It doesn't matter if you are not one of the world's greatest singers, if you write great songs you will be remembered forever. Brilliantly done Steve Earle.
Well, I always have. Thank you, Ireland, for the music. And the poetry. And, you know, for keeping Europe literate through the Dark Ages. And the induction coil, all the actors. And stout.
I have always been a huge fan of Steve Earle but here is a case where an artist song has transcended the artist itself which is a great complement. For all the Irish people that have embraced this song as their own, the song now belongs to Ireland.
Well... he was living in Galway , wrote the song about a girl living in Galway who played in their circles. He was piss@d off that she would not get romantically involved with him. So yeah..... it can be an irish song
@@bryankellyM yeah she is still singing and playing in Galway and Dublin. Has dueted Fairytail of New York with Shane McGowan..... Not sure if anything actually happened with Steve but he sure had the hots for her. 👍
@@jimbanda Several years back, I went to a music festival in Kemptville, Ontario and saw Steve Earle play. I believe she may have performed with him during that performance based on comments he made before the song.
@@markythompson I don't think anyone was suggesting otherwise and just that the OP was presumably talking generally, being the song's title, accompanying musicians and musical styling, with much of American Country music having its roots in British and/or Celtic Folk music. Although I personally think people tend to go a little OTT regarding patriotism anyway, considering it's not as if they had any say in the matter. You might just as well say that you are proud of your eye colour or height.
A fabulous song, by a fabulous songwriter--from the Lone Star State of Texas. We love the Irish and their music here in Texas and the fact that the Irish have adopted Steve and Nanci Griffith (and Patty Griffin? Maybe.) is just pain cool. God Bless the Irish!
Steve's version of this is the one and only!! You can see how emotional he get's a minute into it . Sharon just looks up to him as if to say...'This really happened' Genius!
I am in love with this song. I just lost my husband 12 weeks ago and this song cheers me up a bit. I just saw the movie "PS:I Love You" 2 weeks ago and now playing this song about 10 times each day!!
I come originaly from Ireland and have met Black haired girl with blue eys. I now live in scaninavia and have met blonde girls with Brown eyes. Isnt life beautiful.
We do not need to define what is or isn't Irish music, country music, folk music or anything else. We only need to recognise and love great music and this is that
Ian Wilson I have to give a full-throttled “amen” to that sentiment. Just saw him this week for an acoustic set in Chicago. Two hours of pure revelry in song.
I've lived in Ireland for the past 2 years and just went to Galway for the first time. It was beautiful. I'm leaving Ireland in 3 days, and I'm very sad to go. I'm from New Zealand but Ireland feels more like home.
I just want to say that this song, this performance of this song, and the video of the performance of this song are perfection. This thing is a treasure.
This is such a freaking great song, and I have never heard it played anywhere, never on the radio...I heard it on Sharon shannon album and replayed it about 20 times the first time i heard it...
In 2014 I traveled to the UK and Ireland. I made sure to include a stop in Galway to take a stroll on the Salt Hill prom. I could hear this song in my head the whole time.
Just got back from Galway, must have heard this song a dozen times. Very nice song, and it captures the joy and vibrant character of Galway and its people. And oh, those dark haired, blue eyed Galway girls - have mercy!
wow. cant believe this. im a baltimore native, grew up in VA. started watching the wire cause simply put i miss baltimore and this guy's character stood out the way he's so short w bubs. and i found this song while living in VA -- ive listened to it the past 9 years on my spotify account and i am just now finding out THIS is who Steve Earle is.
My Texan Air Force Airman met my mom from Galway while stationed in England. She had just arrived with her sister. My mom was his Galway girl in 1957 and remained so until they both passed away.
every time i listen to this it makes me cry...i wonder why...stevie earle and all the others give a faultless performance here...thank god for music like this
Steve Earle is a true artist, Musician, Song Writer, And Singer, he is a true inspiration. Your an incredible human being, thank you for all the wonderful music. My hats off to you Steve Earle.😎
Thank you, we love Texas as well, Steve is a amazing and it is always nice when someone write a song about your country. The Usa has always being very good to the people of ireland, we are very thankful for your support. Many Irish families live in the usa and it so nice when a country as big as the usa welcome them with home arms and welcome are traditions, Thank you again Corky246
'twasn't always so. Contrary to a lot of beliefs, initially, there was more prejudice against the Irish than any other ethnic group in American history.
@@jchinrichs3461 That was just a legacy from the era when the US was ruled by the Brits. That prejudice disappeared over time after the Brits were kicked out.
This is awesome. Sharon Shannon is an amazing accordion player. Great to see Ray Fean on drums here. He is the brother of legendary Irish group Horslips, and has now replaced their original drummer. PS. Don't knock the Mundy version. It is hugely popular in Ireland, and anything that gets people listening to this music has to be a good thing.
Quand je suis triste, Galway girl me ramène à la bonne humeur et la joie de vivre, merci pour cette chanson, j'en ai 161 versions une comme l'autre un chef d'oeuvre de la musique populaire
Steve is rightly proud of this piece. Rarely do I see performers so happy singing a song. It is a piece of writing that is sly yet heart warming. It got me to pick up the penny whistle. Like most of Steve's stuff it is relatively simple to learn. He is a master of writing in that way; simple chord structure, easy to sing lyrics and the big payoff is usually in the lyrics. From the Devil's Right Hand to Copperhead Road to Have Mercy his music will live on.
hey in there shug....you got lots of years, if you want to live in Galway, it will happen....i was born and raised in TX, lived here in MN for 22 yrs, but i know i will end up back home one day....and, hey you just listen to the incredible Steve earle when you get down, i'e loved this feller for ever and ever...
Earle is a class act.i saw him play here in the Shetland isles many years ago it was the best concert I've ever been to the tickets sold out faster than any other singer who has been here .
