Sara Bareilles performs She Used To Be Mine from Waitress the Musical ahead of her starring run at the Adelphi Theatre in London from 27 Jan to 7 March 2020 live on Graham Norton. www.waitresswiki.org
In a world of wispy voiced teens, voices corrected by auto-tune and those wishing they had talent, this woman stands on top of the mountain. Every tone is pure, every word is heard clearly. The song is a revelation, and her performance here, just a master class of emotional singing. Magnificent. Brilliant.
Trixie Calinawan > I’ve seen this argument a thousand times before but it is what it is. At best, that’s presumptuous. You would never hear Sara Bareilles whine and say anything like that.
True although don't forget The Color Purple was out again that year as well. It was stunning. Cynthia Erivo won Best Actress in a musical over Phillipa Soo.
Madeline Mantiss how can you tell she din’t whine? Were you there in the deepest night listening to her sob at least once? Sara deserves the world. The Waitress was at the wrong place at the wrong time. But it was still excellent. Again, she wouldn’t whine in your face and in live TV but you know.
@@blackclavish Maybe she doesn't even care about the awards but we, as fans, want her to have everything in this world because she deserves it and the soundtrack is unbelievably gorgeous. So Trixie's comment is totally valid
I'm frequently blown away by the quality of staging The Graham Norton Show puts into a few minutes of precious performance. This was an absolute privilege.
The screen quality? The stage set-up? These are not the things that made this moment artistic. It was all about how she meant the words. She is a true storyteller.
She must have performed this song thousands of times, and yet she sings it with the emotion, passion and commitment as if it were the first. I've lost count of the times I've listened to it. Stunning.
One minute I’m sitting there laughing at the show and then suddenly I’m wiping away the tears - only the great can make that happen so easily, you’re wonderful Sarah.
The way she changed it up and took the final SHE IS LONELY MOST OF THE TIME down and so quiet hits so different, so much more sad, hits just a lil deeper!
At the age of 70 I can sincerely say that a huge highlight of my life was seeing Sara Bareilles in concert last year with my twin granddaughters and son. Sara is not only amazingly talented but also humble and kind and genuine. ❤️
You should check out her other stuff, shes an amazing writer! Check out “manhatten” and “gravity” (thats the one they always cover in the talent shows.
This is of course a very moving performance, but I think the fancam of her performing it at Berkeley is even better than this one. It seemed like her voice wasn't 100% during this performance. Again, not to say this still wasn't phenomenal. She is still one of the most talented (if not the most) singer-songwriters of our time.
My jaw literally dropped as I watched this and I sat there transfixed. Just stunning. One of the best live solo performances I've seen anywhere in a very long time.
Give here multiple grammys. Her talent deserves it all! But who cares about the grammy? Sara is authentic and a talented vocalist and she doesn’t need it.
I'd be honored if some Sara B fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal cover performance of LOVE SONG on my YT channel in tribute to Little Voice, which stands as one of the greatest albums of the '00s decade. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Peace and stay safe.
Stunning performance, my gosh Sidenote, I love how RDJ was waiting for her to acknowledge him to shake her hand and she just waved at him hahaha iconic
Can you imagine what it would be like to do ANYTHING that spectacular in life? Something that everyone just stops and pays attention to because it's so hypnotic in it's brilliance. It's just a song that eats at your soul for how sad and lonely it is.
Sara is obviously extremely talented as a singer songwriter but I personally can't give enough props for her performance in the waitress musical. Musical theatre is still very difficult and extremely technical, but she nailed it despite it being her first theatre role! I saw her here in London a few weeks ago and fell in love ❤️.
Ran across SARA a couple years after discovering another Sara, then Two .... Then a Irish gal with similar great talent .... Composing, singing and playing music so extraordinarily well IT NAILS YOU WHEN YOU FIRST HEAR A BAR ..... Sara herein - is sensational talent with all the tools .... but, her VOCAL RANGE, VIBRATO, POWER & RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NOTE INTONATION ..... is shear magic. Sara Jarozs is also a diversely skilled musician and singer / songwriter - Love these folks !!!
