Me neither. I remember coming home from school and having my grandma tell me the news. I was still in second grade. I remember telling my grandma "She's not dead! Look, she's in the TV!" and having my granny explain death to me. Her death was so tragic that even in a small town in Panamá caused a whole wave of sadness.
Everyone saying “she would’ve been the next (insert singer)”. I get what y’all are saying. We can all agree that she never got to reach her full potential due to her passing but let’s be real. She has reached legendary status without even reaching her full potential & it’s not due to her death either. While yes her death boosted her fame but the fame she reached has stuck with her for the last 25 years now. That’s unheard of unless you carry the talent to captivate people’s attention. That’s very hard to do even more now a days where we live in a world where we only watch 7 second videos and Selena has been breaking records still. Reaching milestones in our modern world with music streaming sites that she herself wouldn’t have even imagined. We shouldn’t be comparing her to other entertainers. She’s NOT the Mexican Madonna, not the Beyoncé of Hispanics, not the Michael Jackson of Latin music etc. She is Grammy award winning artist and 7x Diamond Record selling legendary artist *S E L E N A* She is a music legend and we should be treating her as such. It amazes me how some people still treat her like she’s brand new..
When people compare her to other top artists, they're merely suggesting that her iconic talent and status as an entertainer is on par with them. They're NOT suggesting that she was in any way a clone of something they'd already accomplished or what they were doing. We all know she was a unique artist and in a category all her own. NO female entertainer (let alone latino female entertainer) today or EVER will be as talented as Selena (my opinion). She had vocal, dance, fashion, looks, southern upbringing and personality..EVERYTHING. I mean, I love Beyonce and all, but Selena held her own in a concert WITHOUT all the smoke, lights, and dancers behind her. She didn't need them... HOWEVER, could you imagine if she DID have a budget like that at her disposal? 🤔... biiiitch 😱😎
Somehow you put into words the thoughts and feelings that I have had most of my life regarding the emblematic, super-stardom and status that she has held in my eyes all of this time. You put it all together in your statement and you have no idea how much I appreciate that. :)
It's interesting watching a Black woman react to a Mexican-American woman singing a medley of songs made popular by Black people at a concert of mostly Latinos.
She had one of the most wonderful and versatile voices in the world of music, she went from rancheras to the disco as if nothing. What a talent this girl. RIP
As a proud Houstonian, I want to share this for those who don’t know. This Concert was during The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, which used to be held in the Astrodome before this great monument closed its doors for good. Now, it is held at Reliant Stadium. The Rodeo and Livestock Show is a 6 week event. Starts in Feb. and ends in Mar. Each night it features an Artist. It is huge to be booked for this event. For Selena, it meant she finally made it! 60,000 seats sold out. George Strait got his start on this stage (Amarillo by morning video). I’m not sure what night this was filmed...but as a season ticket holder, I saw all the concerts and she was spectacular! She died on March 31st. Thanks.
@@alexhernandez1219 Yeah, SELENA was a Whitney in the making starting off with her crossover Album. This was going to be like the biggest debut since Whitney. Then it all came to a horrific end at a crappy motel called Days Inn.
To this day, I still cannot listen to the original versions of any of the songs in this medley without thinking of Selena, and how she knocked them out of the park. And I was born in the 70s, loved me some disco and still do, but Selena only made them better. To the point I prefer listening to this medley rather than the originals. She was a gem, a true talent, and still sorely missed. Amor Prohibido is still my favorite song of hers, even if I don’t speak a word of Spanish lol The feel of her music and her voice was what transmitted the emotions of her songs to me. Like, do you have to understand the words to Bidi Bidi Bom Bom to get up and dance and feel good? ❤️
Dancing...hard, singing live, breath control. That is a Pro! She was also so grounded, no ego all...check out her index finger, she had a broken nail and didn’t bother to have it fixed. lol. So many like (cannot speak spanish) me owned her CD’s because her brother Abe (keyboardist) wrote, composed and produced her music. Introducing the electric guitar and keyboards changed the sound from tradition Tejano music. Her music was just damn good to listen to.
I love how one of her earing falls off and she just yanks the other one off snd tosses it. She don't care bout that earring 😂. She was there for her public. I still can't watch her perform without bawling.
