This is the sort of thing I would've expected to see in the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary we're apparently never getting. :/ (I've tried asking Shawn about it and even the director Sarah McCarthy more than once, but no one's talking)
There was much more to this. Sonics should've never traded him. Suspend and discipline him. There should've been more help given. The Sonics left after just 10 years after his trade in 1997.
1:50 I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. WOW, Peter Vescey looks YOUNG!! When I was in my 20s, Vescey was "old" because he was in his 40s! Of course, me at 49 in 2022, I look AWFUL. I was decent from 20-27.
What Will Shawn Kemp Say About Jamon Kemp Going To Be A Future Chicago Bull Wearing Number 40 In The Chicago Bulls Jersey Jamon Kemp In The United Center Running Around With The Chicago Bulls
Peter Vescey is too real, too negative, too much of a investigative reporter to be around today. He was an asshole but he was great at his job. Most of the former players that get on TV now just kiss ass to other players, provide nothing substantial and played the game but can't articulate it. Only Barkley is worth watching
I'd be more pissed at Sonics management for giving that talentless hack Jim McIlvane a ridiculously bloated contract while refusing to give the highly underpaid Kemp a better contract, management has nobody to blame except themselves for Kemp becoming so unhappy and wanting out.
Even IF it was Shawn's fault (it wasn't) - they still traded him for an all-star in return (Vin Baker). It makes no sense to hold it against Kemp that that team didn't win