I’ve been a hardcore fan since around 2008, and I can’t recall ever seeing a live performance quite this emotional. Amazing as always, but this one hits different for me. I’m so glad she’s getting more recognition, she’s absolutely one of the best singer songwriters alive.
Okay seriously when she hit that note most of time at the 1:07 mark, how she simply sang the word time is timeless like no one on this earth has even a fraction of the pure raw talent that you do and I’m simply amazing and bewildered by everything you’ve brought into this world. Okay life is full of twists and turns, good and bad, right and wrong but the point of the game is to keep on playing but with love, compassion and understanding..
The chit chat following her performance seems to almost trivialize the significance of her talent. Sara is such an amazing vocalist it almost seems silly for her to sit and chat with mere mortals after she has graced us with her beauty and talent. She is beyond amazing.
@@RandomPlayIist obviously, if you have the capacity to grasp it, this is hyperbole. But I look forward to seeing your performance demonstrating your talents... unless you just talk, in which case please spare me.
I got to hear her sing this whole song live and it was just captivating. Like she was putting us all in a trance or something. She’s hands down one the most talented artists alive right now.
Sara does seem to get better every time I see these videos. I’ve seen the musical several times. I was so taken by the lyrics, the plot, the levity and seriousness all rolled into a wonderful 2 hours. I also got the chance to see her in concert , and she was even better live. Her talent can’t be captured on tape or video....she’s amazing! I definitely recommend seeing the show if you can-its a once in a lifetime experience. 💜
the musical is not running anymore unfortunately...

Saw her in London. She's absolutely magical. Never experienced anything like it before. When she started singing this solo during the musical, everything just disappeared. So grateful I got to be there
OMG what a stunning performance!!! No matter how many times I hear this song, it always manages to bring tears in my eyes. Also the fact that two of my role models sat side by side (Sara and Emma Thompson) really made my day!!
I was skeptical when i heard they are making a broadway version of the Waitress then went all the way to being giddy when they announced Sarah will be writing the songs. I mean she is amazing.
It's not simple to say That most days I don't recognize me That these shoes and this apron That place and its patrons Have taken more than I gave them It's not easy to know I'm not anything like I used be, although it's true I was never attention's sweet center I still remember that girl She's imperfect, but she tries She is good, but she lies She is hard on herself She is broken and won't ask for help She is messy, but she's kind She is lonely most of the time She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie She is gone, but she used to be mine It's not what I asked for Sometimes life just slips in through a back door And carves out a person and makes you believe it's all true And now I've got you And you're not what I asked for If I'm honest, I know I would give it all back For a chance to start over and rewrite an ending or two For the girl that I knew Who'll be reckless, just enough Who'll get hurt, but who learns how to toughen up When she's bruised and gets used by a man who can't love And then she'll get stuck And be scared of the life that's inside her Growing stronger each day 'til it finally reminds her To fight just a little, to bring back the fire in her eyes That's been gone, but used to be mine Used to be mine She is messy, but she's kind She is lonely most of the time She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie She is gone, but she used to be mine
What I love about this song - Sara wrote it in such a way that each Jenna can entirely make it their own for their range & style. Everyone sings it differently & every version is beautiful ❤️
Matthew Randell I got to see her live in concert last fall. She’s unbelievable in concert. After singing SUTBM, first you could hear a pin drop then a huge standing O. Really, she can’t be captured on cd. She’s that good. ♥️
If you liked this please go check out the full version, the lyrics have been cut down here for time. It is an absolutely mesmerizing song, and even more meaningful when hear the full thing
Soooo, all of a sudden I get to the "this gives me goosebumps all over"section of RU-vid? Never heard of this musical, or her. This voice though. This voice is the definition of beauty