My nephew has Downs Syndrome and he loves Selena so much, he's always watching the movie and listens to her music. He may not understand that Selena is no longer with us, but she makes him very happy. My mother's neighbor's daughter to him looked like Selena. Still now, he thinks it's her and he gets very happy when he sees her. I thought I'd share this humorous anecdote here. :)
The fact that people still don't know that 1. Selena's native language was English, she actually did not learn Spanish until she was very well known in Latin America, and she had to due to interviews and her fans. 2. She was a huge Donna Summer fan and she loved disco music hence why she did a disco medley 3. She is very beloved not only in the USA but worldwide. 4. She is the first bicultural icon from the Latino community in spite of the fact that she could not speak Spanish, we are not very accepting of that in Latin America but she was the exception, she was embraced and loved, but still, a third-generation USA citizen born and raised in Texas, so she has both cultural influences. Look for interviews of her in English, she had the cutest southern accent.
Beyonce has an interview where she talks about meeting selena in houston and saying hello but beyonce wasnt famous at the time so she wouldnt knw who beyonce was but beyonce said that she was a fan from hearing her music growing up in texas
That was really cool that Selena got to break through the english speakers at least. Many people know her from her English songs then learned that she started off singing Spanish. She's remarkable, I wish her life wasn't cut short. Us Mexican Americans have a curse it seems like. Richie Valens, Selena, SPM. Every time one starts getting to be up there, they get taken down.
@@heythere3780 6ix9ine too lmfao he was the most famous person in the world for about a year and just lost it all lol that's crazy. We have the worst luck lol
Selena Y Los Dinos started off performing English songs til the father taught them Spanish. Hard to believe that the parents were fluent in Spanish but the kids weren't. SELENA, her husband Chris, and her sis Suzette struggled in speaking fluent Spanish but SELENA was a quick learner even though there were a few bumps here and there lol. Idk about the brother A.B. whether he was already speaking it since growing up. SELENA worked hard and waited patiently in crossing over to performing an English Album as a crossover Artist. It was like an Apple dangling in front of her and just when she was about to grasp it...Such a shame. But her Album did manage to cross over though so I guess we must be thankful for this even if she didn't get to complete it.
Selena was a real one! I'm so happy to say I saw her live here in San Antonio. TRUE STORY.. she really was a great performer & when me & my family went to see her she had brought up children up to the stage "Including my sister". She gave the mic to my sister to sing a portion of Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.
I didn't get to see her in concert but I got to meet her in person and she was so much more beautiful than a photo could contain. She was so friendly, warm and kind. I was 16 and now I'm 41 and I still remember it like it was yesterday. She gave me her autograph and till this day it's one of my prized possessions. I appreciate you appreciating Selena. I just subscribed to your page today. Also los Angeles's azules rock. Glad you are showing them some love
I was at this concert!!!! 😭💜😭💜😭💜😭 i was in 5th grade!!! I still get a little emotional when I hear her Live Album (which includes the entire songs she sang at rodeo) especially when Como La Flor 🌹 comes on (the last song of the performance comes on) she was the best!!!!
I'll honestly never get over the tragedy that should've never happened. Selena was in a league of her own, and will always be in a league of her own. 🌹💜👑🌹💜👑
I am so thankful and blessed that I was able to see Selena in concert ❤️❤️ My mother took me to see Selena in ‘94 for a large Independence Day celebration that was held in South Texas. Apart from her fabulous voice, her charisma on stage was just completely unmatched by any artist I have ever seen❤️❤️
I saw her live. and if you get excited watching her on video...she was the bomb in person. she gave 3 hour shows. very genuine and all live vocals...no lip-synch.
I miss her and her music. Growing up her music was always around. I was fortunate enough to meet her in person not only meet butt danced with her at a graduation dance in corpus Christi. When i was a kid. She was so nice to give a chubby little shy kid a dance. I have her my best moves i could. I remember her laughing at my effort. I'll never forget that dance. Miss you my reyna
My heart is joyous AND heavy at the same time when I watch this. Joyous because of her beauty, extraordinary talent, and her extremely positive vibe. Heavy heart because of her future being ripped away in such a heinous way. I wish she was still with us to see the love we feel for her now, even in 2019. It will never diminish...EVER!❤️💔
I agree. Selena is to mexicans what beyonce has been to black people. A strong talented queen who inspires young girls everywhere. I wish i could have see what ahe would have become. Im so glad you are doing these reactions.
I went to Corpus Christie, Texas a few years ago and visited the Selena Museum it was nice I also got to meet and take pictures with her sister Suzette who is just as beautiful as her sister.
