This is probably the reason why frieren isnt seen focusing too much on learning combat (beaides supressing mana and teaching fern etc). Because she probably already learned all she needs to be deadly beyond compare from Flamme. So much so that Flamme apologised for only teaching combat to her. So maybe Frieren is now learning about the more whimsical side of magic since she loves it so much.
True! We only see Frieren lern whimsical stuff, but as you said: She has a whole (human) lifetime of education in ONLY killing demons from the most legendary mage that ever lived.
Flamme had a mindset of a terrorist, so she taught Frieren to see a battle honor as a weakness, but trained her as a combat mage. As a result, Frieren was never proud to be a combat mage, so she started losing her passion for magic. That's what Flamme apologized for.
It's tempting to start feeling sympathetic for Aura as she's starting to put that sword up against her neck... until you remember that horde of headless knights all around them are like that 'cuz Aura did the same thing to all of them
Flamme and Frieren lived in era that's similar to our Roman era because that was a thousand years ago. The current Frieren lived in a fantasy world that's more akin to the Middle Ages. It's how the mangaka/animator is showing us how OLD Frieren really is and how ancient Flamme was to the current age.
If you notice, their names are German. This anime is based off a German story. But thank you OP for pointing the scene was 1000 years ago it was bothering me they didn't clue it.
finaly someone noticed it. somehow its hard for ppl to understand that 1000 years is A LOT OF TIME. there are even ppl who say Frieren is unreasonably strong... like, seriously? she's been there longer than most cities in our world exist, some nations from back then are gone by now. 1000 years ago humatiny didn't have absolute most of currently used technologies, there was no firearm, no electricity, some chemical elements weren't discovered back then(like aluminium), airships of any kind were only a dream, no oil processing, no chemical fertilizers, and the list can go on for literal days... and she was out there all this time learing magic. if anything, she's not stong enough for how much time she spent in her training.
Heiter was low key strong as hell too, even if he wasn’t quite Frieren level. Even when Frieren was restraining her mana, Aura said her mana hadn’t changed much from 80 years ago, she had the mana of a mage with 100 years of training. And Heiter had 5x that amount as a young man.
@macvadda2318 basic calculations and estimates. Frieren Aura (concealed) hadn't changed since she started her journey with the group 80 years ago. Aura had the same mana since 80 years ago. Heiter was a human, so he can only have so much mana during his lifespan. Frieren's mana, while being concealed, was not bad at all. And Heiter said it was a 5th of his own mana, even thoughFrieren had spent a considerable amount of time growing hers. Aura had spent 500 years with her mana and was obviously strong. However when the journey started, Heiter had that much mana and he was probably not even in his 20's. So, for the extent of time he had been alive, he was making most of the time he had in a efficient way.
The Lowtiergod frieren edits have been amazing. I saw one where someone had edited the rant audio INCLUDING the vine booms into the clip. Just a fantastic episode. I also LOVE how we don't get to see how powerful she truly is yet. We see her mana here, but we have no idea what she can do with it, because she won the fight without needing to use it. Hell, I'm caught up with all 116 chapters of the manga, and I don't think we've seen anything CLOSE to what she can actually do.
Flamme (Frieren's teacher) is from the same region the Hero party is from. You just have to remember there is 1000 year difference between 2 timelines. What used to look like Ancient Rome now looks like Medieval Rome. In this show even the small details show the passage of time, I love it.
Bruh frieren and her master was right about demon being stupid, because it never occurred to Aura that frieren is being way too calm about everything, hell frieren saying "are you sure you'll win" was a red flag that aura was too stupid to pick up on lol. Taylor was on a roll at the end lol, that's how you know the ep was good lol
It's also important to note that because Frieren only did something noteworthy in the last 80 years, and because she's a master at suppressing her mana, it's incredibly hard for anyone to tell exactly how long she's been alive for.
People keep asking me if the demons can change, that with a little work the demons can fix their weakness. Its not easily fixable, pride comes before the fall, but their pride is literally ingrained in their very culture and blood. It's like asking lions not to figure things out by who is the strongest. It's their nature. Lugner survived the first slayer run, he DID witness Aura's death and the entire Demon Kingdom's L to the hero party. He survived the Slayer known as Frieren's first rodeo, she is titled with the most kills on the block and HE WAS LIVING IN THOSE STREETS when it happend, front row center seat. He managed to survive her mass murder of demons and Aura and him spent 40 years time recovering from it. What did they learn? Nature is Nature and it is their nature to be demons. Sure they will adapt a little, but it is REALLY hard to go against nature. Lions have raised deer before, look it up, this worked as long as the Lion found other food supplies, eventually though nature kicked in. If he decided to humble himself (wouldn't happen) and accept that "disgusting mockery of a way to fight" as his own (wouldn't happen) and then start supressing his abilities and aura and fooling others, making like a weak fool amongst his peers (seriously the episode explains how unlikely this is). He would STILL act arrogant and prideful and underestimate his enemies in some other field, like believing that since demons are so starbucks of magic, their ultimate killing spell is unstoppable eilte crap. Sora (from No Game No Life) said it best, the reason we Humans survive is because we are inheritedly the weakest. We dont have four legs to run, we don't have strong legs to run, we dont have claws to rend or fangs to tear or muscles to smash or wings to fly or noses to smell or eyesight to locate. We are weak. But because of that weakness, we don't carry the pride of the strong. We have no problem with taking the pride of those stronger than us, and using cheap, cunning, tricks to over come them. Our weakness births innovation, it births a desperation to over come by cunning means. And sure while the strong may take a weekend vacation in our weakness, picking up unfamiliar tools that are beneath them, they will never be able to adapt our strategy as their own because they are not weak. In a street fight, Mike Tyson would use his fist. I would use a metal bat, a knife, a car or a gun and I wouldn't bat an eye in doing so because it's freaking Tyson and I want to survive. Tyson would say that's fighting dirty. Just like the Demons here.
