Being the daughter of a Dr who understood the concept of nutrition at a high level is one of the biggest blessings in my life. My Dad taught me to not be cheap on food. I will always cherish going to the vegetarian restaurants with him as a child. I grew up in Mexico. We ate fresh unprocessed food daily. My biggest challenge living in the US is teaching my husband and children the same.
It’s truly a blessing to have grown up with such a strong foundation of understanding and appreciation for nutrition I know transitioning those values to your family can be a challenge but it’s a wonderful opportunity to share the importance of wholesome eating with your family!
I was thrilled to see that you were having Shawn back on the show! He immensely changed the way I eat and shop for groceries the last time he was on this show. His book, Eat Smarter, has more notes, underlines, highlights and sticky notes than any other book I've ever read. He is a wealth of knowledge! Thank you for having him on the show again.
Ed, this is one of the most informative, in many ways life changing episodes you have produced...and you have produced many episodes that should be watched over and over and over again. This is one of them!!! Thank you sir!!!
"Just smelling vegetable oils during cooking, the fumes of it, can damage your DNA" .. Wow, my mind is blown. I was thinking of working at a fast food chain for some extra money, definitely not going to do that now. Thank you Ed for yet another important educational interview!
It's indeed eye-opening to learn about the potential impact of certain factors on our health. I'm glad you found this episode informative and valuable.
My family rarely ate together around a table.... sometimes around the tv....we've all us kids struggled with various issues including eating disorders, alcohol, drugs, etc....but now I try to have dinner as a family as often as possible and we have foster kids....so glad we're making a difference for our kids just by sticking with "old fashioned" values. 🎉
Eating dinner together with my kiddos was the first requirement I had when I left their dad. I grew up in a household where no one was allowed to miss dinner. My dad didn't care what your plans were. You were sitting down with the family for dinner. Listen this is common sense to me, and I thought most people did this. But in 2018, when I was writing my first book. I was very secluded most days working hard on my business as a single mom and trying to get my book done. So even in my grind. I stopped, put everything away, no phones at the table and we engaged while eating dinner (that I cooked, btw...I didn't order in) . When my kids had friends over. They, too, were required to eat at the table with the family. And every time I got the same response from each kid. they would say "Do you eat dinner like this every night"? And when I said yes "Yes" it broke my heart to hear them say, "Wow, I wish my parents would eat together, we all eat in separate rooms, and sometimes we don't eat at all" What world do we live in that parents have gotten so busy and so self involved that they can't even cook a meal in their own dam kitchen and feed their children. I know it's hard, sometimes, but if you can make the time for your own self indulgence, you can take one hour a day for your offspring. I'm just saying. It will change the way they do life. It will change their perspective on life, and their relationships with others will be healthier, I promise. "A simple meal together each day brings connection and wisdom to the table every day."
I love this episode! It's exactly what I share on my channel: cooking at home with healthy food is an act of love! I teach parents how important it is to cook at home with our kids and share healthy meals with them. ❤❤
I feel like after Covid we are seeing a slow movement back to real eating less mainstream media and people trying to heal their lives which is amazing this is an awesome show
My sister & I was raised at the dinner table & both of us were good kids.. this is a great video !!! The Okinawa people live longer because they all laugh, exercise, eat healthy & are connected!!! It matters!!
Eating healthy is self love. Saying you love yourself in the mirror is great. But true loving yourself is looking after yourself, eating healthy meditation & exercise💪
Yes!!.. Amen!!❤ I've been telling ppl, my family this stuff for years.. they all think I'm nuts because many of those foods were approved by the food and drug administration!🤦🏻♀️ And the thought it wouldn't be sold if that was true! I had a autoimmune disorder, once you get sick you start looking for answers🥰🙏🏼💯🌻
I love eating with my boyfriend, family, friends or colleagues. I live alone, so many weekdays I eat alone. But I cook myself a healthy dinner every evening, lots if veggies, every now and then with chicken or fish. I love cooking and I love cooking healthy meals for myself. I take very good care of myself, being 61 now, after work I love cooking, it’s relaxing for me. And another great thing is, while cooking I get so much art inspiration for my paintings. So that’s a win win 😄👍🏼❤️
Amazing episode Ed & Shawn! I started my journey toward being healthier in 1996 to get off a seizure medication. It has radically changed my healthspan and that of my children. As hard as parenting is, I am proud to say that my husband and I made a conscious effort to all be together for dinner around the table and never allowed the tv to be on. I also was the mom who said the snacks the school was providing for pre-k were highly processed. I took the time to prepare my son a healthy snack and took it with him to school everyday. Interestingly, enough, many of the other kids in the class wanted what my son was having for snack instead of what was provided. If they had provided healthy foods, the kids would have eaten them and learned that that was what was delicious. It goes back to Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart … “ that son is now 21 years old, and a very healthy eater!
This is a phenomenal episode. So inspirational and I love the scientific data backup. I purchased the book after listening to this episode and the recipes are delicious. My whole family loves them!