Thank you for your enthusiastic embrace of The Queen of Tejano. I saw her perform live at the Laredo Civic Center on Christmas when she started to blow up as THE Tejano Superstar she became. She's still The Tejano Queen to us. You would have loved her even more. Peace!
Don't know what 2 say?? I'm out of words. She truly was a legend. Is a legend.. I just think where she would be at today???? Imagine!! What a lost to Hispanics no the world. We all miss her .. A Beautiful young talent women..
I am choking up .. listening to Selena, inspired me so much and started singing in spanish as well as english. I love seeing all people from diff cultures discover her, her legacy, her music. She lives on and will for future generations Siempre la Reina ❤🎤
My favourite Selena performance just when you think your happy listening she adds more and more. I smile throughout this whole medley. Amazing rest in peace Selena.
If she had lived, she would have been huge! I showed her to my daughter, who is 17, and she loves her and she wasn't even born when Selena was out there kicking it!
Oh I so love me some Selena. And some India. Girl you're so alive. It shows in your eyes, smile, and real reaction. Thank you. You make me smile, feel, and cry at times. Thank you. Oh and Gethsemane by Steve Balsamo will blow you away. Sending some love from Ohio.
Ugh miss her so MUCH! All natural, genuine, live vocals, dancing in heels, no mic pack or ear piece, no breaks, 1 take. The QUEEN/La REINA 💜👑 great reaction 😀
ah homegirl. I love Selena. And I'm so happy you can appreciate her now. She was taken too soon for sure. I remember growing up and looking up to her. I love her so much.
@@srfx why laugh Rosario at age? You think 37 is old? Don't laugh too hard, you too are growing older every day. And one day you will be a little old lady.
@@thecravehousereview it was 2 months before my 11th birthday. I was there with my mom and sisters. It was so loud! I remember my cheeks hurt from smiling and singing along. Dancing hand in hand with my sisters. (More like just jumping up and down because we didn't know how to dance yet). But I do remember people dancing in the aisles with whatever room they could find. I just know it is one of my happiest childhood memories
I got to see SELENA when she first started off at a small concert of less than 50 people. SELENA's 👑 performance, funny attitude, beautiful soul & genuine interaction with her fans was AMAZING back then... she was the REAL DEAL! I can close my eyes listening to her song 'Como la Flor' & still hear her say at that concert, 'This one is dedicated to all you beautiful girls who've had their heart crushed...remember you are that delicate flor (flower) & i sing this especially for you.' She still gives me goosebumps & sends positive vibes my way everytime I listen to her music. WE all definitely LOVE & MISS The 👑 QUEEN SELENA 👑 To our most beautiful delicate flower ❤ RIP beautiful❤
So talented. She had the pipes, amazing stage presence. It's so tragic that we lost her so young before seeing her achieve the super-stardom that she was destined for.
It still saddens me that only weeks after this concert she was murdered. Her music and legacy will forever live on. I saw her twice and Laredo. Let me tell you, she was freaking amazing! Watching this is hard because then you remember she is no longer with us.
Selena was definitely a passionate singer ....she was also blessed to be in a musically talented family...it still amazes me how naturally gifted and beautiful she was.
I saw Selena countless times in person performing and she was amazing and very friendly I talked to her and she was talking to me kidding around like we were close friends gone to soon rip Selena 😢
I love seeing people react to Selena... the reactions are always so positive and happy... she was so damn special. She had qualities that you don't see in famous people today like hardly EVER... she would have been the BEST...
Selena is a legend, let’s not forget she was also creating her brand as a stylist. She was one of the first artists to branch out into the fashion world. Makes you really think what a mogul she was planning to be. I’m sure she’d be up there with Gucci. This woman thought up everything she wore. She was like Beyoncé and her mom rolled into one. Pure talent!
@@midnyteblues hold up why the comparisons? The music market is big enough for different female artist. I'm a blk woman I love Selena and the representation she brings to her heritage and people around the world. Everytime I come to the comments ppl trying to throw shade on our blk Queen beyonce. That's disgusting and a disgrace to her memory and what she stood for. You see she loved disco black artist.
@@nynurse29 First off, race has nothing to do with it. Second, I never have liked Beyonce. Sort of like the Kardashians and always being thrown in our face. Do I like a few lyrics in some of her songs, yes, but my taste in music is vast and hers is not a voice I can tolerate for more than one song. While others I can listen to all day such as Al Green and Annie Lennox.