So prideful that you tailored your magic to work in absolutes. Really said my greatest spell is just "whoever flexes harder wins." Crazy. Frieren the Slayer adds another one to her body count and already got another prodigy on the come up. GOAT.
Also I just get more and more scenes showing how much I seem to love Himmel. Himmel is eerily wise and more capable beyond his years. He was able to do so much and to be able to tell she was the strongest mage he has ever met just by a glance its just something I hope we get more into depth with himmel as well.
A cold-blooded thumbnail for a cold-blooded defeat! I was also expecting a flashy well-animated battle like last week, but this one was equally as brutal & symbolic. Aura the Guillotine had to decapitate herself after centuries of killing humans the same way! During the flashback when Flamme was explaining why deception & mana suppression were the best strategies to defeat demons, I thought of the episode when Frieren & Fern faced those monsters in the forest who project the ghosts of loved ones. I remembered Frieren saying to Fern that she was used to seeing Flamme beg for her life. I wondered if Flamme would put on that act to deceive demons in the past. That POV of the flying head was crazy! I agree with Taylor about some fans not deserving good anime! I'm looking forward to the next episode.
I'm pretty sure Frieren wants all the smoke, she surpresses her emotions being an elf and all but she is a slower moving version of John Wick and demons didn't just kill her her dog, they killed her village, family, house, trees, livlihood and THE DEMON KINGS ORDER WAS WIPE OUT THE ELVES. Meaning maybe the reason we only see her is because her master Famme kept her safe the entire time while most the other elves were genocided :(. She likes collecting books, but she LOVES her some demon smoke revenge. Just her version of excited isn't our version of excited. I mean my girl went straight after the smoke in EVERY conformation we've seen with her and demons. PS Bad comparision of demons and Blacks, Frieren and NFL. Demons are literally animals that eat humans and figured out how to use words to lure in their pray. Like a fly trap that uses sweet aromas to lure bugs to their death. Words are very effective against humans (and its worked on you here) and will make you think "what if". But as they've stated a bunch of times, demons themselves stating this, its just their tricks in intice their food to their stomachs, I mean "What's a father? idk just seems to work"
Fieren had several hundred years of mana BEFORE she met Flayme, she trained with her for 60 years and she met the hero party a 1000 plus years after her masters death, training the entire time, traveled with the hero for 10 years, himmel died 50 years after that and this is 30 years after his death. Fucken Fieren is at least 1500 years old. She has only been training her mana suppression for 1000 plus. No wonder the demon race focused on wiping the elven race out 1200 years ago. Fieren even said the last time she ever met another elf was over 400 years ago and that girl is constantly traveling. Unless that other elf was also female, then Fieren had a damn duty to smash 1-2 kids out!
Having the flashbacks looking Grecco-Roman was a nifty way of illustrating that it was a thousand years ago, clothes and architecture have changed since then.
The mana reveal scene and her telling aura to kys was the scene i was talking about before. I still think thats the best scene of the entire series. Its so cool and cold. It was instant goosebumps when i saw how ot was adapted.
There's also a poetic justice and irony in the writing there, Aura is known as "the Guillotine" for mind-controlling and decapitating all those knights that she made into her army, then Frieren got Aura the Guillotine to decapitate herself.
Nah, for her it's just normal, the first episode confirms this as for her 50 years is nothing. The same when they have to wait for ten years in a town to advance. For her it's just a long blink while for Fern it's a large portion of her life.

@@alexsjarif nah, there's no evidence she is close to 2000. When you're that close, you will usually refer to yourself to near 2000. Not over 1000. If 1000 is most of her life, than 1900 is not logical.
@@alexsjarif if she already live 900 years before meeting Flamme, she wouldn't be that weak. Since according to Flamme, Frieren has TALENT, she not just strong because she live long.
If you thought the first 5 episodes of Frieren were boring, then you honestly just don't like anime like that. You like whatever is trending, but don't LIKE anime. Because, that was peak anime story-telling.
