American Porsche tuners Sharkwerks have created two outstanding 4.1-litre 997s in both 997.2 GT3 RS and 997.1 GT3 form. Here, I drive both modified 911s back to back to discover if they really are the best Porsche 911s of all time.

I followed a Sharkwerks White GT2 Porsche up Meyers Grade Rd towards Gualala, CA driven by Ralph and I was on my CBR1100XX. Nice guy and great car.

I’d love to experience that power plant in a boxster. Better balance, no need for a giant wing, hear the motor better and be in the element.

Great video! My hope is that Sharkwerks works their magic on the upcoming 718 cayman gt4 mid engine, maybe bore the engine out to 4.3 litres then increase the redline and output of the car to get close to if not exceed the current gt3.

Their 981 Cayman GT4 is a work of art, really has improved on the factory car immensely. If they do it again on the 718 platform I've no doubt it'll be sensational.

@@9WERKSTV Yeah I agree the corrected the odd choice in gear ratio's and gave it a bit more pep but like you said I'd imagine the moment the get to work on the 718 gt4 then we'll see something special..

Both brilliant engines with plenty of torque and a strong pull from low-revs right to the redline. Sharkwerks engine edges it for me due to its razor sharp throttle response, I'd also say it's freer-revving too.

It is not possible that a 4.1 liter engine of same origin would have over 110 Nm more than it's 4.0 version. Someone has measured something wrong. No question - basic IC physics. You can increase power by going to higher rpm but you can not increase torque without increasing volume flow in someway (volume, volumetric efficience, charging). There is no way one could improve vol efficience so much that torque would go up 25%. Someone has got numbers now wrong - and it is not an opinion.

@@9WERKSTV Usually we get a ballpark figure for atmo-spark ignited engines by simply taking the volume, say 1.6 l -> 160 Nm, 4100 ccm -> 410 Nm. Nowadays it is usually abit more than this. The power is basically torque * revs, so to the higher revs the engine is tuned the more power. Also if you have, say, 2.0 liter engine with charge boost coefficient of 1.4 you get about equavalent atmo of 2.8 l -> 280 Nm plus a bit more. There is actually very little means to play with torque other than effective volume flow. That's why they say "no substitute for cubic inches". Diesels give more torque basically due to higher combustion ratio and the torque band (also efficiency band) is wider as there are no restricting pressure drop devices (butterflyes, guillotines) in the inlet channels. Today most diesels are artificially torque limited to enhance engine life span. Electric motors are often constant torque up to a rev point after which they turn to constant power engines (=torque drops with revs).

Thank you very much! Choosing between them is so difficult… the GT3 is the greater engineering feat as it's had more ground to make up on the RS, but I'd take the RS purely for that colour combo. I think it's absolutely stunning.
