Shattered Trust: A Daughter's Struggle to Overcome Her Father's Betrayal 

My step dad did that to me 32 years ago.I left the next day, i was only 15. My mom did not divorce him(i did tell) until i was 36 years old. I am 47 now and finally started counseling. I say all this,only to say that please dont be hard on yourself. Your a freakin' survivior! I pray that you continue to heal,and smile, and live a beautiful life!🕊️✌️

When I told my mom at 7 yrs old about it. She took me to the police department and told them she didn't want me. I grew up in a beautiful foster home. Thank you mom because as an adult I understand that you couldn't do it for me and for that I am grateful.

This was so hard to watch and listen to. I can never fully trust a man around my kids. I’ll always be watching.

I am 59 years ild and you just said out loud what I never could. I've had extensive counseling, I'm on the other side but I have never told anyone living or dead what my father did to me.

As a single Father to three kids including a 14 year old girl, this turns my stomach and I bleed for this poor girl who had to go through this. Looking at your own kids as sex objects is just a place where most minds would never venture, I would like to believe. I could never do something like this to any of my kids or ANY kid. Just vile.

I admire the strength and resilience of this woman. Her capacity to see it as it is and to articulate it clearly, simply and bravely. She's so strong. We need people like her in this world. Strong survivors.

So sick and creepy how he “planned” the start of the abuse for when you could be manipulated to keep quiet. THEN to play mind games and punish you like it was your fault. Sorry that he was also molested as a child, but that is NO excuse for what he did to you all those years. Oh you sweet soul… I want to hug you and thank you so much for your transparency, honesty and voice. You are brave AF! I’m in my forties. My ex-husband shot and killed himself two days after our biological daughter disclosed 1.5 years ago. I married him because I thought he was safe. He was a police officer. I met him while I worked at the same department. He was a cop 25 years on the day he killed himself. I’m profoundly proud of my daughter. I am proud of every little human that has the courage to speak. I can’t imagine the fear. And so many children are not believed. So many perpetrators are slapped on the wrist or worst, never convicted. I mourn the husband I thought I had. I left him five years into our marriage because of his verbal and emotional control and abuse. And he was not kind to my son. I applaud you for speaking your story, which emulates the exact same scenario behind way too many closed doors. Thank you for your courage! I hope you reach out somehow … I’d love to talk and collaborate. Suicidal manipulation is a thing and putting money into that is nonsensical to me. There clearly needs a lot of work done to better our infrastructure and our systems in place. And the police should never have a celebration of life for a sex offender… but his department sure did. And invited my daughter. It’s maddening. I’m ready to fight this $hit. It’s gotta stop. Every story gives power back. Every truth stops this sickening cycle. 🫶🏼💕

I’m very sorry this happened. As a seven year old girl and having well checks and visiting the doctor it’s hard to believe the doctors or nurses didn’t see trauma.

Thank you so much for sharing your WHOLE story. I was riveted when you honestly said “your body reacts”. I knew a 14 year old boy who was molesting younger boys. I was a case manager at the time and he was in a group home. When I tried to explain how that behavior was (whatever I said to him), he replied with “but it doesn’t HURT, it feels good”! It *always* hurts, and I am so sorry it happened to you and he was so brutal. My heart breaks for the little girl, the teenager, the young lady. My oldest sister went through this. She demonizes me to this day for reporting to cps when I was 13. Sad that my sister can’t realize I was not trying to shame her I wanted to help my family I was scared for all 6 of my other siblings….. and myself who was also being physically abused badly. She has hurt me deeply in adulthood and I have cut her off.

My step dad used to always make comments about my figure in front of my mom & says how we used to take baths together when I was little he also make a move on my oldest sister I’m just starting my healing journey

No, a child can't "seduce" an adult, ever! It's ALWAYS nobody's fault but the perverted adult's. I'm so angry on your behalf and so sad for every thing that was stolen from you.

Never assume you know that a person is doing unthinkable things to a child & say well “I don’t have proof. And do nothing”. Your gut instinct is telling you that it’s happening & report them! If you confront them they now need to make excuses or move away suddenly & the abuse continues for the victim. Just confronting the victim will tell you it’s true despite their them denying it as it will be written all over their face & body. We are taught to not get involved in other peoples business but that is wrong. I too was SA as a child by a man my father placed me with & I told people but no one not even my dad wanted to hear of it & called me a liar & left me there to be abused over & over. My dad admitted to me at 21 that he knew the guy was a molester & had told him not to touch me but still left me there. I hate my dad to this day despite him dying years ago. My life has been a struggle & still is despite the years of therapy. What I would have given for just one person to speak up for me, to protect me, to love me enough to help me. I was 5 when it started & it went on for years. I have kids & I have fiercely protected them & have an open door policy where they can talk to me about anything & I won’t get mad or upset. They know I was SA & abused in other ways & how hard life has been for me. Suicide has been a constant thought throughout my life & they don’t know that part. I am still here because of them, because I don’t want to hurt them by taking my life. They are my saviours. If you suspect any type of abuse don’t walk away from it. You will save a precious life!

Just want to say I am dad to two teen stepdaughters, and I have never and would never do anything like this to them. If anyone did, I would definitely go to prison for beating the perp slowly with a bat. I am so, so sorry this happened to you. this is so truly horrifying- what a sick, twisted, evil monster of a man. words will never be good enough, i am so sorry. you should’ve been protected + cared for, and you deserve so, so much better than what life has given you. how could so many people turn a blind eye + let a child down in such a horrific, traumatising way? how do they live with themselves?

This is somewhat similar to what happened to me. I totally empathize with anyone that has gone thru this. It’s heartbreaking and devastating. The damage it causes is beyond comprehension at times. This is one thing I wish didn’t exist in the world . 😢

This does sound emotionally confusing. The only person who cares about you is also a person who abuses you, so that becomes "normal" behavior. People find themselves in abusive relationships over and over again.

I always told both of my children did if anybody ever touched them that way I don’t care who it is you tell me even if that person was their father.

I went through this with both my dad and step dad. My heart breaks for what you went through. I wish I could help others that have been through this. That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do, have a women’s group where we can talk without being judged or feeling awkward or uncomfortable cuz we’ve all been there and we get it. You are amazing! My dad also passed away and right before he did I finally got to tell him to stop denying what he did and I told him what I remembered and he cried and apologized…my stepdad…he just says I won’t talk about it! He’s a scumbag and now has a child of his own and I feel so scared for her or her friends.

I felt so guilty for having good feelings. A Counselor helped me, she said because I had a normal body. A child is not emotionally ready for adult feelings. I'm so so sorry you had to live through this. We are victims to Victorious!

I wasnt molested by my dad but emotionally abused. He was a drug addict and he would call and taunt me and ask me where he should shoot up because the veins in his arms collapsed. He would also tell me that his then wife didnt want me in their house and he would make me sit on the porch no chair during visits. My name was not put in his obituary.

Feb 29, 2024 With all the illicit problems in the USA now, like child sex trafficking, I still find it disturbing we can not protect our children, our little girls from molestation. This current administration and congress are the most heinous to date. Until good Americans make molestation stop, this tragedy will perpetuate. I am sorry for your pain and suffering.
