OK I don’t understand you have a workshop. Why are you building a a shed instead of working on the boat? The page is called ship happens 😮not shed . I do understand that you have to have some place to put things for the boat but come on we want to see the progress of the boat, please. I don’t wait all week to watch you build a backyard shed
@ShipHappensUK

These videos don’t effect our weekly Sarinda videos, currently our workshop costs us £1200 per month, and as we are putting everything into Sarinda, we financially can not afford the workshop any longer, but if we haven’t got the workshop, we’re are we going to do all the stuff like processing wood and storing all the things we need for Sarinda? So by building a shed at home as our workshop space we will be able to reduce our overheads and put more money into Sarinda, so I hope you can understand we are doing this for the boat build and we would love to have your support on this project,

If you have watched the Ship Happens videos from the start you'd know Simon And Gemma ALWAYS have a purpose in mind. And if you are a hands on person, as I am, then you would take pleasure in watching two outstanding craftpeople at work. So maybe hold back with snarky comments. And BTW, you didn't wait all week to see this - work on Sarinda is put up every Friday!

Not sure what it like in the UK, but in the U.S., the handle of a paint roller has the same thread as the handle of a push broom or a mop. You can unscrew the handle from your broom and screw that into the paint roller.

We have them in Australia too, and wouldn't you know it, there are two different thread sizes! I have a brilliant Italian boat brush but cannot get a matching threaded pole for it, but swimming pool poles do fit one kind of brush and rollers too.

Looking good. If you move everything to around the inside edge you can put the pool back up.😄 I'm just curious as to why you didn't use coated metal cladding on the walls. They would would be maintance free. I understand matching the original shed, but the cladding is relatively cheap compared to ply, at least for the back wall where you cant reach easily. But then Gemma wouldn't have anything to paint🤔. Leave tightening those anchors as long as you can. They're very close to the edge of the slab and you dont want them blowing out a chunk of concrete

Not much use now of course, but to avoid stress when bolting down a base plate I get an ordinary 10mm galvanised bolt with two nuts. Drill the base plate to miss the uprights and insert the bolt - one nut above, one below leaving the bolt head about 3" proud. When the concrete is poured I turn the plate over and settle the head into it. When cured I unscrew the top nut and lift off the plate. Build the wall as you did then just lift and drop onto the studs sticking up. That way avoids the risk of blowing the weak side off when using an expanding bolt.

Great in winter and summer and zero maintenance. Glad to see you both doing it yourself, so many skills that are imparted in the video for the next generation to learn. Nothing is impossible, just to go ahead and give it a try, you may be pleasantly surprised.

I am sure the shed is finished by now, but you might have wanted to overlap the sheeting on the bottom of the framing by a couple of inches. That way when you stand it up, the sheeting goes down the side of the pad, protecting that joint between the bottom of the wall and the pad from getting weather into it and under the wall. The seal you put on it will probably help, but if you overlapped it, rain would not be able to get under the wall.

having just built a similar shed i can say well done, mine used 9mm OSB3 at £12 a sheet for the cladding, and then I used 2 thicknesses for the roof, the best cost saving thing I did was to use treated 75x42mm carcassing from a local timber merchant for all the structural bits, tied together by the OSB. I am happy with the final product achieved, and am sure you will be too. i insulated my walls with the reflective bubble wrap stuff, and then used pine cladding inside, and currently its maintaining a good 4-5 degrees C warmer inside than out, I also used 3 old double glazed window glasses i had lying around for windows.

I was hoping you guys would have installed a sliding barn door (wheels on a track). That way you'd have at least 3/4 of a walls worth of opening for those really large projects, oh well. Love the 'barn look' view from the house, very western. Do you have to obtain a building permit to build the shed? Here in the US the 'government makes you obtain a permit for everything, that way they can tax you on what you've built. Really, crappy government over-reach. Anyway, it's all look great. It's still best to use imperial measurements when working with timber. Despite the sizes they sell it by, it's all milled to imperial and sold in multiples of 4 feet, 4.8m is 16 feet. A sheet of ply isn't made to 1220 x 2440mm it's 4' x 8' and converted to metric measurements to keep the government happy.

Concrete will never fully cure; it continually hardens forever, although for all practical purposes, it reaches a point where further hardening will be so slow as to unnoticeable. Unless the mix has retarder (or some cement replacement material) in it, it will generally be hard enough to walk on in less than 24 hours.

There definitely would have been an accident if we tried to lift it as 1! The rainwater made it so much more heavier!

Those trees are going to grow into the shed within a year. They appear to be a variety of pine which is very fast growing and with a top soil root system. Foundation will be destroyed within a couple of years. Sorry to be a bummer but you may want to remove all foliage from the 2 back sides.
