Bodybuilding shows are weird. They’re not about having the best physique, per say but about having the most mass, best separation and conditioning, while hitting specific poses. Shawn never played the mass game so he was always “discriminated” against if you will but, man was his physique the most aesthetically pleasing.

Shawn and Levrone were both powerful and aesthetic, but Dorian Yates got all Olympias back then. Why? Only judges can tell, for me and all of my bodybuiding buddies these two were the best. Each of them deserved at least couple Olympia titles.

Yeah, it’s frustrating. I get it’s called “bodybuilding”.. but I believe it should be about more than size and conditioning. Aesthetic should mean more. When you look at Shawn standing next to Dorian, 99% of people say Shawn *looks* better

The best bodies and gyms of the past. Shawn Ray was one of my favorite bodybuilders when I started weight training. I used to keep him on my mind as I trained in the 80's and 38 years later I continue to use the old school training principals and have attained an incredible physique at my age! Thanks for sharing this inspirational video!

Come on man, as much as I think greatly of Dorian Yates, Shawn should have won at least one Olympia, he was the cover boy for muscle mags in the 90s. Before RU-vid and seeing these guys in real-time all we had was flex and muscle and fitness and this guy stood out the most.

About as good as it gets. N guys from the old days had much smaller shoulders than guys today, I think that is a big part of the classic look n looks better that way

You deserved to win at 5'7 the physique you had is just aomething I can only dream of. So instead I lift heavy out of emotional release and gain enjoyment because my body is natural and doesn't look anything close to steroid usage.

they dont like to have to many champions, they pick one, usually the one who deserve in the right time and never let him till it's a zombie. except Jay Cutler and Dexter, all other MR.O won even when their body was almost destroyed. Dorian, Ronnie and even Phil Heath was a clown in his last MR.O
