Youth also plays a major role in this. People generally write their best stuff between 20-40. That’s general though. He has made great stuff past 40. He’s written so much stuff it’s hard to keep yourself fresh.
@@A5H_01Yep. We actually had to read that book in my senior year honors English class in high school- one novella each quarter. Never in my life did I think I’d be reading Stephen King for an English class.
What, no one gonna mention the shining? Guess it should go to the former transportation provider and purveyor of certain sleep depriving, dietary supplement, mood enhancing stimulant powders to the fine service industry professionals of the Colorado tourist trap, gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park, internationally infamous mile and a half high mountain strong town of Estes Park. The home of the world's only golf course with an "elk hazard" on the scorecard, and a haunted hotel made famous by Stephen King novel - The Shining, which garnered its notoriety from Kubrick's horror thriller by the same name, but which was only based loosely on King's novel, and took so much "creative license" by the film maker in his production - which targeted a blossoming group of movie goers, hungry for the thrills, chills, and nail-biting psychologically exciting entertainment of psycho starring horror flicks such as Norman Bates, or in this case, off season hotel caretaker played by Jack Nicholson, - that it provoked King to produce his own film version of the book that would be a far more detail accurate representation of his novel. So much so, that it was released as a television mini-series, and did not gain rhe fame of Kubrick's feature film, though it did enjoy the acclaim of King fans who had read the novel prior to watching it. There's so much more to tell, but to keep this as short as possible, let me make the point that the point of King's book is the hotel. In fact Stephen himself has said that it was the hotel that told him its story when he visited it for the first time on the recommendation of a friend who did so trying to help the author overcome a serious drought and bout of writers block. After just one night stay, King claims he awoke with the entire story in his head. Btw, that hotel, named by its builder and early 20th Century inventor of the steam powered automobile, inspired the word-play enhanced moniker I use here on RU-vid.
Someone asked Stephen King if he did his work sober, would it have been worse and he said no, it would have been better. There’s a theory that his car accident marked a change in his writing, not drugs or addictions.
@@wesleydraves1281 Not sure I'd call Doctor Sleep a great book. It's a B at best, but I'm shocked he wasn't out of his mind when he wrote Misery, because that's among his best
I’m an ex heroin user that plays guitar and nothing I play sober is anywhere near as raw intense or as soulful as when your high it’s just easier to pour all of yourself into something especially in front of people to criticize
The trick is that drugs really do help in everything but as the time flies by dosage is raised but high isn’t that effective anymore plus pleasure is going below zero .. with time u get bucked )) that’s it .. 3-4 years at maximum before fall down
Different seasons is a collection of short stories - apt pupil, the breathing method, the body (stand by me movie) and Rita Hayworth and the shawshank redemption. The movie dropped a bit of the title but otherwise follows the book very well + some character merging and other additions. So yeah you’re wrong it is correct to say Stephen king wrote the shawshank redemption
his youth the time period of the 70sand 80s and the fact that drugs and alcohol open up access to the personal & collective unconscious and may also grant access to hidden realms of darkness only a high horror writer knows about
lol that’s why all the great rock bands back in the day were so good. The drugs took their mind to another place which gave musical inspiration. I don’t recommend it for one’s health though 😂
Leaving out Mick Jaeger who famously said " if we did all the sh uff people thought we did we'd be dead. Leaving out Keith Richards, who seems indestructable
For artistery i do believe substances can help you be creative. I think the best can find it sober but they usually have a screw loose. Deep thought, deep emotion, pain, magic. Substances and even coming down or sobering up can warp/create
Judging by the way he interrupts Joe I bet he has ADHD, which would explain his creativity and out of the box thinking. But it's important to consult a psychiatrist in such situations, and never take stuff on your own just because your buddy told you it feels nice.
Cause you know what, the musicians that made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years were rrreal fucking high on drugs. : bill hicks