Ed I love that you once more brought Shawn back on the show!! Your previous conversations have transformed my health and you introduced me to my rolemodel for anything related to this topic (sleep, nutrition, exercise, stress management, ...). I'm forever grateful to know both of you guys. Thanks for doing this podcast, I'm really excited to watch it! :)
Just finished. You've exceeded my expectations. This was a great investment of my time. Even though I've already watched a lot of content from you both there wasn't a second in here that I lost interest. Thanks once more for taking the time to record this episode.
Good morning Ed, Thank you. It is a blessing that you are having guests on in the health and nutrition space especially when performing at ones optimum level starts with ones health. 10 years ago I transitioned our farm over to all organic. Recently having gone down the road to discovering the Proper Human Diet I have been studying Regenative Agriculture. The relationship between what we eat and the soil were it was grown or raised is truly remarkable, particularly in regards to the microbiome and it's effects on our body. The importance of sourcing regenatively grown food has now changed my farming practices going forward. In regards to diet the biggest thing I have experienced in improving my health has been the elimination of foods containing oxalates like almonds and spinach. Switching to raw dairy from pasteurized and consuming a meat based high fat diet has changed my life. Take the time to find your Proper Human Diet. Proper nutrition is truly the first step in maximizing your life. Have a Great Thanksgiving!
I really enjoyed this episode. Shawn has a gift for making this simple… especially enjoyed his perspective on “cheating”… don’t we set ourselves up for failure? Getting the book.
Where can i find this man and his books? I'm absolutely blown away at the similarities that I share with him. I was in the Air Force and I sustained back injury. Turns out I had degenerative disc disease (l4 l5 s1) At twenty one years of age. This resulted in me taking an early medical separation from the air force after three years. As I was getting out of the Air Force. I started to discover natural health and got a job at a local health food store in town. I immersed myself in the literature of a large variety of books and research herbs nonstop. I have become passionate about natural health and fitness and eating healthy and making the food taste great. I'm now thirty one years old and I would say my back is ninety five percent Restored. I exercise a lot and am in Brazilian jujitsu. I eat a lot of the foods that this man is talking about. And I just find it crazy how we have a similar Story.
This was awesome! Def getting the book and using it with my wellness coaching clients! I am looking forward to gathering around a table with my family today!!! Happy Thanksgiving. Everyone!
What a great insights, I learned a lot esp. oil & cooking wares, Thank you! We cook & eat fresh & raw foods only, I despise sugar, I do 16hrs fast, and I have a 1 cheat day but I gain weight fast than losing them hahah
Very informational content. Food makes our body and we need to make sure that we take care of our body by eating non processed organic foods. Btw we all need support to help us with our journey. Wow didn’t realize that most vitamin c that we take are synthetic. Need to do more research on how to live a healthy life.
Wow! Officially my new favorite interview! I’ll be sharing this with all my personal training clients. Sadly, in this 8 second attention span society we live in, not sure they will invest the time. I pray that they do. I preach “Food as Medicine”, “Food is Fuel” to them constantly. You guys hit so many points that are so close to my heart. As someone who grew up poor and still occasionally struggles financially, I was shoutin “Preach!” when you spoke about the health disconnect for those without financial resources. Thank you! 🙏🏼 I’ll be buying the book. Is there a Mylett discount code?
Whole Foods take EBT however I understand that the majority of their profit probably doesn’t come from the groceries. So, therefore I understand why they wouldn’t set up in a poorer area.
Whole Foods store has a lot of junk mixed in on the shelves, unhealthy meats, sprayed vegetables, highly processed foods. There's many good products but you better know what you're buying
I agree with most of what he says but I don’t like that he just throws out “studies” but he doesn’t break them down and explain how “viable they are based on all the parameters and how many people were in the study. I prefer Simon Hill (look him up on RU-vid). He really breaks down studies with a lot more information that actually does not match up with some information on this video.
It's all about the RU-vid money.. this information is all over the internet.. sounds like he's just rereading information from 5 years ago and writing a book for $$$ but hey every industry resells what's already been sold before. Be real careful with honey it's not good for people with insulin resistant
I tell people I try to stick to "God's diet." Meaning, if it was in the garden of Eden, you eat in as close of state as it's always been. Example right off the tree if possible. Avoiding man made chemicals etc.
Sorry but a lot of these studies crack me up. Most of it’s common sense stuff but guys like this try to make it sound more complicated for podcast content. Of course eating with family or friends can be more stimulating…well not in all cases.
Shawn seems like a nice lad but the bit that he left out is cooking any food destroys the life force of the food and all cooking oils are toxic to humans . In elite health circles this has been known about for over 40 years. The stuff that Dr Brian teaches would make Shawn look like he is in elementary school. That said he is young and gifted and will no doubt come up to speed in a few years time.
Thank God for nudging me back to your show after the Tyler Henry episode… All discussions should be on the table and people should use their faith and discernment to decide what is right and wrong. The older I get the more everything becomes clearer. Thanks for what you do, Ed, and I apologize for any harsh criticism.
