screws but they sound to be Torx (Star). It’s a good idea to get a Torx screw driver set for home repair.

@@paulromsky9527 those small torx screws are not standard torx. They are the security type that require the torx bit to have a hole in the center.. You can get them in those little "special bits" kits, they come with all kinds of security bits and not just torx, they include a couple other types as well..
